They sing while filming but they overlay the recorded audio. So you are hearing a studio recorded version of the song but it looks real because the actors were singing along while filming

@@ElishaaLi Actually not entirely! If you listen to the soundtrack the songs sound very different than what they sound like in the show. What they did instead of just overlaying it was mix the best parts from the live audio from the recording with the best parts of the studio recording so that we not only get a completely different feeling for all of the songs and get to hear the individual instruments more, but also so that we as an audience feel more connected to them. This is one of the reasons why Luke’s guitar solo from Edge of Great wasn’t in the official soundtrack, Charlie came up with it on set after the soundtrack was recorded and Kenny felt it was too good to not include in the show :)

@@birdieleo7244 yes I didnt mean the actual soundtrack versions are overlaid just recorded versions in general. Like for Bright you can hear the recorded version with Julie’s same “surprised laugh” when the band appears in all of the rehearsal videos

No they do lip sync the recorded songs sounds the same and on the behind the scenes videos you can hear the background voice of them with them singing very very quiet meaning it’s not them

you're right about the lip syncing, they are actually singing the songs while shooting, but they actually are singing to a prerecorded track

I didn’t actually know that. I k ew they were actually playing the instruments but I didn’t know they were actually playing.

Kenny Ortega(the director) always has them do at least one live take so some of the scenes are actually live.

She probably just said that because it is pretty standard for artists to lip sing for videos since they have to record for so long in the day, it helps to stop them from over using their voices. Unlike other people they don't do that and she just didn't know.

@@GrayeWolfe that happened to Luke’s actor kinda he got sick when recording one of the songs for that week cause they were performing all the episodes songs each week with so many takes then he got sick and couldn’t sing for a week and that had to postpone his part. Also they went to an intensive 6 week bootcamp and before even getting on the show had 3 auditions 1 with lines ( acting ) , 1 with instruments and singing and then on set they had to sing acepella so they can sing otherwise they wouldn’t have gotten the part ( they say all this in the Netflix extras ) so no lip synching was done in recording only over their prerecorded tracks of them actually singing for filming purposes

It's not live. 😅 Sure, she may have sung while filming, but the audio we hear in the performance scenes aren't live, they're just slightly altered studio recordings. With how many cuts and days it takes to film those scenes, it's impossible to be live audio. Check out the credits after each episode, there'll be alternative versions of each song.

Yep that's true I saw a live footage of BTS clips with one that showed Maddie performing wake up and run of the directors and producers so yes sir zero Auto tune or lip syncing she's all natural and so talented
