I came across this clip purely by accident. While I have always been a true fan of Miss Andrews, to view Mr. Nureyev in numbers other than Ballet was mesmerizing! His mastery of the Dance will always be a matter of record. It breaks my heart to realize that he (like so many talents) fell victim to the AIDS virus, a virus which should have been long ago eradicated from our world.
Julie Andrew's was so in touch with reality at all times.in touch with all ages beautiful person inside and out.never big headed like most are.so humble.and she can sing without some studio tweaking her music.singing live not many stars can match up to her. Uk
This is not only entertainement, it's a great education act, it's oppening the way to art and culture🤗 thanks a lot🌹🌹... and Nureev SINGING & dancing is wonderfull🥰
Breathtakingly exquisite performances by Nureyev and Evdokimova. Too bad there aren't more of these programs for children these days. Julie Andrews was a delightful hostess and guide for this special event and introduction to dance.Simply wonderful!
I was in the audience for the taping of the special. We were there from approximately 11am until after 1 am The footage was used two specials. One was for children. Footage of the audience during the daylight hours was used in that special. In one view of the audience was a great shot of my son.
A 12 year old. Not a very young child. We stayed to the end of filming. An incredible day. We lived about 20 minutes from Merriweather. When Julie first brought Rudy out to introduce to the audience., she said I know you are all here to see Rudy. A voice next to me said, not me I’m here to see you Julie., my son. He could be heard on the stage. Julie laughed, Rudy glowered
A few years after this, not long - for some God blessed unknown reason, Rudolf Nureyev danced a solo performance at a University venue in NYC, it would have been NYU or the New School for Social Research. I sat in the front row on the side of the house. Nureyev was dancing six feet from me. I remember it as a dream.
I am feeling so so so very much happy to see this video ❤ I know I am born to dance and when I see videos of such great artists I feel that I still want to learn more before I go on stage ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐 Thank you so much for uploading this video 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊🙏
I can't believe I've only just found this absolute gem. I've been utterly in love with both Nureyev and Julie Andrews since I was 2 years old, ever since I first watched the Sound of Music and Romeo and Juliet, and I thank them both for my chosen career in the arts, for inspiring me for my whole life. I've sat here tonight, in lockdown, currently unable to do my job, sobbing my heart out at such an incredible show, and looking at the expressions of those lucky children who sat watching this all those years ago, no doubt being inspired, as I was. I thought I'd seen every scrap of footage involving Nureyev and Julie Andrews, so to see this has absolutely made my heart burst. So lovely to see Nureyev's personality and versatility, and sense of humour - his charisma bounces off Julie so perfectly, I just can't believe it. Thank you so much for uploading it.
Only Julie Andrews could have hosted that great show with such talent, beauty and charisma. Her opening number is amazing. How wonderful to see her good friends Nureyev and Ann Reinking, who sadly passed away....Great art and entertainment together.
Watching in 2021, Theatres closed, this is entertainment. A good old fashioned hoofer and a wonderful singer. This is a great videos and well explains the history of dance in a brilliant way to everyone. If all shows were like this.
This is so wonderful. I wish I could dance! Not just move to rock n roll like I did when I younger...but dance. So glad Julie introduced this. Thanks for uploading.
I was just thinking that a great era of talent in the arts has passed and we have very few talented newcomers. Plus young people are just not interested in folk music and dancing nor tap and ballet. Culture once so revered and valued in our Western society seems to have gone as extinct as good manners. Sadly so many Greats have passed.
What a wonderfull show, with two big stars. The simplicity, the elegancy of these two artists/ performers is amazing. Mrs. Julie Andrews is a beautifull women, with such talent, she is elegant, she doesn't need anymore to express the way she communicates to all. Mr. Rudolf Nureyev, the great dancer, a legendary ballet dancer. I enjoy arts, specially, dancing and singing, but, when I see our references of our days, the fashion artists, they don´'t compare. Few have the talent, they only act with special effects to not show, some of them, they are so poor, so bad performers. Look to these, they don´t need that, look how they are dressed, so simple, but you still look and follow them on stage. They are shinning as stars as they are.
What a show. I posted it in my ballet group and my choreographers group. Both artists have been with me most of my life, I love ballet and other forms of dance and both of them together is a real treat. So multi talented with so much charisma.
