Aw sorry to hear about Alex. My husband got covid last year and it was tough. Hope he's not too unwell! On a book note, definitely agree about the second half of The Family Upstairs!
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear Alex has COVID. I hope he’s not feeling too bad and I hope you don’t get it! Sending lots of healing thoughts to you both. I’ve been thinking about getting Assembly and I think I’m going to have to… I love books that interrogate race and class so this sounds right up my alley.
So sorry to hear about Alex! I hope he recovers quickly and completely and that you don’t catch it! It sounds like a fragmented narrative is challenging. I don’t think Ive ever read a fragmented story, but Assembly is on my TBR so I’ll be prepared for it!! I so enjoy your reviews, especially when you discuss the structure of a novel. i learn so much!! Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly review what you read!!
I recently started the Neapolitan series, and love Elena Ferrante's stories! You really intrigued me with The Days of Abandonment, adding it to the TBR. Also enjoyed Driving Your Plow - so quirky, yet so thought provoking! Hope you and Alex recover quickly!
Sending healing vibes to Alex and hope your ok too it’s rife in the north east atm xx loved your wrap up and I’m now going to scribd to get the secret lives of church ladies x
Poor Alex having covid hope he’s feeling better. Also hope you dodge it! It seems pretty rife in the north east at the minute. Feels like everyone and their dog is in isolation 😭😭 I go into your videos with the attitude of ‘Ok, what books will Grace convince me to buy today’. Answer for this video: Nothing Can Hurt You 👌🏻
Wishing you both good health! Looking forward to Assembly -though I totally agree with you about the contemporary aggrandizement of fragmentary novels (especially involving depressed or anxious narrators)- I’ve heard nothing but good things about it! Secret Lives was so good. It’s been optioned and I’m looking forward to seeing how they adapt it for television.
Grace … I was so sorry to hear that Alex has COVID 🥺. Please take care of yourself - vitamin c and zinc - stay strong and hydrate - both of you. This will pass. Yeah, I tried ‘Chloe Brown’ as well - not for me. I am reading ‘Everybody - A book about freedom’ by Olivia Laing. Brilliant. Must get my hands on ‘Assembly’ - it sounds right up my alley. Try to have a good weekend in quarantine. Sending healing energy and bright thoughts your way. 💚🙏💕
I'm definitely curious about drive the plow a good to hear you recommend it. I plan on reading survive the night in September, will see how that goes :-D
I am a new subscriber and I really like your variety of Genres. I have to say right off I don’t get along with Lisa Jewel(don’t read And then she was gone) terrible Book With gratuitous violence against young girls. And what I’ve heard of Riley Sager I don’t like.My favorite literary mystery writer is Tana French.I started my channel on my 70th birthday last August and I’m still getting my footing. Thank you for a very entertaining video. Aloha
Riley Sager and I don’t get along at all. Lock Every Door annoyed me. I do need to pick up My Brilliant Friend. It’s been on my shelf for too long. Well wishes to Alex. Hopefully you won’t get it as well. Maybe you’ll get lucky and have lovely weather so you can sit in your garden.
I just read a re-released Classic novel from Daunt Books called The Dry Heart by Natalia Ginzburg. The Manager at my local Waterstones recommended it. It was so good and one thing that struck me was that the writing style was so much like Elena Ferrante. Like you, I am a huge fan and have read all of her novels. You might like to give The Dry Heart a go. It's only 108 pages, but packs so much in!
Congrats and well done to you on your reading for the first half of July prayers and thoughts to you and your family please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your fan John xxx and we are back under lockdown in Victoria Australia
Oh no - poor Alex - is he ok? Hope you don't get it. Are you going stir crazy having to stay in when it's so hot? Assembly sounds amazing - oh dear - can I wait for the paperback? Unlikely.
