Now that the maestro has retired from the concert stage it is a great treat to still be able to enjoy this great artist at various points in his performance life. We get a chance to taste his great colorful and musical excellence. I was at the Manhattan school of music when he gave a talk and masterclass. I was at each concert he gave over the decades here in New York during my lifetime. The most colorful playing in classical guitar history!

Oh my, this is so special, Thank you selfTaughtGirl. Its only just started and i'm crying already. A chunk of me is gone now. He'll always be Sir Julian to me, if not to the Windsors.

Glad you "enjoyed" it. Read somewhere several years ago the five most important people for the guitar have been; Sor, Torres, Tarrega, Segovia and Augustine, and that now there is a sixth JB!

He did get a CBE. Not really adequate, I agree.

He is the one - he is beyond technique - he manifests the beauty of the guitar like Botticelli painted a beautiful woman - his sound is wonderful

You're right about painting; I always thought of music as linear until listening to Bream, in the same way you take in a painting as a whole, Julian paints a beautiful picture for us

A hidden gem on the finest guitarist and one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century. Also my great idol - ever since I first heard Julian Bream live in the early 1970s. Thanks for posting!

What a fantastic concert performance. The Arnold piece is a knockout (first time I've ever heard it - today!). I'm currently reading the book, A life on the Road. Well worth a look.

This is a real gift to me. Julian Bream is an amazing guitar player and this is a very rare and precious recording to me: I have the score of Searl's Five but I've never listened to any guitar player playing it! I'm so happy for this gift. Thank you!

This is excellent, thank you for the upload. I have listened to it many times. There seems to be something new to appreciate on each hearing, including the pieces that were in his repertoire for a long time such as the Bach and the Weiss. The Searle and Arnold are especially enjoyable. The 'Five' are very polished, almost like a studio recording for a CD. I have listened to it with the score on several occasions and hard to find any fault, just a great performance. The Fantasy is superb aswell. Bream at his best.

At his prime, without doubt the greatest classical guitarist ever. If only the younger players of today would just watch him and see how it's done. His right hand technique is perfect and that's why he was able to make such beautiful sounds. I'm not sure quality playing like his will ever be repeated. JB was self taught and worked it out for himself. Now students are being badly taught.

@selfTaughtGirl - thanks for posting this. The sound quality of concert recording aren't as good as studio recording, but you never ever get the sense of the musician or the music from those. This is really appreciated because I never heard a live recording by Mr. Bream and it is like a different universe and very personal.

Interesante... Por otra parte, teniendo en cuenta que Arnold compuso el Concerto for guitar and chamber orchestra Op. 67, esperaba otra cosa de su Fantasy Op 107. Si Bream no la grabó en estudio, puedo imaginarme por qué.

This is like the conspiracy Moon landing people. How ridiculous! Not only can you tell from the tone of the guitar, and the sheer Breamness of the playing it would require active participation of a hundred or so people to make a fake, and the sourcing of an exceptional guitarist. LOL.
