On a snowy weekend we decided to tackle the Jumbo Grade Trail and give all our viewers a through review of the Jumbo Grade Trail. This trail will take you from Washoe Valley, South of Reno, Nevada to Virginia City, Nevada. This off-road trail is easy and has some amazing views of the Sierra Mountains. Drive your off-road or overland vehicle on this trail, find some camping spots and continue to Virginia City to grab a beer or a sarsaparilla! This trail is perfect for the weekend warrior or a family just looking to explore. Virginia City, Nevada is a great destination with small shops, restaurants, and local bars to experience. Many off-roaders and overlanders make Virginia City a common stop on their adventures. Grab you off-road or overland vehicle and explore this trail!
Go to our website to view the GPX file of this trail and others in the area.

Water was siphoned from Marlette Lake, over the Sierra ridge, thru Washoe Valley, and up Jumbo Grade to provide Virginia City and the mines with water. Through wooden pipes. I can literally feel the cold air on my face and smell the wet sage.

You mentioned going to the Petroglyphs. That is one of my favorite trails to take off of Lousetown Rd. When you guys go, I would love to follow along. I live in Mound House and I work in Virginia City (Washoe Club). I do not have a Jeep. I have a 17 Tacoma 4x4.

Badass that you conquered this in the snow, let alone in general! It’s one I’ve been wanting to do. The snow added to the ambiance of the video. I loved the music too. I’ve hiked to the old mill and townsite of Jumbo, but I still haven’t found the mines. Thank you for sharing! Any plans on doing the old Geiger Grade road?

Thanks! I’m in Alaska right now (checkout my TikTok and insta.) but when I get back I plan on doing more trails. And doing some updates on trails I’ve filmed already.

Went up there a couple weekends ago, the snow can make it pretty difficult too.

Done this ride a few times on a underpowered 125 dirt bike, love area. Any recommendations for good food with our dog? Ive seen many Side by sides parked downtown, is law enforcement pretty cool with us driving respectfully in town? Cant wait to get out of prison (Calif) and retire in the highlands

For that detour did y’all continue up jumbo grade to Ophir hill and then come back down to Ophir grade to get to Virginia city? I live pretty close by and have been wanting to drive this trail in my truck in my truck but wasn’t sure how it was, but looks pretty easy. Y’all should check out Geiger grade toll road. It’s a pretty fun, short trail that goes up to Virginia city from the bottom of 341 in Reno.

Yeah! We headed toward Ophir but hit a little road off the main road. A truck would make it for sure. 4 wheel drive in the winter! if you come up from Virginia City it's super easy. I will check out Geiger Grade Toll Road, maybe that will be our next video!

Nice video! I live in Dayton and am looking to find new friends to explore the local area (like this vid) with. I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD, so not looking for major rock crawling like a tricked out Jeep would take, but regular 4x4 off roading. I run a CB in truck all the time and run on CHNL 19. I go by Dakota.

@@GraniteChief369 I have taken my truck up the east of Rubican Trail to the lake at the summit, and I have done a little exploring around 6-Mile and have driven the El Dorado Canyon trail from Dayton past the Cave and eventually circling back to the east side of Carson City

I really enjoy your videos!!!Just curious is their any trails that a Hyundai Tucson awd will be able to take on? We would really like to take my boys out on the trails or all vehicles have to be lifted to take on the trails I live in the Reno area myself
@BlackRockOverland
@BlackRockOverland 3 года назад
It really hard to recommend a trail for your vehicle. I you watch toward the end of the jumbo grade video you’ll see a toyota SUV on the road. Seems like it was similar to your Hyundai. The backside of jumbo grade is so easy and pretty pack dirt road. If you go to our website and download the gpx file, you can open it in apps like Gaia gps and follow our route backwards. But be careful! Remember you’re responsible for what happens, so use caution. I’ve seen a lot of people get over confident with their vehicles and end up getting stuck and causing damage to their vehicle! Have fun and if it look sketchy don’t do it. Maybe I’ll do a video or blog of easy trails for SUVs like yours. Have fun!

Great video👍 will a lifted gmc sierra make it thru with out any issues? I would prefer not to get any pin stripes either lol
@BlackRockOverland
@BlackRockOverland 3 года назад
You will for sure get pin stripes. Not as many as some trails I’ve been on in the area, but you might get a couple. The only part I can’t answer is how your truck might do on some of the drops to water crossings. I don’t have a lift and didn’t hit the bottom or scrape so I don’t know if you would, all depends on the length of your truck.

Do you know if camping is allowed anywhere near the trail?

As long as you are on BLM land you should be good. Almost all the hills around there are BLM.

Hmm pretty good but rigs could be better. Now drop yourself two wheels, swap your engine with a single cylinder 450 cc displacement engine and well you got yourself an adventure rig right there.
@BlackRockOverland
@BlackRockOverland 3 года назад
haha, I've had multiple rigs like that. Hard to fit a family all on one bike!

This guy needs to take an overlanding course to learn how to drive his jeep. I've done this trail a dozen times both in a Jeep Rubicon and a Polaris Ranger and never used 4-wheel drive

On a nice dry sunny day, you’re right. Add 1 ft on snow, I would argue there are spot on this trail that need 4x4.
