Thank you Angela. I moved from NY to Buckeye AZ last August and still discovering the right timing to plant certain vegetables. Your videos and the calendar I have certainly helped me with the mistakes I experienced trying to grow a garden on my own here. Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing your knowledge, very much appreciated.

Thank you so much, Angela! I have a small gardening group that meets in my home, and we have watched many of your videos. We have bought your calendars as well. Actually I bought 2 because the dog ate my first one. 😀 At almost every meeting, we go over the calendar and talk about what we are going to plant that month.

Still fairly new to gardening so knowing that I still have time so transplant peppers is a relief. I’ve been having to start over with germination in general as I struggle to keep seedlings alive or can’t seem to get them to grow/mature past seedling stage

I love your indoor grow set up for the seedlings at 6:05! I use a Mars Hydro grow tent with a TS600 light but haven’t had much success with different varieties of seedlings. Do you have a list of the lights and the shelving you used to set up? I’d like to try using your method instead. Love watching your videos!

I'm always so grateful for your videos. You really get "growing in tough conditions." I'm in central California, and we're starting a pretty brutal heatwave right now. Do you have any tips for starting seeds outdoors for the fall garden? I'm not able to do it indoors.
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden День назад
Plant them a little bit deeper and wait a bit until temps cool if you can. It can be too hot for the young seedlings.

So glad to have found your channel - gardening in the desert has its challenges! Just wanted to confirm: next tomato 🍅 planting after July 15? Also, would it be better to summer over my tomato plants or start with new ones? Thanks so much for all your great advice!
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 6 дней назад
Yes, if the humidity level is high and you provide extra protection, shade, etc. If tomatoes are healthy keep them going. If they are diseased or struggling, plant new ones.

My tomato plants have flowers and only one tomato is developing. Do I take them out and put new ones in? Or do I leave them and hope they produce. I start them from seed indoors and transplant them to a raised bed.
@AlexGomez-ds9xq
@AlexGomez-ds9xq 7 дней назад
Probably poor pollination. I suggest planting more flowers nearby to attract the pollinators. Or hand pollinate with a vibrating toothbrush.
@Owen-xw8cs
@Owen-xw8cs 7 дней назад
They can have difficulty pollinating in extreme heat. Focus more on the microclimate / shade watering
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 7 дней назад
The pollen isn't viable in high heat - if the plants are healthy, leave them in and plants will begin producing again as temps come down.

May I suggest you try manually pollinating them just rub them together or use a q tip and gently move it around in each flower

Love your sharing of knowledge! In Tucson, I have mequite trees on most of my property. I tried growing in straw bales a few years back, and after 2 seasons, I found the mequite roots had invaded the bales. Any suggestions to minimize issues with mesquites, if I were to try raised beds along with my current container gardening? Thx!

Lay down landscape fabric hopefully it will help
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden День назад
Roots are tough - landscape fabric isn't enough unfortunately. I'd grow as far away from the mesquite trees as you can. You may need elevated beds.

I love your website and it is my 'go to' for gardening in Surprise. I am wondering where you buy the white shade cloth and what percent of shade it provides. I have an approx 20 x 30 feet of raised beds that are needing shading and would prefer to have the lighter color. I also want to thank your site for turning me on to Garden in a Minute Square watering grids and Arizona Worm Farm compost and raised bed mix.Biting the bullet and investing in them has made all the difference in my success as a new gardener! How does the extreme heat effect the number of days to harvest? We are between 107-119 for the next 2 weeks then we have a cool down to 103. It's typical to hover around 105 till sometime in October. I do not like to plant during this time. The heat stress is just too hard on plants. Even with a shade cloth the dry hot oven air is hard on tender seedlings.
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden День назад
I'd wait and not plant much of anything during this heat wave. You're right it's stressful for plants.

If they are happy and disease free when temps cool - keep them. If they are diseased or struggling, plant new ones.

Hello 💗 I just moved south of Buckeye (Rainbow Valley) and I want to order a chip drop. I've been looking around but I get both yes/no answers. My question is, Will a chip drop/mulch attract the scorpions to the garden? 🤔 Any advice, please? Thank you. **I haven't started anything. It's just a clean, empty slab of land.
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 6 дней назад
It's my understanding that certain areas have them and other areas don't - a chip drop probably won't attract them to your garden if they aren't already there.

We have done chip drops for a year and a half now, and it has dramatically changed our backyard in a shorter time than anything else. We didn't have scorpions before and still don't. I will ask for no palm trees in our drop or trees with thorns and they have been great!

I'm so proud of you, Angela! You've provided a concentrated source of gardening information for long-time Valley residents and transplants. As a MG myself (2009), it is good to see you incorporate and add to that knowledge. If you can, look into teaching/presenting at library systems outside of Mesa: Sun City, Anthem (MCLD), Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix... I have both calendars and your book and will laminate the monthly to-do lists. Again, invaluable information. 🙌
