I consider these two incredibly fine, talented women, and every performance they have offered to their viewers, as 'Gifts that will never stop Giving'. If I may: A huge 'Thank You' to both of you, from every one of us. God bless and keep you Carol and Julie.
I'm 30 years old so this is well before my time. Despite that, I know exactly who these two woman are, and It's really cool to listen and be all like "OMG I know this song!"
These are quite literally the songs of my youth. I'll bet I haven't heard most of them since I was a kid, but I'll be damned; I remember every lyric without a thought. Good stuff. Good, good stuff.
An amazing performance by two pros - simply staged, incredibly talented ladies and a great medley of great songs. No American Idol wailing or vocal tricks. Just 15 minutes of pure engaging talent, plain and simple!
Julie Andrews singing the words "I get high with a little help from my friends" is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Magnificent, but so so odd.
My best friend and I memorized this off the album and used to sing it while crusing around like teeagers do. LOL I still remember the french intro 30yrs later! Thanks for posting and thanks for the memories!
Wow, Julie really can do anything! She speaks very good french! I understood what she said because I learn french in school :) I just love this medley btw! They are so brilliant together
Carol held her own with her limitations on range. Julie of course could do it in her sleep. Healthy dose of Glen Campbell, Burt Bacharach, Beatles. Lot of great lyrics and melodies to remember. Not much of that today in a phony digital existence.
"Ce soir , nous allons commencé où nous sommes finis. A Carnegie Hall nous avons présenté un mélange de chansons de l'année dix-neuf cent [1900]. Maintenant nous aimerions continuer avec les dix ans passés." "Oui, peut-on commencer ? _"Tonight, we started where we finished. A Carnegie Hall we presented a mix of songs from the year nineteen hundred [1900]. Now we would like to continue with the past ten years." "Yes, can we start?
When Julie starts speaking French, Carol is just like "What the hell is she saying" I know that she actually knew what Julie was saying but I find that part funny.
Julie Andrews looks so pretty here! Hard to imagine that casting directors used to think she wasn't attractive enough for films. Love this clip. You can tell they were best friends. Fantastic chemistry!
I don't think anyone thought she wasn't attractive enough; she's an English rose, and always has been. For MFL, they wanted a _name_ , which she wasn't at the time. (I'm not going to get into whether they _should_ have given her that; Audrey/Marni made a delightful film regardless, and it released Julie for other things!)
It was because Julie was not a screen actress at that point, the same year My Fair Lady was released, Mary Poppins was released, which got Andrews an oscar and cemented her as a screen actress, not just broadway.
@Blitzcomo I was SO about to write the EXACT same thing about Julie saying "I get high." What is it about that that makes it so funny?!? I actually laughed out loud when I heard that. :)
omg! Everyone says my mom looks like Julie Andrews (but with a NY accent) and I never realized it until I saw this. SPITTING IMAGE! I guess I know what she's going to look like when she gets to Julie Andrews' age now.
Even though they're singing the Beatles, it's still really funny to me hear Julie Andrews say "I get high". It might just be me. :D It's also funny to me that they imitate instruments. I think they're a great team, both musically and comically. :D
C'mon guys! I'm not saying a word against Julie, she is amazing, but Carol has just as much talent if not more! She had her own comedy show, she is an hilarious individual, can sing, dance, has an incredible figure, has a family and still does interviews even at her age!!! And did I mention she is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!
It's I Love Rock and Roll by Peter Paul and Mary, continuing on from what Julie was singing (: I love it too, beautiful harmony... This is such a great medley, and Carol & Julie and such fantastic singers (: Does anyone know what Carol is singing from 3:36 to about 4:42? I am currently trying to put together all the guitar chords to this medley, if anyone is interested in me posting it somewhere when I'm done...
I saw Julie Budd last saturday, April 13 2013. The show was amazing. She sings well. I would see her again in a moment. She is not Carol Burnett. No one is.
@Jennafu832 I think it's cause we all think of her as that innocent mary poppins/ maria character and then she says "high" and our brains get confuzzled XD
1:40 "What would you do if I sang out of tune...?". Now I know where the Wonder Years theme song comes from! What song is that and which artist sings it? I wasn't born until 1983 so I don't know of anything prior to 1980, musically.
Do you actually know the story behind Carol's blonde hair? The night before their concert Carol decided to do her own highlights using bleach peroxide that she bought at the corner pharmacy :) And you have the result right there - she wrote about it in her memoir "This time together".
