Ok...where to start? First off, I have to say that I'm sorry for not posting in quite a while. I still have some more material from previous concerts to go through and post and I will attempt to make some time to do so as soon as I can. I've been pretty busy with real life stuff, trying to catch up on other hobbies and have been a bit burnt out lately. There are also issues with audio for many recordings, or trying to make video better that I spent a lot of time on and ultimately gave up on because I don't have the ability to fix and unfortunately because they are phone recordings and not on professional equipment, I'm afraid are probably not salvageable by anyone.
Now for the amazing, talented, inspirational, joyous, energetic, Julia Michaels. I was fortunate enough to get to meet and take a selfie with her before the concert and the first thing I have to say is...WHAT A SWEETIE! I was extremely nervous, as I always am when meeting anyone, not because of their fame or anything, but because of my extreme anxiety when it comes to people in general. Most times when I meet artists, I have something I've been wanting to say, and then ultimately clam up and just say hello when meeting them because I have a hard time bringing myself to speak. She was extremely generous and giving of herself right away, giving me a hug and asking me my name, which forced me to speak and ultimately made me engage in a conversation. After that we actually spoke for a few minutes, as I told her I had seen her open for P!nk both nights in Vancouver and showed her a still I had taken from a video that night of her with her band. We talked about how incredible we both thought P!nk was and then I mentioned to her about how during the M&G with Bebe Rexha last month, she had done FaceTime with Justin Tranter and introduced him to us, and us to him. It was very kind of her to engage the way she did and after taking a selfie, (which is the one thing I CANNOT do and wish I had asked her to take it instead because I'm sure she would have done a MUCH better job,) she gave me a second hug, which was super sweet and told me she would see me later during the concert, which leads into the fact that what she said would be relevant during the concert...
Overall, the concert was fantastic! She had surprises, a surprise guest to do something for the first time, she went into the crowd to sing a few songs, which would have been incredible for the people around her, and the exuberance of joy and happiness and fun radiating from her was just mesmerizing and infectious. If it was only possible to bottle a little bit of that, I think it could fuel the world. However, getting back to the point of what she said to me during the M&G, there were a number of very cool things she did that made the night somehow even more special. Throughout the concert, she would quite often look over at me. This in itself is always nice and makes you feel more of a connection, but because she obviously knew I was basically recording the entire show, there were a few times when she winked at me. She also actually came towards my phone at one point while singing, as if to sing right into it. Unfortunately, I was not prepared for this, so it didn't turn out perfectly, although it is still quite evident of what her intention was. And most importantly of all, at one point she kissed her hand with the "love you" tattoo and waved at me! These are the moments and connections that great artists understand can hold meaning for a lifetime, and honestly one of the main reasons I started recording concerts in the first place, because although not everyone can experience that first-hand and I know recordings aren't the same as actually being there, hopefully other people will still get a sense of that connection and it will brighten their day.
