Hi Julie, great painting, as a viewer it’s funny how the mind finds what is familiar to mentally connect with a painting. Question- what do you do with the finished multimedia art board? Mount on wood board, or? Just wondering how you would finish this for presentation. Thanks!

If i could give a tip i'd say to make much more bold decisions and marks. Take things away, put different things on, work it as if it is clay that you can change in the blink of an eye. You're much too careful and never reach a point where you're pushing boundaries of what you're making. Try it and a world of paintings you never imagined will become yours.

What kind of resin do you coat the paper with before you start please? I'm only familiar with gesso but that's an interesting idea.

love your painting - what is the tool? Looks like a silcone spatula?

It's a plastic bond knife!! I haunt the hardware store.

I take back what I originally said! I used two painting spatulas that I bought at our local art store, can't recall the brand but they came in like 3 or 4 sizes. Also a version that looks like a comb. They are fun to use and make interesting effects.

Julie, I think you need to go bigger and build layers to get some soul and story into your work. I'm not keen on what you are currently doing but having said that it is what you like and like doing that's important. Just make sure that you are ruthlessly honest with yourself. Push your boundaries and never give up or take critism to heart. Your paintings have some merit IMHO but I'd hate to see you not taking your work to the next level. So much to discover there. Best wishes and keep painting.

Hi Jim I am very interested in learning non objective abstract, you seem to know about it, do you have any course to share or something you can point to me? My soul is asking for this and I currently not on a decent monetary situation to afford great artists courses.. I am already painting but I don’t seem to know some “tricks” (or maybe basics) Thank you

I am sure it is just me... but I really just cannot "get it". I am trying so hard to understand... but I just see something my grand daughter does all the time with no concept or training at all. I don't mean to be rude... but it seems I could do this in my sleep. I am so confused. The harder I try to "get it" the less I understand this style of painting. :-( UGH. I am trying not to give up... but my art seems to have more "meat" to it than this. I'm still willing to try... but at 65... time is short.

You are just tickling the surface ,I would love to see some bold whole arm movements! Really extend yourself, it is too tame IMMHO! You go for it girl you can do it, cut loose, you have a great start there! This is meant in kind way my positive critique!

DeKooning meets Joan Mitchell...overworked and uninspired...sorry to burst your bubble but all this has been done to death.. Mitchell art sells for multi millions. Your copies just do not resonate and there are dozens if not hundreds of painters on RU-vid trying to monetize banality, not that it's bad art, just redundant, as the abstract art of the net is now the current 'kitsch'.

Wow! Something to really think about. Being that I’m drawn to Abstract, learning how to do it. I’ve only done a few. I find it very difficult for me to do. But your comment caused me to be question what I am watching. Who I’m learning from?
