Charles, Prince of Wales, and Anne, Princess Royal, of England make their first visit to the United States. They were landing in the Airport and Queen Elizabeth waved good-bye from the plane when leaving. They spend three days in Washington, D.C., where they visited the Capitol. Their tour includes a visit to the Smithsonian's Arts and Industries Building where they view space nose cones, helmets worn on the moon, and a piece of moon rock. They are accompanied by Julie and David Eisenhower and Tricia Nixon, astronaut Neil Armstrong, and Smithsonian Secretary S. Dillon Ripley. Former Astronaut Frank Borman explains the charred Apollo 4 space capsule to Princess Anne and Prince Charles during a tour of the Smithsonian Institution. Apollo 4 was in a series of unmanned flights which led up to manned flights.
The Prince of Wales also visited Mount Vernon with his sister Princess Anne and David Eisenhower, Tricia Nixon, Julie Nixon Eisenhower.
