Die Stem did to me things other anthems could not. The whole anthem was so beautiful in my ears that I decided to learn Afrikaans. Also because it's the daughter language of my native tongue.
Removing "die stem" won't put food on the table. Removing "die stem" won't alleviate poverty in our country. Removing "die stem" won't take poor black people out of shacks and provide them with decent housing. Removing "die stem" won't get us jobs to earn a living. Please man! We have bigger problems. Die Stem is not hindering any progress in SA. We are 27 years into democracy, we can't still blame everything on a language and the people who speak it.
It does make you wonder, what scary things would the EFF demand if they were in a position to go into coalition? If they want to focus on symbols rather than government policy, they are going to take South Africa closer to the status of the next Zimbabwe or South Sudan.
He talks about an Afrikaans part of the song that was sun during Apartheid, yet sings songs that were sung during 'the struggle' that include words such as "kill the boer". Double standards?
@@vuyokenny8288 "Out of the blue of our heavens, From the depths of our seas, Over everlasting mountains, Where the echoing crags resound" These are the words translated into English, that are in question. The words that are getting so much focus because people are obviously hurt and offended by these words, right?
@@kaksakvisagie4131 The very same kind words you just translated where sung, to justify the beauty of South Africa and why we should be stripped of sharing the same resources. We are not referring to the language we are referring to the peom.
All four languages will stay Die stem sal bly en afrikaans sal bly🇿🇦 Let us live and strive for freedom in South Africa our land🇿🇦 Ons sal lewe, ons sal sterwe, ons vir jou Suid-Afrika 🇿🇦
The president of the EFF is being very clear here, singing in Afrikaans is not a problem including it's presence (Afrikaans Language) on the National anthem. The thing is "that" potion "Die stem" which was sang saluting that apartheid flag, which must be removed.
@@isakmnyameni5173 The problem is not Afrikaans, the problem is the Stem. We don't mind singing in Afrikaans, we just can't sing a song saluting apartheid or which was sang when saluting the apartheid flag.
@Tshepo M... Why now? It's not like it's going to solve corruption, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, the rate of newly infections of the HIVirus despite interventions to prevent it.. Should I carry on?
The strange thing about Afrikaans is that it is a language that started as a communication tool by slaves, it incorporates Dutch, Malay and other languages, the Dutch learned that language by slaves, Afrikaans is so indigenous to south Africa as any of our other languages, even though the oppressor spoke it, the oppressed defeated the system using the language too
There's nothing rong with Afrikaans, learn to listen what the argument is about,it is about die stem,an anthem that was sung while saluting the Apartheid flag,it must be removed and be replaced by other Afrikaans words.
@@mzwakhethenjwayo3618 die stem was a song that existed long before the the apartheid government was even a thing. Sadly it got appropriated and used by them. It used to be a protest song about resisting the british. Irony is a bitch. I am glad that a part of it has a home in your current national anthem. Because in its heart it is nothing more than a song about the beauty of south afrika.
How a beautiful poem/song made in the early 1900's was appropriated and now can't shake of the thing they forced apon it in 1948 (apartheid) This song wasn't invented for the apartheid government. It used to be a protest song, the lyrics, taken from a 1918 Afrikaans poem, speak of the deep connection between Afrikaaners and the South African land, with its beautiful mountains and waters. The song was popular among Afrikaaners who, in the early twentieth century, resisted British rule. Then it became the song of the oppressor. Irony is a cruel bitch. I'm looking at de Vlaamse leeuw hanging from my very wall and thinking of the anthem that goes with it. If flemish nationalists would fully take over and secede, and (for some reason) form a nationalist dictatorship, and they use this flag and the song that goes with it as its symbol and national anthem. If they get removed, should i fear the removal and erasure of my flag and anthem because it was associated with it? That it can't get rid of the stink of oppression and that it is too painfull to hear for people that suffered under it? This is what sometimes worries me when they talk of secession over here.
I'll probably killed if I say this. But Die Stem is a pretty good anthem. The song made me feel proud of South Africa and the effort that De Klerk and Mandela have made. Mandela himself respected Die Stem because it's not hate speech, nor is the old flag. However, in combination, it could be hate speech. Also, Malema has no say as long as he likes songs that threaten my brothers and sisters.
This man himself is guilty of genuine hate speeches several times over the past few months . Must he be replaced ? We need to come together regardless of race or political belief . Stop hate from all people of South Africa . Hate begets Hate .
Most beautiful anthem in the world. Hope Julias gets his way.Die stem would only grow stronger. There is about nothing else than our lives still on the line hey?? He already promised something about that too!
@@bennybooysen4723 no, you are, I agree with him. Yes the way he comments on this video is wrong, but if you are a religious person, then this must make sense to you.
Who do you think you are that u can speak on behalf of all black people? Black people aren't the best race... no race is... every race is racist, every sex is sexist, and every group on the planet thinks they're the best... it's so unfathomable that ppl really think their skin colour means anything.
for thousands of us.... u cannot erase our memories. ... history is in our minds and lives on .... ppl are so small minded.... everything seems to be offensive.... there are two sides to the coin..... black ppl hurt our kind.... but that does not mean we cannot forgive the past and move on.... it does not mean that we must erase everything concerning them.... in a country with so many crisis. .... leaders have their focus in the wrong places...
I honestly don't understand how we think using the oppressors system that was designed to work against us and still expect to grow and agree on anything. I mean we had and still have a chance to start over this whole thing and make it work. But ke as I don't see that happening anytime soon considering that we still fighting over words on the national anthem 🤷
@@NoKeysMotivations there's no more apartheid system, not even remnants of it. Whites are not supported favorably by the government or even at all in most cases( as seen with BEE, land reform taking shape, etc) Im not saying whites are victims, merely that we are not in control of south africa anymore. The constitution is completely different as with the rule of law. Policing is also much different. After 1994 the old ended and the new started. Whites have not been in charge with anything really in 27years. This to me sounds like easy answers and myths to shift the burden of proof from an ineffective and corrupt sect of the ANC to the past. (This reminds me of donald trump blaming Mexicans for everything) To say the ANC is completely useless is false, they really mess up , but at least cyril and his faction is in charge and definitely a lot more competent than their predecessors
@@NoKeysMotivationsyou don't understand your history. You must remember that apartheids original intent was NOT to oppress anyone. Rather seperate different people's so that every people could westernize on their own way. The problem was that the whites, my kin, the Afrikaners, were fearing genocide. That's the whole reason why De Klerk gave up white minority rule because the ANC gave the opportunity to not mass genocide the Afrikaner people but rather incorporate them in a new South Africa. Sadly the ANC has not followed the path De Klerk and Mandela hoped for.
Afrikaans is an African language believe it or not. Its got arabic, dutch, malayan, khoi and san words in it all mixed in South Africa almost 250years ago. English is the only non african language but everyone speaks it so you have to have it in
We need our on anthem where ever was written wrong we need to take it out stop talking hiding behind juses those who killed our grands they didn't think about juses
