@@fredforsythe8310 People power is what will defund the BBC. We can get 99% of live TV on catch up and streaming almost immediately after it is broadcast. I can t understand why the BBC demands a licence fee from us for watching live tv from Sky ( and other broadcasters) when the content has nothing to do with the BBC. That is like paying Tesco to shop at Asda !!
Jonathan Wilson I'm on your side Jonathan, if the BBC goes self funded, adverts as they do already with UKTV etc. We have a choice then and if they squander the income they can go to the wall...
Steve Wright in the afternoon on bbc radio 2 get rid, third highest paid in the bbc, he just isn’t funny anymore. Jeremy vine left wing propaganda show on bbc radio 2 get rid can’t stand the patronising prick.
The government will never get around to defunding the BBC. We have to do it ourselves; cancel your licence fee. I did six months ago and wish I had done it earlier.
aucourant Quite right and you can bet that’s exactly what the government are hoping will happen Anyone who doesn’t want to pay should just cancel their licence, it’s easy and there’s nothing to fear I haven’t bought a licence for 10 years
Schuey, Nope...few letters over the years that I’ve used to butter my toast on..They might knock once every couple of years but i look out the window before opening the door any way, if I don’t know who it is I don’t answer..It’s not like I’m going to win a big cheque or anything lol.
@@FightCollective Roughly nine years here. Still get the letters mythering. They go straight in the recycling bin. Dunno if I've had a visit. I didn't answer if so. Though If I do answer to one, he'll be less than delighted when he gets the thick end of my tongue. But it is best to ignore them entirely. If you do inadvertently newer the door, simply politely say not today thank's, and shut the door firmly if thier face. They have no powers, and it is still I believe a civil matter. Unless they can claim some kind of threat, the police can't, or certainly shouldn't be involved at all. To be candid, I find it incredible that any intelligent, rational, educated adult can sit watching the banal, vacuous, stultifying, intelligence insulting, biased dross and cack that comprises the vast majority of programming for the past decade or more. Unless one was into sport/s. That is really the only argument I see as remotely reasonable. Though I'm not into anything but a few Motorsports myself. It is time the Beeb was left to fund itself and stand on it's own. Likely to die out soon after.
@Phil Exactly, so why the fuck should he pay for it? You like the BBC? Great have at it, you can pay for it. I'm quite partial to the writings of Carl Jung should I force you to pay for my audiobooks? If not why not?
I haven't paid the licence fee for over 5 years. I don't watch the BBC. I will never support them again. Hopefully, more and more people will do this. Just stop watching TV. It's all crap anyway.
I agree. However my husband loves to watch sport. Have tried to watch BBC but am dismayed to find everything is repeated, not once, but three/four times. The BBC used to be held in such reference years ago. Now it is a load of left-wing propaganda, in my opinion. I rejoice in the fact that I receive just over seventy pounds weekly in pension, savings gone years ago. If I do have any spare money ( 😀😀), I buy a book/audible. Fed up with this stupid world in many ways-----a cantankerous old woman!
These people just do not get it. This is not a TV license but a BBC funding tax. If people want to watch the BBC they should subscribe to it. I subscribe to Sky and Netflix and should I ask BBC supporters who do not have these to pay another fee to Sky and Netflix to subsidise me? No! If you want to watch it then you pay for it.
I'm waiting for this woman to ask the most fundamental question that is what makes the BBC see so special why is the BBC so fundamental and what gives the BBC the right to demand a fee from people that don't even use their product why have they got such a broad licence to act in this way
@@47nrubreddew The trouble is that the most recent charter took effect on 1 January 2017 and will run until 31 December 2027. That's another 7 years of the awful BBC. Unless the government can find a way to revoke the charter, we're stuck with it until 2027.
If they (the BBC) think it's acceptable to pay a football pundit £140,000 A MONTH !!!!! to read an autocue once a week then I think it's quite acceptable not to give the BBC one penny .
How does the over 75's cost the BBC extra to broadcast to them? what do the transmitters need extra power to broadcast? or do re runs cost extra to broadcast to over 75's? please explain what this extra cost is.
Stormcrow it’s cos thousands have stopped paying their licence fee and they are losing g around £70million a year so they need to get some back, it should be a subscription fee like Netflix and sky! They won’t do it as they say it’s too expensive to charge over, this licence tax came about when there were limited channels over 60 years ago, times have changed in this 21st century, BBC get with the times
I forgot a key point. When the BBC is defunded it needs to be sold off and the money refunded to the taxpayers. We own all of the assets including the historical and current content plus the laughable goodwill of the valuable name. This name must be changed as it purports to be “British” and representative of our nation which it is definitely not. Alternatively it becomes licensed by the government to the operator and Content controlled by a non political Management team
Let's go one step further. Why should the BBC have the exclusive licence to broadcast on those frequencies, take away their broadcasting licence and put it on the open market.
Got rid of my license two years ago. Haven’t watched it since- I’m happier and fitter than ever. I had no idea just how much the bbc had, like a cancer, soaked into my being. I don’t miss any tv channel at all.
fyi, If the scroungers come knocking, it's not just the BBC channels the licence fee covers. If they "find evidence" you've watch any terrestrial TV channel, radio or any of the BBC's online services they'll accusing you of using their services without paying the bill and try to fine you. Best practice is, don't let them in, don't allow them to see into your household, as they will use any excuse.
