Great review of a great cologne and my all time favourite. I wore this when it first came out and then moved onto other fragrances, mostly by Dior but I always had a bottle of Jules in my dresser. It became harder to get hold of and i eventually ran out. I came across it again about 10-12 years ago in France (either in Marionaud or Douglas) and promptly bought the two bottles they had in stock; most places i have found it only ever have one bottle. Every time I go to France I buy a bottle. It is now very expensive (i bought a bottle in Cannes last summer (2107) and I think I paid €98); Marionnaud often do it cheaper if you can find it and cheaper still if you have one of their loyalty cards. I am yet to find this in any department store or perfumery in London.
Wonderful review. I'm 33 and this is my favourite frag. I don´t wear it so often bevcause it is so hard to get. I wouldn´t say it is dated. It really grabs peoples attention. It makes you stand out from the crowd. It is pure Christian Dior, more than just Dior. As you say it smells terrific. Happy New Year
Miguel, I totally agree with everything you wrote and I am happy to see that young people are enjoying this beauty as well!!! Cheers and a Blessed 2017 to you!!
Hey Chris! I scored myself a bottle of the 2016 version here in Australia. All i have to say that it is just an amazing fragrance! Just perfect in so many ways. The perfect fragrance for a man who has his $hit together. Thank you for putting me onto this.
This one reminds me of a more floral take on the vintage Guerlain Derby, and I love both! I need to get a bottle of this one still to complete the duo in my collection. Great short and sweet review!
Thanks for bringing a new and fresh perspective to RU-vid fragrance reviews. I really like hearing about the vintage fragrances that you have brought awareness to
Chris, I believe it was always available on the French Dior site.. I had the original back in the eighties, then the version before the actual one in another bottle.. The latest version is not so intens as the former one, lacks a bit warmth and is fresher.. thanks for the nice comment on Jules :)
Last year Christian Dior re-released Jules but made it only available in Paris. The bottle you have is from 2015, the vintage formulation from the 1980s smells very different, which is understandable i suppose due to all the current regulations etc etc
I've managed to buy a bottle of the exact version that your showing in this video Chris, purchased from Greggieboy76 (RU-vid channel). wow! it didn't disappoint, bought blind based on your review, loving it!! keep up the good work. Looking into possibly buying Hermes Bellami,or Fendi Uomo, possibly Iquitos, all reviewed by you.
+Pine Rocks Yes, thats true. I visited these graves as well as Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Edit Piaf and unfortunately seen a grave of one of the very young victims of the Bataclan attack of last November. Cemeteries can be sad and tough but also peaceful, calm and spiritually uplifting.
I just got a bottle from an online etailer. It didn't smell as I expected. Or maybe my expectation was off. It couldn't have turned because the batch code indicates it was produced in November 2016. l'll give it a couple more wearings ( but not to the office) then decide how it goes with me.
Hello Chris, great video! Question: I own Antaeus, Pour Monsieur and Kouros. Does Jules smell similar to any of this. If not, which other scent comes close to it. Thank you!
I ordered Dune from the website and they sent me Jules. I daren't open it as I've never smelled it. I think I'm the only guy in uk that has a bottle. What shall I do?
Hmmm, good question. I adore Jules. I love Jules. But its nothing like what you initially ordered (Dune). Jules is a classy leather/flowery composition with a time less touch to it. If I would be in the UK I would offer to buy it from you but I am in mainland Europe so that doesnt work due to the strict shipping regulation in regards to perfumes. Jules has been reintroduced to the market i Paris (and Russia) this year. Did you order from the Dior site directly?
Well the story goes like this. I bought hypnotic poison and found the strength really poor and nothing like I had tested in store so I asked to return it. The store said no but gave me the Dior customer number. They said I had to post it to them where they would test it and if they found it defective in any way they would replace it. So a month later and they hadn't tested it they said I could choose a replacement so I said Dune. The package arrived and my heart sank, after all this phoning and posting they still got it wrong. I won't bother sending it back so I will hang onto it
Awesome. Same guy who did paco rabanne pour homme. I bought a bunch of azzaro pour homme but now I'm wishing I got paco pour homme because the Azzaro is too spicy not soapy enough
Loved the review and background...but how is a cemetery an uplifting setting? LOL! I'ved looked at this one once or twice over the years. I just looked at the notes pyramid and it is very similar to a couple of my fragrances from that time period. Does Jules smells similar to anything else you've tried?
+Jim R I guess the spirit of eternity makes this place somehow special! When you smell Jules you get reminded of the style of that decade and its various fragrances but nothing compares to Jules its just taking it to another level. The vibe is maybe somewhere between Bel Ami and Equipage...
Gotcha! I've tried both Equipage and Bel Ami (reformulation) and, while both nice, they really weren't what I was looking for. Instead, I purchased a bottle of Bel Ami Vetiver and love, love, love it. Regardless, I'll have to put my nose on this one.
I'm owning an 9ml miniature bottle. Damn, this scent...is...wow...alpha masculinity in a bottle ! But I have the original one (brown and shape like a vase), you Chris own the reformulated one with spray! :-P
