The red SRX, formerly mine , is now, HIdeaki's.
He wanted stock, handle bar grips (thinner), bar ends, stock tachometer...
At Roli's I borrowed his compressed air to pop off the fatter handle bar grips.
I had a "customized" tako meter... which I would later install on my blue SRX. I had a spare stock tach for Hideaki.
The running light stopped working, a solder had come loose on the tail light's circuit board. The red tail light was replaced with a spare of same design but with smoke-colored plastic.
Friday, the day before, at Hideaki's we solved why the decompression mechanism was not working, kick starting was awfully hard. It turned out the nut that holds the small lever under a cover at the lower end of the decomp cable had come loose from vibrations, and the lever moved out of its properly seated position, not fully engaging the decomp mechanism. Resolving this, we were anticipating an early Saturday ride with Roli.
But Roli had some special visitors that arrived in a Mercedes camper van that came from Europe by way of Canada... Hans and Cecil, traveling from Switzerland. We enjoyed seeing their camper and how they are set up to travel in style.
Which is how Hideaki and I ended up addressing all the issues at Roli's instead of going on the typical morning breakfast ride to San Geronimo.
About a week before, we had the carb out, replacing the float valve and seat with a fresh one. The screen which filters the gas which sits over the seat was partially blocked with some debris... (Roli had a partially blocked screen on his SRX, the symptoms were that the engine was not wanting to go above 5,000rpm, the fuel supply not being able to keep up with demand.)
Hideakl's was not as contaminated, but I suspected it needed to be replaced, it had been a long time since I checked.
Hideaki's main jet which was 131 was lowered to 126... it seems to have better balanced response now.
The red SRX is missing the aluminum plate that surrounds the speedometer... my impression is that the previous owner, a 75 year old man at the time, man in Cambria who was a Hughes Air production manager, preferred it this way with less glare. I dug up the aluminum plate from my parts collection... Hideaki will polish it up before it gets returned.
All good progress as it approached noon... it was becoming a hot day... we were done with the various things and decided to get gas. And to consider lunch...
Roli with Radar, his dog, and Hans, from Europe were on their way in the truck to borrow some equipment that needed to be jumpstarted then driven back to Roli's.
I am trying out Hideaki's bike while he tries my SRX, Peaceful.
Peaceful, feels very responsive and adjusted. Hideaki's is better with the smaller primary jet. Peaceful, happens to have a 130 jet... and odd size. While Hideaki's jets are from the Keyster kit. (131 to 126, one step leaner) Stock primary is 118. His primary needle is one step on the richer side, also from the Keyster kit. The mixture screw is 2.5 turns out, but I think it needs to be screwed out a little...
