As a previously competitive Irish dancer, I just want to say: you have to show dominance on stage. You have to push your way to the front. But there’s a difference between making sure you’re seen and dancing on top of another dancer. You have to understand, that if one of those dancers had turned or moved a second sooner they would have gotten kicked, and it would be up to judges to rule it as whether or not it was due to aggressive dancing. Be conscientious and courteous of each other, it’s not worth anyone getting injured just so that you’re more in the front than they are.
After this dance she met my daughter and she is a delightful human being. Julia is so polite and took time to have a photo even tho she was still puffing from this dance.
Tyler Hoeseph I get that, I really do. I'm an Irish dancer too - just felt like she took the mick a little bit. Given that she's a renowned dancer as it is, she knows the judges are going to be looking at her regardless. If anything, it's the other dancers who should be doing it to her!
Phillip Langrish as I've said, I get why she does it. But because she is a former champ/the status that she has, she doesn't need to go too over the top. Prime example being at 1:10.
As an Irish dancer myself, you want to move to the front and make the judges look at you (that is also in how you dance) but you never want to be aggressive because that can lose you marks.
i’m personally a dancer, and i know from experience you have to travel and come to the front, which often results into cutting off other dancers. this makes sense, because instead of showing the judges you have the ability to win, you must show them you already have won, and cutting dancers off is just part of this. but i noticed that she was running into dancers even when she was going behind them. not a good look...
i know as soon as I saw her dance again I can really see she's a championship plus she is a really nice girl I haven't met her but I've seen her up close xx😁
Hmm...her choreography is genius. I love her I think she was aggressive, is that a bad thing. At qualifiers one year my daughter was literally bumped off the stage. That's as bad as it gets and she placed very high. What I notice is Julia's choreography is smart, while the other girls are spending Their energy Julia is right up front.
Maybe an amazing dancer, but disgusted by her manners on stage, especially from a World champion. Her teachers need to instill some stage etiquette. She should have been placed much lower for barging into other dancers. Hopefully CLRG will take action on this intimidating type of behaviour.
+emma coulter they fight for the stage, if you did Irish dancing, you would know what i mean but, if you do it clearly you have no idea how to move your dance around. She is obviously trying to get the adjudicators attention, because she wants to win
emma coulter Sorry but I dance for the same school as her. We don't get taught bad manners for dancing - we get taught the from amazing teachers. We also get told to get to the front of the stage, and smile. If you stay at the back of stage, the judges aren't going to be able to see you because you are behind the others dancers! Dancers don't really think about where the other dancers are on stage, it was accident she bumped into the girl in the green dress. They don't know each other's steps! Julia wasn't looking down either, she was looking up and at the judges and smiling because you are not really supposed to look down. The line is just for safety, it's ok if you go in front of it a little bit! Sorry if I seem rude, I just don't like other people being discriminative about other dancers in the school I attend☺️💜
I don't understand as to why people say that she's barging into people. I'm a competitive Irish dancer also and have been to worlds multiple times and may I just say that that is how we have learned to dance. The judges will not notice if you do not show some dominance. I'm not saying you should purposely shove around the other dancers, but you to take every given opportunity to get to the front and I know this from personal experience. At my first worlds, I did not know what expect so I was left in the back. Also, the white line closest to the dancer was only to express a safety hazard as there was a drop in the stage and was only placed on like the third day because it was not there the day I danced.
Ellie Stoubidis from people I've known who have been judges, i have been taught that the judges don't like it when we do that, but it's just personal preference
Ellie Stoubidis I agree with what your saying about not getting stuck at the back but I do think she was a bit too rough in this I've been taught since I was 2 that although you need to get out the front you need to have stage manners as well and in my organisation she would've lost a lot of points for running into someone and cutting in front of people rudely

Can you explain to me how they manage not to cut each other off? I don't really understand how the dancing works. How do they learn the dances, is there like a set few types and patterns of dance and they choose them? (Im sorry I'm a highland dancer so I have no clue)
+Highland Dancing Everyone's steps are different. However, we normally talk to the other dancers we're on with and plan the routes we take on stage as best we can to avoid collisions just to let the other dancers know which way our step will be travelling or if there is a section we'll be spinning or going backwards on. So often we'll say okay, you go in front and I'll go behind on that section if there is a chance you'll meet and have to cross over, etc. We try our best, but even then sometimes collisions happen.
+Highland Dancing well coming from a dancer it would honestly be really nice to be able to talk to the other people before hand to avoid running into each other but it's mostly just watching for the other people.
seeing as everyone's complaining about how she cut the other dancers off, you have to show dominance while on stage, it's one way of getting the adjudicators attention and it shows that you're confident with your steps. you are all just arguing for the sake of an argument lmao
Abbie Brady you can have the spotlight and stay at the front without running into the people around you personally I think when dancers purposely barge into people it makes them seem quite rough instead of being graceful which is important in Irish dancing
I may wasn't at the worlds but it's like on the competitions, you need to get the judgers attention so you need to stay in the front, on the stage is no one your friend, you want win and not to make friends (I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm form germany)
julia has always placed so high because she attracts the judges eyes away from the other dancers. this is key in irish dancing. from an irish dancer getting pushed off is a worse look than being the one pushing.