It’s enchanting to watch , the audience, of adults and children . Fixed on dance 💃 truly inspiring , I bet some grew up to be fabulous dancers . Even some now famous ❤️ what has happened to shows of this extraordinary talent “ oops ok we have talent shows , but I wish we could return to this
I grew up during the time of good manners, respect for your parents and those in authority. And of course REAL talent: dance, music, song. Oh how I long for the 50s and 60s.
I wish I could dance again. But with a foot defect now and recovering from a stroke, I can no longer move to music. I miss it. I remember ballet as a child and all the work one has to do before a performance, it brought many lovely and painful memories. After my foot injury (I walk on a ball of bone now) it bothered me that I couldn't move my feet and body like I did (stand on point, etc.,), but the stroke was worse, the right side is down now, and I can't move gracefully as I once did. It was nice watching this though. I adore Ms. Andrews and grew up loving Mr. Nureyev, so it was a joy watching this program after so long. Showing my age, gut I remember when it was on television. Thank you for bringing back delightful and poignant memories. I remember wishing as a Young ballerina wishing I could dance with the great Nureyev or at least with Baryshnikov. 🙂
Where to start! The incomparable Julie Andrews, that style, that grace and oh yeah, that voice! Ah, Rudi you left us too soon. I don't know which I loved more, Rudi doing what he did best or dancing to Bob Fosse choreography. (Maybe not singing though. Lol) The joy on the audiances faces. Thank you
I recall when this came on and I was hoping I would get to see it. Then the time was announced and I believe I had to go to a practice. Finally, after all these years, I did get to see it and it was just as good as I had thought it would be. What a treat. Nureyev was so cute. WOW!
"Ive. Got Your Number"...originally done by.Swen Swenson..a darling sweet guy...who l had the pleasure of knowing......this iS QUITE A SHOW...such talent
Regressed big time my friend. I have always loved ballet, it's my big passion and now I hardly see kids who truly enjoy watching entire ballets or know what they are about. When I was a child in Europe, school was giving us tickets to a local opera theater to see ballet, classical concerts, opera and theater. Now most schools don't have art programs. Sad
Yes a certain, a very large part of humanity has regressed, no doubt about it and it is very sad. This is true for all sorts of arts, theater, literature, dance, music, painting, sculpture..... all sorts of attitudes in society, disregard of beauty and tendency to violence.... But we, the old ones, are still here and we HAVE NOT regressed... we still love the old cinema, theater, classic music etc...(so far !). As long as we are here, humanity will still be alive and we will transmit human values to our beloved ones. This must be our priority to fight against decadent behaviors and robotisation of human brains.´
Rudy never loses his composure while dancing. If you watch, he sometimes is late to a movement but it doesn't show on his face and he makes it look natural while retaining a calm facial expression, and always graceful movements, even if he is a little late. Also he is very aware of his partner and does not try to steal the limelight. He doesn't try to get all the audience attention. Loved the video. Thanks.
I almost cry watching this... so many memories... being from a small mexican city at the border, many thing hardly existed in those day, yet,the tv with this shows (like The Muppets) opened a big window where my dreams flew free as birds...far away from a small house, small town, small reality... By the way, I was a small boy (4-6 yo) with a big crush on Nureyev (also with Bariyshnikov but totaly in love with Rudolf)... nothing good when having a homophobic father and him to be the first one to call you a F word because of my "admiration" for Nureyev.
Prejudice is and always will be one of the most distructive , silently violent , and dangerous " weapons of humanity. So much hurt , pain ,anxiety and loss of productive talent is caused by it.
Its lovely to hear Rudy speaking with a beautiful British accent, l never knew he was such a versatile artist, l saw Julie in London fantastic as always, but l regret never seeing Rudy after watching this show!! Thank you for this precious video
This begs the question does it take more guts to try to sing a broadway number next to Julie Andrews, if you are Nureyev, or more guts to dance with Nureyev if you are Julie Andrews?
@@BytomGirl I don’t think either the dancing or singing came naturally to either of them. Did they start with a natural talent? Yes. Did it take years of hard work to develop and maintain that talent? Yes!
@@susanrussell8195 I think you misunderstood, those who don't have the natural inclination to dance or sing will never be artists. They are little children who hear a song, sit at the piano and play, there are those who see a dancer on the stage and dance the part perfectly and I know of such people. No amount of hard work will make someone into a true artist without that natural ability. It is called genius.
