Nighty Night is forever my ultimate dark comedy, its my favourite tv show of all time. Second is Human Remains. Julia can do no wrong in my eyes!! genius woman!
My two favourite types of comedy are surrealist humour and dark humour - but I don't find depicting domestic abuse to be funny dark comedy - it's too real to be funny. At some point it just becomes a depiction rather than humour.
Can understand that. In the Vice article linked in the description, Davis herself recalls a fan saying something similar regarding Lizzie and Sarah: "But I remember meeting this guy who said he liked it, but he said: 'it's basically a study in domestic violence, isn't it?' I thought - Oh God, maybe it is" Personally, I did find some parts - the suffocation scenes in particular - simply too upsetting to find funny.