+Coco Lam they were all cutting up each other by mistake. They all have their separate dances but can cross and have to make slight adjustments mid dance
+Melinda Scott The girls weren't supposed to dance past that white line on the stage, so she really couldn't have gone around them without crossing the line and getting disqualified. Hope this clears things up for everyone.
I dont like the way she cuts people off if I was an adjudicator she would have been marked down for cutting a person off you dont have to play dirty to win!!
Actually that’s not the case! Dancers want to get the adjudicators attention by dancing pretty good but dancing aggressively. (I do this when I dance). So they show dominance when dancing.
+Phillip Langrish you do realize that taking videos of the dancing is highly restricted and julia could have been disqualified if they saw you filming it right?
Ohhh she was in a 2012 documentary and apparently has won at worlds nice to see her dance again I don’t dance at all so I’m so clueless about all this stuff
IM GOING TO SETTLE THIS ARGUMENT- i’d day she’s pretty nasty on stage and does purposely cut ppl off. sometimes that has to happen but it is kinda excessive. she’s there win and maybe those other girls are just there to recall. she should stay in her lane and calm down. she is a good dancer but can be respectful as well on stage.
True, but then the competition would take forever as there could be way more than 200 or so dancers (I haven't been to Worlds ever so this could be wrong) and each performance is about 2 minutes. During the set round, every dancer is the only one on stage as the amount of previous contestants drastically goes down, even though it's still a lot
@@anninginlove170 Welp I'm super late on this lmao but I'm pretty sure it comes from a lot of people filming their competitors steps at competition and then copying them back at their studio. Personally, I don't really understand why anyone would do this and try to compete with those steps, but I can see the appeal. Filming and photography has been banned from competitions, especially higher level ones like Oireachtas and Worlds, for a very long time now, but people still do it all the time. (At least, that I've seen--due to where I live and other reasons I've only gotten to go to 2 Oireachtases and 1 Nationals in my 10+ years so idrk what it's like at majors ^^')
Michael Brett no she is doing it to get in front and get the judges attention 😒 I have bean to the worlds many off times as I am a competitive dancer myself and lots off girls do it
In Irish dance, you are fighting for the stage and the judges attention. She is a world champion, and if it wasn’t allowed, I don’t think she would’ve been doing it.
She manged to cut the other dancers off three times and almost kick one of them in the face. It is very clearly on purpose and is an indication of poor sportsmanship. If I'm the judges I disqualify her no matter how good of a dancer she is. first of all you have to act like a human being.
Phillip Langrish It's not about having dance training and expirience its about teaching a child to be kind and play fair which is far more important then anything. Setting a good exemple in situations like this is pricless not only to the child dancing but to every child watching.
well. as an irish dancer , we are taught to get to the front. you want all eyes on you. her “cutting the girls off” got the judges attention and look, she is the world champion. it isn’t called COMPETITIVE irish dance for no reason.
Ha noooooooooo you obviously know nothing about the Irish dance world. If you did you would know that to get any attention at all from the judges you have to fight for the front of the stage. It has nothing to do with sportsmanship and everything to do with confidence and stage presence
No false start here - she's fine. Couldn't say whether the line factored into her scoring, though... I think it's more of a warning to the dancers that they'll fall off the stage if they go too much farther rather than a cause for docking points if they cross it.
This is shocking. A world champion exhibiting intimidating behaviour and lack of respect to other competitors on stage. If a dancer is in your line of vision, then dance round them, don't barge ino them.
sara west The Dancers have to To sorta "Fight" to be at the front of the stage. If you are at the back, the adjudicators will not be able to see your dance. Plus, you do not know where the other competitors will go next. It is unpredictable since everyone does different steps! ♡
sara west Unless it was a full head on collision where both dancers stumbled or fell, I can guarantee you she did not lose marks. I can *guarantee* it.
Honestly, I don't think she should have won. Because if you look at her trebles she did not make ANY sounds. I think the girl in the pink should have won. JUST SAYING.
The only moment I saw a spot where she got intentionally close to someone was at 00:32. In this early round, you have to show yourself. Julia would never purposefully cut people.. she just dances very agressivly I guess you could say.
Hi I was wondering if you could send this to me through Instagram or something as I have an Irish dance video account @irishdancevidz all Creds will go to you Thankyou 💕
cutting people off while dancing is very common and more or less uncontrollable. you don’t make up your own dances and you certainly do not know the direction in which other dancers will be going. irish dance is a COMPETITIVE sport so there will be competition. you cut off or get cut off. simple as that 🤷🏻♀️
