Memorial Day Weekend, Stephane and I headed to the Coast of Oregon for a fun adventure! We hit it perfect with a full moon and negative tide... PERFECT for clamming cockles, gapers, and crabbing! In this video we take you with us clamming for cockle clams and show you how to find them, clean/process them, and turn them into an AMAZING RECIPE... Linguine with White Clam Sauce!! It was such a great time and one of our favorite meals we ever made with our catch!!!!

Please stop digging in eel grass. It is extremely destructive to critical juvenile salmon habitat. It's not a coincidence you are finding a lot of cockles there. Ethical shellfish anglers know to not dig there!

I’m from New England so our clams are different than yours. I’m wondering if you could shuck those cockles live instead of steaming them open. That way you could reserve the natural fresh clam juice. Another idea you might want to try is clam pizza. Basically it’s just exactly how you made the linguine and clam but on pizza dough. Just maybe add a little bacon. Im a new subscriber😊

@Terry McDonald Waldport, Oregon. It's not that big a deal. I live 20 minutes from there. The central coast is constantly packed with tourists that come out to do this. No point in trying to keep it a "secret" 🙄 he literally had a local fishing guide in his back pocket that gives all these locations away...
@CatchNDinner
@CatchNDinner Год назад
@@anthonylatour9983 If a 1000 people go there because of the video and they each get a limit of 20, that’s 20000 cockles for a pretty small area. Not great! That booklet in my pocket were the regulations, not the local guide. We found the spot by luck. 🍀

As you figured out, the outside getting darker is no big deal. Probably there was some organic residue that got darker with cooking. If you clean them better with a brush before cooking that would solve the problem. I doubt that the actual shell changed color. Hope you enjoyed your cockles, because we sure did. 🤤

Mrine Corp injuries have gotten to me and walking very far or working hard have went away I fear. Where was that lovely flat? Hated to see folks injur a too small razor clam and throw it way; the fines are huge for small ones is why I guess.
@CatchNDinner
@CatchNDinner 8 месяцев назад
Not sure why they left it behind. You are supposed to keep all gaper clams that you dig up regardless of their condition, up to the daily limit of course. Once their shell is broken, they will not survive.

Thanks for sharing. In the video the person dug deep with the rake which would definitely damage the eel grass. We used the rake to gently move the eel grass around to expose the cockles. We were careful not to go deep with the rake. Next time we will stay off the eel grass. As the person in the video explained, there are plenty of cockles in areas that don’t have eel grass.