I nearly fell off my chair the other day when the BBC news page had an article about Newquay in Cornwall. It was almost the last paragraph before they jammed in a ethnic minority reference.
12:17 What a cheeky git. He spoke over Julie determined to stop her form making her point and then 15 secs later has the gall to accuse her of interrupting as she attempts to get a very reasonable question in. The guy is an ideologue and will blindly defend. edit: the to she
It's not 'a tax for having a TV' as Julia said. It's a tax for watching or recording live TV broadcasts. You can have a TV in your house and still be exempt from the TV Licence.
They’re basically a British version of CNN at this point. The fact you have to pay THEM to watch any live broadcast even if it isn’t BBC is completely unjustified.
Bin your licence, get rid of your aerial and watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and RU-vid instead. Watch what you want to watch when you want to watch it and without the PC preaching.
All the TV transmission by TV mast should end it's a huge waste of resources all send up to the satellites, job done terrestrial broadcast television is totally obsolete BBC commercial or bust, no tax or licence fee money should go to the BBC and the licence.
Decriminalisation would have the effect of a referendum. The results would clearly demonstrate the actual desirability and appreciation for the current BBC funding model.
This is why we need the right of consent in law. People can then decide for most parts of the state, if they want it, will pay for it, think its value for money. That sends back a clear message on policy to MPs as to what people think. You would quickly discover that lots of people don't want the BBC. Of course that comes with a consequence, which is they don't get to watch the BBC. If you don't pay, you don't get.
Decriminalisation just means that the government will not prosecute you not that the BBC can not do so you will still officially have to pay the licence fee
£352,485,000 lost revenue 2,238,000 ditched the TV licence from 2016 to 2019 798,000 in 2016/17, 860,000 in 2017/18 and 580,000 in 2018/19 How many will there be for 2019/20
I think this year is going to see a huge increase in numbers leaving. They doubled down on their Left-wing propaganda in response to complaints about their bias, and this has made them even more intolerable to many viewers. It's a vicious circle. People are genuinely really angry to the point of rage.
@@aucourant9998 Agreed, I can no longer rely on the BBC reporting news accurately. It was reported by the BBC that at a blm protest in London A mounted officer knocked herself of her horse which then stampeded into the crowd injuring a protester. A report from Sky news on the same incident explained that missiles including a bicycle were thrown at a mounted officer knocking her of her horse, both the officer and a nearby protester were injured. "She knocked herself of her horse" How is that even possible
Profligate organisation, spending public money without due diligence & such waste. Could easily cut costs. Personally dont watch live TV so why pay for a license for something not using, that goes for radio as well. We pay for other services like Prime & Netflix even Sky, so why paying for what is not being used!
If it is to stay, get rid of all the ridiculous channels such as BBC Persian, BBC Japan, BBC Food and the rest of the garbage no person living in the UK watches. Why do we have to pay for this tripe around the world? It should be BB1 and BB2, that’s it. And make them completely impartial not the current Marxist mouth piece it is. Trim the fat. Don’t get me started on the radio stations.
So the settlement of £157.50 included the over 75's money to be paid in the License Fee by every License fee contributor. If the over 75's are to be denied the facility, the License Fee needs to be reduced accordingly. The BBC are the highest paid TV organisation in the world with a £4 BILLION plus income, the BBC are completely insane!!
Quality programming ????? it's mostly repeats, and they have to find 125 million of savings, then don't spend 100 million on diversity which isn't needed.
This whole thing is an absolute joke julia. Where is the mention of the amount of money the bbc pays it's overpaid presenters, staff etc. Not one of the interviewees was against the means test proposal. The bias that is push constantly in our faces. just under 600.000 people have cancelled their licence fee in 2019 alone plus recently two MP's. I don't watch any BBC programs and yet I have to pay for it!
Let’s have an end to this ridiculous endless discussion and abolish the licence fee altogether - or better yet, get rid of the BBC itself!! They have proved themselves to be a waste of space. If they must continue, let’s have them run on a subscription basis like Netflix. Keep up the good work, Julia! You don’t let them get away with anything! Love the way you put that guy in his place.
How about stopping spending millions on wall to wall coverage of Glastonbury and sending thousands of staff to do it? It is literally incredible how much they spend on this utter shite every year..
I will never pay a TV licence. I do not watch Terrestrial Television at all, nor listen to Radio, nor use their Web or any other Services. Anything produced by the BBC that I watch is paid for directly via a direct purchase service. In fact I do not even have a working TV, or radio.
Why don't the BBC means test for under 75's? The BBC has reported on how awful it is we have families on food banks so they KNOW there are families struggling so why don't the means test those families and others? They won't because they want the gravy train to run for ever.
I still love watching the BBC reruns of the Brexit vote night on RU-vid watching their faces as they realised that they did not run the country was priceless
The Labour government at the time should of made the over 75 year olds exempt at the time from the license, the licence should be abolished and the BBC should be slim down, the trustees where totally incompetent to make it get this big and so where the governments, which order should have been framed that they only had one TV station. The BBC's commercial interests make a big enough station for the BBC there's enough stuff no one's going to miss it when it goes.
We shouldn't be forced to pay a license fee if we don't want to watch BBC. Scrap the licence fee altogether - make BBC an optional subscription service like Netflix and see how it does in the real world.
Minister for the BBC now that's a joke. I did not realize there was a minister!! If so a labour minister that you cannot remove? Now we are getting somewhere
