Where was the Mother when the Father abused her? How could she not know or suspect something. The Mother enabled the Monster to abuse his daughter. Evil men love the innocent ones and the young ones are intimidated by these men

Agree. Take a look at your neighbors. If the Mom looks and dresses like she is the grandmother, often that is a sign. My Dad came home to his Mommy wife who washed his clothes and cooked his food. And he visited my half sisters room he built on the other end of the house. She was 4 or 5 when he met my Mom. I was not alive yet. Crime secrets affect the whole family

The hardest thing for me to believe in this whole interview, is that Julie can even put together a complete thought surrounding all of this trauma, much less write a book. The book "Transformation of America" is worth the read if anyone wants further insight into sex abuse and trafficking. After watching this interview I am compelled to look at people differently and with more kindness and compassion.

50:00 These abusive men seem to have a handbook because society is telling everyone that porn and prostitution is awesome and "sex work is work," and stories like Julie's, like Rachel Moran's, like Cherry Smiley's, like millions of women's stories of pain and trauma are not promoted. Even the "nice guys" believe that women WANT to be in P&P. NOBODY WANTS IT!!!! If it was so great, it wouldn't require money as the replacement for desire and CONSENT on the part of the woman. No amount of money is worth being dehumanised. And women's lives should not be destroyed in order for men to have orgasms. These industries are completely unnecessary and if they disappeared tomorrow, the only thing that society would lose would be tonnes of pain, suffering and death. Men would lose nothing except the wrongful entitlement to have whatever they want whenever they want. Oh, and traffickers would lose money, boo hoo. Governments are complicit because P&P is big business. Sweden has shown that it only takes a public awareness campaign to change people's views on P&P. The Nordic Model is the answer, but countries won't adopt it if people are either blind to the existence of trafficking or they condone it because it benefits them somehow. Thank you for putting your story out in the world, Julie. Thank you to Fight the New Drug for everything you are doing.

Thank you for bringing this out. It really helped me. I've been thru a similar story. I was a single mom who just thought I had an abusive bf. I tried to get away but couldn't. My family either didn't believe me or refused to help. I still don't understand. This guy would steal my mess and force me to take drugs. It was a living nightmare. He beat me stole from me and blackmailed me threatening to kidnap my son and me and hurt my parents. I was trying to sacrifice myself to protect those around me but my mother turned any support system I had against me and tried to tell people I was an addict etc. I couldn't get away because I did leave my own apt and everything I owned behind to protect my son but he was tracking me somehow and had stolen my cat for months. The cops couldn't really help. He would say if I didn't come out of my parents house he would shoot them and he had a gun and was a felon for almost stabbing Aman to death which I didn't know and he had lied to me about in the past. Anyway my parents hated me andi was scared 25/7 with no one to turn to. Strangers tried to intervene a few times but I just couldn't escape him. He slashedmy tires many times to keep me from getting away too. Anyway eventually I went to a rehab facility to escape him and labeled myself a addict lost my kids and job and friends but it did save my life. I transferred hours away to a different facility to hide from him and then left the state. To this day my family treats me like a monster and I still have debts and legal issues that we 100÷ caused by him but at least I have peace and he can't find me. It helps to know others have been thru worse things and survived. How brave this woman is! Thank you for sharing. It gives me hope that someday people will understand how this works and stop turning against victims and blaming them for things they really had no control over. It gives me hope.

Just got done watching both parts. Unbelievable. The amount of abuse and trauma this woman experienced with her father, her abusive husband Richard, and the trafficker Eric is absolutely unbelievable. It's left me feeling kind of numb. The big takeaway from all this for me is to intervene and take action if I see something wrong with a woman or girl. There was a time many years ago when a student of mine was having behavioral problems and I sensed something was horribly wrong at home. I discovered years later that she was being raped by a family friend. I wish I had done something. I KNEW something was wrong. And I don't ever want to make that mistake again... When Julie was talking about those instances of regular people not doing anything to help, that really resonated with me. I don't want to be that person that saw her being abused on the side of the road and just drove away. I feel like people in general, including myself, just don't want to get sucked into bad stuff. There's a natural tendency to avoid dealing with ugly things. But I want to be the sort of person who steps in and saves the victim, like Barry. If I'm ever confronted with that situation again, I want to be a strong person who does everything he can to help. Anyway, fascinating interview. You guys (Julie and Fight the New Drug) are doing incredible work!
@ilb735
@ilb735 4 месяца назад
I think it a natural thing, 'fight or flight, instinct' some will run / look away others will rush in without a thought. It's literally a reaction, nothing intentional, just see an injustice or someone in need and natural instinct takes over. There is a lot of fear in people & risk involved some just dont take time to consider such things in a crisis others cant deal with it 🙈🙉

3:00 Gavin de Becker, violence and protection expert and author of "The Gift of Fear" (which EVERY WOMAN SHOULD READ) says that protective orders are not often the solution in a situation with a violent, possessive man. In some instances, it can escalate the situation - GdeB writes that "In fact, if you work back from the murders, you’ll find restraining orders and other confrontational interventions alarmingly often. The personal effects of a woman murdered by her estranged husband frequently include the piece of paper that [an 'expert'] assured us has been “proven” effective." In some cases RPOs work, but women should remember that a piece of paper cannot stop a bullet.

My mom was all about human rights so we discussed whatever was in the newspaper etc. The only thing we are missing in our society now is honor killing and female genitalia mutilation, wait I’m wrong we got those too. Our poor women and girls. Maybe repealing section 230 might help, getting rid of statutes of limitations would allow prosecution of crimes over certain numbers of years. It’s different from state to state, some states don’t have them. Some states the clock starts ticking after it happens others after the victim turns 18. Mandatory self defense classes in preschools? Dear God, even babies aren’t safe. These crimes ruin the happiness of generations of people. We have so many luxuries at our fingertips and not even our children are safe.

Are you for real? Did you even watch all of this? You couldn’t have. Because if you did, this is NOT the take away you’d have had from this woman’s harrowing story. A. There’s this thing called a statute of limitations, which I’m sure applies to her father. She literally said she’s ONLY just learned what had happened to her had a name(s) and was a CRIM, through recent therapy. B. The amount of trauma this woman has been through, it’s amazing that she is even ALIVE AND SPEAKING after the abuses she SUFFERED, not that she committed. Remember that. She IS a victim. C. What in gods name does being able to be a PRE SCHOOL teacher who teaches 1-10 and colors and paints with 2-4 year olds, have to do with being able to text? How about taking your life long trauma bonded to you abusers to court. Especially the one you’re currently fighting with for custody! That sounds like so much fun. She HAS taken responsibility for the things she could control, admitting she is/was naive, that she didn’t stand up for herself, that she was scared and traumatized and brow beaten. Maybe if you haven’t lived in HER shoes, don’t judge her. Maybe if you haven’t experienced her EXACT SAME set of experiences, you should sit down.
