Blahhhh...im so far behind on gear details....got my 2nd year landwork goals sealed up...but my rangefinder died stil havent had the dough to replace it.. my bowstring is down to threads..and i have 3 arrows.... Pitiful...i shoot every day sept for occaisional miss day..100 shots a day , all year..for 25 years..a full blown tuning rack by sofa..target down the hall for night shootin while listening to eps of bowhunting vids in the background archery nutjob...lol..yea..im divorced..usually relistening to one of your vids ive seen 10 times or Midwest whitetail eps ive seen 10 times in background..i cant be the only one this sick ! Still love it like my first bowhunt..i shoot 1 arrow at time...i shoot then go retrieve that arrow and shoot again..exact same arrow , so at 20 yards im looking for the same hole fixed broadhead or field tip..i am the only variable...and get kinda salty if im off and cant at least put the same arrow in quarter size group at 20..if your using the same exact arrow even if a cheap arrow..shot thru a cheap bow(was pse cheapest adult offering, something like firestorm or similar name and a random arrow pulled from a pile) 20 years ago with a hooter shooter machine would shoot same hole at 20..the shop owner that showed me that...gave me the 1 arrow idea..you shoot...then instead of just pulling another arrow and shooting...usually making same shot as last 1...ever notice how often you say hit left side of 10 ring then next shot is exact same place on dif spot when shooting ends..instead you walk down ..think about the shot on the way..what went wrong, right, what felt dif if the shot wasnt perfect..where was my pin when it broke..slows practice...keeps bowhand from gettin into a rut..a little time between each shot allows your grip set to feel closer to the first shot of the day each time like it feels after sittin in stand for hours not shootin..kinda like the only shot that matters is the cold shot...and allows me to shoot as much as i like without getting tired...plus i stay in shape...and i will shoot that arrow until i loose it or break it on non passthru..usually shoot a shaft thru 2 or 3 deer then ill hangup in a shoulder ...lol....nail a deer to an oaktree...and break my number 1 shaft...while i keep at least one backup shaft in quiver ready..that i know will hit same spot...once i start shooting a new arrow i may 1 click down or up left or right to fine tune that arrow and shoot only it until it breaks...by shooting 1 arrow..your legs may get tired, i can walk a path in grass to a dirt trail in 1 session at 20. But you can shoot long time without creepin or collapsing..and really mentally pick apart what you do right and what needs work between shots.....that old man also told me compound shooting is a thinking mans game...and when you fly perfect arrow flight , it is art...and sexy as hell 😜...i dont compete so no need to be able to shoot 3 arrows back to back for me...its all for the hunt..give it a try !..have a safe 4th everyone🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸let FREEDOM ring

@timbow50

Never too early to practice QUALITY practice. NOW is the time to make sure ALL YOUR archery equipment is in perfect condition. For those with rain or irrigation systems so the plots will grow need to start working on the ground. Patterning deer now for the most part is wasted time unless you have a high fence and the deer are basically pets coming to timed feeders. No patterning needed there.

How much value do you put on turkey population on a property? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quail on our land, but we always have turkey. 🤔
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 года назад
Turkey is a little more specific...they need edge, hardwood regen and grassy areas for nesting...but then open, mature timber for roosting and moving. Hard to make the perfect habitat on smaller parcels dur to a lack of open timber. But you can make great edge habitat nesting areas! Then when parcels get to well over 100 acres a landowner should have some more mature timber areas for access and downwind seer free areas for stand locations. Not a real good indicator species like grouse, rabbits, pheasant, quail and fall daylight deer populations

I tried NAP’s DK4 last year. Whew what a broadhead! The buck didn’t go far at all, literally couldn’t have even if he wanted to from the size of the entry and exit wounds. The photos they include on the advertisement for this broadhead are real. Only issue I had was (thanks to Jeff and his mentoring) it was a big mature 9 point and rib bones were so thick they broke one of the mechanical blades a bit but it did hold together enough to make the complete pass through. The blades are replaceable but they were not available when I called. They gave me a nice discount on a new set though. Great broadhead flys very well for me.

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 года назад
Hi Steven thanks a lotnfor watching! What's great at this point is you can fill in. I would add a light amount into the buckwheat, EW and clover to fill in light spots. The seeds aren't as susceptible to getting picked off then. If it's too thick for yhe new seed to grow you didn't need it...but in the areas getting enough sun it will fill in. I hope that helps you out!!

I have a question I have been putting a lot of thought into. I own and hunt a small property in NE Oklahoma. The area I am hunting does not have much hunting pressure and the numbers of deer as well as quality deer are there. I also have a pond that I stocked and keep up with maintenance around the pond. I have 9-10 bucks showing up daily including 2 really good deer already. I go out and feed my fish 2-4 times a week and doing this I have to drive by my plots and feeder. Twice in the last week I have jumped up 3 of my best bucks I have on camera. Once at 20 yards and once at 40. I know its early but how bad am I screwing up by continuing to go out to my pond? Obviously later on I will limit my visits but is there a concern right now? As of right now they are still coming back to the feeder regularly.

Great information Jeff as always. Boy your discussion in the beginning really took me back to my early days in archery. I used both the Thunderhead and Rocky Moutain broadheads back in the day, I even started out using the old razor blade type Wasps when they first came out. Shot my first buck with the original Dyna bow, not sure if you remember it, it had the single upper limb recurve and a lower limb cam. I can remember shooting the field courses with excelsior bales in Wisconsin, and we even use to have night shoots using our single pin lighted sights when they first came out. Thanks for taking me down memory lane Jeff our sport has certainly come a long way since those days and certainly for the better. Good luck this season.
