In the Bold Metal brush announcement video Nic and Sam said that those brushes were professional quality brushes comparable to MAC, Chanel, etc. (which speaking from own experience is definitely true) which is why they're more expensive. So yes, looking at them in a drug store it looks crazy but compare them to high end brushes and they're actually quite reasonable, especially for those in the US! :)
