Jump Shooting Geese From A Kayak (Cast & Blast)

With early goose season winding down in Virginia we hit the river one last time in the hopes of jump shooting some geese from the kayak. However, goose hunting isn't the only thing to do on the water this time of year as the smallmouth bite is ramping up as the temperatures start to cool off. The geese ended up being a bit weary and the bite wasn't on fire but we got some action with both the shotgun and fishing rod while checking out a very cool stretch of river. Hope you enjoy!

@@HokeOutdoors rivers and marshes. we have lots of marsh land here in MB and sometimes they take off real early but sometimes u can stay close to the bullrush and tall rass and jump them real nice even some small rivers hold geese in groups of a hundred or so! one heck of a feeling when they take flight. I usually take the stragglers cause shooting into those groups aint smart.

I would have dipped the Gun in the River a few times and clean it when you get finished. That was a good Float Hunt Thomas.

Thanks for watching Bob! I do carry a cleaning brush with me but the sand was stuck in there pretty good, if I could've found a place to stop I would've field stripped the gun but I was worried about losing a piece if I did it in the kayak

I went back to a pump for this very reason, I'm so tired of all the bullshit I went through with both gas and inertia guns. I shot a mossberg 500 for the first 10 years of hunting and I shouldve never switched to start. Now I'm confident my gun goes boom EVERY time. Food for thought.

Get your self some Rebel crawfish crank baits in river color we kill the small mouth up in Wisconsin on the rivers also work great for big brown trout just get the 3to 6 ft depth ones good luck .

I'll have to see if I can find some, I've always enjoyed fishing crankbaits for bass but haven't found one that works well on these river smallmouth yet

Thumbs up 4 sure. But take care of your gear, your gear takes care of you. Don't know your budget, but consider a Hobie kayak... Preferably an outback with all your gear. Hunting and ocean fishing out of one for years...!

I got my gun buried in sand it would shoot one shell just fine but it would catch up and not throw the other shell into the action it would get stuck in the bottom I broke the gun down completely and cleaned it now it works just fine nice hunt can’t wait for season to open here in Washington in two weeks good luck on the upcoming hunts

Yep that's what I did too, just had to clean the sand out of the action and it was back in working order. Hope y'all have a great season out there! How are the bird numbers looking so far?

@@HokeOutdoors I’m 14 went out for the youth hunt and limited out on cacklers,specks,mallards,teal and wigeon in an hour here in Washington the numbers are really big in certain places here along the Colombia river the bird numbers are big up north the snows are starting to move and the ducks are just starting to move down and on the coastal wetlands there was about 10,000 plus ducks and maybe a couple thousand geese roosting out there and staying on city parks and golf courses

Thank you! I have zero issues shooting from my 119, but I've also been hunting out of a kayak for a few years now. I would definitely go out while it's still warm and take some practice shots to get used to it if you haven't shot out of a kayak before

Hey, I have been looking through the regulations book for here in NC. I haven’t been able to find the laws on floating the river for geese. A point in the right direction would be awesome. I’m curious if it needs to be public on one or both sides or how that works.

I've never done a float hunt in NC so unfortunately I can't be of much help. My advice would be to call your local game warden or WRC office and ask them about the regulations pertaining to float hunting down there

Franchi’s are great shotguns, except when it comes to getting sand in the action and that bolt doesn’t want to engage into battery.. Had a buddy of mine unload the boat on the sandbar we were going to hunt and set my Affinity in the sand, action down.. I could have killed him. Nothing better than chasing Honkers on the river! Good video

The gun was full of sand from getting dropped in the bottom of the boat at the beginning of the hunt, worked perfectly fine on the next hunt after I cleaned the sand out

Thanks, good luck to you as well! This was the first time this season I'd had an issue with it jamming, I think the other times you saw was when I just forgot to load the gun all the way
