A most useful video for modellers, raising what is arguably the most significant cause of poor running on so many layouts - the wheel-rail interface is so often not understood - so well done! 👍 Poor /reduced back-to-back dimensions and coarse wheel profiles will inevitably lead to poor and erratic running and upgrading your wheelsets is a most worthwhile step. Hopefully your running will now be much improved. 🌞 _Even the newest Hornby wheels are uncomfortable on Ewhurst Green's finescale track so get replaced (they can have a slightly shorter axle length). Romford wheels are a good replacement as are Ultrascale - who make conversion packs for many locomotives._ 😉

2.5 wagons is expensive, but as you say, for far better running, it is worth it

Thanks for your comment ,The old wagons I have are very cheep 5 or 6 pounds each so 3 pounds per wagon is not to bad.All the best to you Colin.

Great video , I bought a new Bachman DMU that kept derailing and it was the back to back wrong on one set of bogies .

Thank you for comment back to back settings are very important to smooth running and easy to put right all the best Colin.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but is it the back-to-back or the Depth of the Flanges. Older rolling stock was designed to run on a deeper rail. Sorry if I am teaching people to suck eggs.

Yes you are right the flanges deeper on old wagons and the back to backs are the measurement across the flanges from one to the other. Thanks for your comment all the best Colin.
