As you read the life and times of Hosea you soon discover the reality that God often gives us difficult assignments. Can you think of anything that God expects of you that seems hard or unfair? If you can’t think of any hard assignments God gives His children you probably haven’t been paying very close attention to the Word. Start with this one: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt. 5:44). Some of the later manuscripts add that Jesus said, “bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you.” That’s a pretty tough assignment, wouldn’t you agree? Hosea’s personal life teaches us that God often calls us to a difficult task, but He always equips us to accomplish it.
