Nice update! FYI your help with the single barrel setup (and a uv bulb) have resulted in the clearest water we have had since we've had our pond. Thanks 👍
Love the video's just discovered your channel. If you were to have a standalone single barrel filter would you do the static or moving bed or a combo? I have limited space. Thank you.
@@jeffakamax Just WOW!!! Installed a 2 drum setup on Saturday.. and only after 3 days, my Koi pond is perfectttt! and its only been 3 days haha wish i can send a before and after pic! All the parts were sourced locally(Malaysia) except for Uniseal, had to order them through Amazon. I have been struggling with my pond for a good part of 10 years god damnit.. It had so much algae that you can barely see the Kois.. this really was my last try before I give up the bloody pond haha You are the man Jeff!!!!! :) .. Really appreciate all your vids.. especially the words of encouragement.. ie "even an untrained ape can build this" haha
What’s the difference between using a fast moving bed vs K1/K3 medium through slow moving to remove particulates? I’m building one now that will be 7,500-10,000 gallons, using 4-55 gallon drums for mechanical filtration that will move into 3-150 gallon “bog” filters for bio filtration that will then spill into the pond. The 55 gallon drums are all being fed from an 8200 GPH pump (all being fed from the pump at the same time), I’m expecting slow moving K1 beds, just wondering the differences thanks.
Static (non moving) drums are for mechanical filtration whereas the fluidized beds are for biological filtration. Static drums first then fluidized drums to return to pond. If you are using a single 8200gph pump, I'd split the flow and run through 2 separate line of drums. They work best at 2500 to 3000gph for flow. With head loss and frictional loss your 8200gph pump will probably run 3200 gph for each line of drums which will be fine.
Hi Jeff - have really enjoyed your videos and will be building a 2 barrel system this spring. What is the height difference between the first and second drum?
@@jeffakamax yes. i read that its based on feed rates and total weight of fish. your pond is massive. have you tried just using the barrel filters only? does it keep up with the filtration. my pond is 40kL, i am running 2 x 2,500 litre radial filter and a tiny 5000 litre bog filter that does an amazing job which i clean out 2-3 time a year. my water quality is still not great, solids that arent getting picked up unless i vacuum it.
