On Saturday, November 7th, 2020, Julia Chanourdie became the third woman in the 9b (5.15b)!
Discover Julia's incredible story of becoming the third woman to climb 9b.
A journey thought the extreme difficulty and intensity to climb such a hard route. As well as the mental challenge that it takes.
Julia tells you everything!
The route "Eagle 4", 9b is situated in Saint Léger du Ventoux (France).
Before her, this route has only been climbed twice by Adam Ondra and Hugo Parmentier.

funfact about the name of the route : eagle-4 is pronounced in French : "il gueule fort" which means "he shouts loudly"

This is such a well put together vid. Had to rewatch that drone shot at the beginning since it was so epic. No music for the majority of the climb - just a pure, clean, climbing performance. Way to go Petzl production team. One of my favorite climbing vids of the year 👌

I think Laura Rogora's "Ali Hulk..." 9b, Julia Chanourdie's "Eagle-4" 9b and Angela Eiter's "Madam Ching" 9b(?) are the best female climbing performance of the year. All three girls are super strong!

@@goldenoctober You're forgetting Angelia Eiter, who certainly does not look like a child and has climbed well-confirmed 9b and suggested the grade for a recent FA as well. I do not care to speculate about the weight of people I do not know the actual weight of (just looking only gets you so far).

@@IsuckYoungBlood yes but if you look at la sportiva athletes it's over 90% Miuras and Solutions for hard sport climbing. And in a more general sense almost nobody uses such a stiff and unagressive shoe for hard sport climbing, that's why it's interesting

I think this send vid would have inspired me by sound alone. Listening to her breathing during the send allowed me to relate to the effort she was expending (especially during the traverse). I may not be a 9b climber, but I sure know the feeling of trying to get in a quick gasp of air while maintaining body tension. JC is a humble badass. Keep sending the burly stuff + leaving the spectators pumped.

9b? En los años 90 no existía tal grado, lo máximo era 8c+ que pocos hombres conseguían. Las rocas siguen siendo las mismas. En los 90 para escalar un 8c+ solo lo hacían los más grandes, tipo Beat Kammerlander etc. Y ahora resulta que una chica escala un 9b?. Es curioso.
