If anyone is wondering, she had a lot of pots. Her most used ones, the ones she used and collected for over 45 years, are now at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

I was in the store in Paris where Julia bought her kitchen tools. Amazing store. They have her photo on the wall.

That's the value of a set of this quality with no provenance. I would pay $5k+ for this in a heartbeat!

My thoughts exactly. I was waiting for a $50k+ valuation

Exactly...even with out Julia's name on it...copper based cookware like this is a fortune. You can just tell by her reaction she knew this guy had NO idea wtf he was talking about.

A very good set would not cost you that much. Figure around 500$ a piece, new. Second hand, would be about half that.

@@fastnbulbouss vintage can be worth than new. as mentioned earlier that is without factoring in provenance.

It worth only 2k at best, I don't give a crap who owned them! I been buying French copper ware for over 40 years.

I would never sell something like that. I am a huge fan of Julia's and would be thrilled to have anything of hers. Even something as small as one of her rubber stamps, never mind something and beautiful and expensive as these pots and pans.

I wouldn't sell them either.....but I'd be using them because that's what they're intended for.

there has got to be a mistake, if she really owned this pots then they would be worth way more than 5 grand....a good cooper pot by itself cost several hundred dollars....

Totally agree, this was a horrible appraisal.

That Appraisal is completely wrong we are talking about Julia Childs and a literal piece of history

I think get saucier on the right is actually silver plated! The others would be tin plated.
@fastnbulbouss
@fastnbulbouss Год назад
You don't cook in silver, the inside is lined with tin. If it seems to be shinnier it's because it wasn't used a lot after being retinned.

@@fastnbulbouss You can absolutely cook in silver lined copper. It's available now, as it was then.

If these 5 copper pots were really worth what is indicated in this video, I will sell every day like that! This value is only because they belonged to JULIA CHILD and in this case I can understand that the price. It's a part of the culinary history that is worth much more!
@eltonlouiewolf-wilson8345
@eltonlouiewolf-wilson8345 4 года назад
This was probably a very low appraisal. In the right setting and right bidders, this set is worth anywhere from 3x to 10x that appraisal!]
@dinocub1
@dinocub1 Год назад
Julia most likely got these from her favorite cookware store in Paris. E. Dehillerin. If you go there today, they don't even list the prices on their wares. If you have to ask, you can't afford. $5K for this set is a steal even without Julia's name referenced. Fire this appraiser, he obviously has know idea what he's talking about.
@tjfrance
@tjfrance Год назад
@@dinocub1 The best copper pots in the world, today, are neither at Dehillerin, nor at Mauviel or nowhere else in the world in a store. They are in cellars, granaries, forgotten and sad. They are in large kitchens like the Elysée, in large kitchens of renowned restaurants. In small passionate individual kitchens who have taken the time to seek copper pots of their dreams for years. No department stores or large manufacturers, nowadays, will offer you the equivalent of what was offered in 1900. To own such equipment, you have to look, long and patiently. If we were in the 1950s and worse, the 1960s, the situation would be similar. Obviously, certain current pots (after the Second World War at the present day) are of very good quality, but those before, a long time ago, were exceptional, magical, magnificent.

The value seems pretty low for such a culinary pioneer. I wonder if it had been a man would the price be any different? She's an absolute legend and if she really used those pans, surely they would be worth more than that?
@deanreevesii

Provenance? It's a nice story but I'd want to see a receipt or a letter from Julia Childs indicating that she actually owned these.
