I'm thrilled to welcome you to my June Garden Tour, backyard of My Carolina Garden!! I have several garden beds to show you, and plant names to share to see what's bursting with color and life in zone 8B, coastal North Carolina in June.
I will show you my blooming hardy hibiscus, coneflowers, colorful garden, tropical plants, rock garden and so much more!
My name is Nicole Roggeman, and I am a gardener in zone 8B in coastal North Carolina. Gardening is my passion, and I like to try new combinations of plants together, I plant for fun and try not to worry too much. Since My Carolina Garden is in Wilmington NC, we have hot, humid summers, and have sandy soil here. These are all things I keep in mind throughout the growing season. If you like my video content, please subscribe, and stick with me as my gardens grow!

Isn't dragon's breath amazing! I find seedlings everywhere, even in the driveway crack! Love that you mentioned it, truly an outstanding plant! We have many similar plants as I garden in Florida zone 9b. I'm treating myself to a new hardy hibiscus as today is my 79th birthday! I love your energy, you make me feel young!

I definitely enjoyed your June Garden Tour. The colors are so vivid with a coastal vibe. I heard you say you lived in New York once. Well Nicole, you can relate to the cold winters like Marion, Il. get. Take care. I am looking forward to seeing your Texas hibiscus in bloom.😍😍😍

Yes I spent most of my life thus far living in NY, so I can definitely relate to the cold winters. I do miss the amazing soil i had there. Now that I'm in the south, however, I'm embracing the coastal and tropical vibe where I can. You gain some benefits and lose others when you relocate ❤️

Nicole, it’s looking gorgeous and tropical with all the amazing colors! I was able to take the roots from the canna Lillies that I pulled up front. I gave the plants away to friends, but I now have 7 new plants in pots of my own. My question is, what do you do to avoid the ‘rust’ on the gorgeous leaves? Do you trim off the blooms once they have expired to avoid the mess? That’s really the only thing I can think of to try to combat the staining on the leaves.
@mycarolinagarden
@mycarolinagarden Месяц назад
Hi! Look at you go! I do cut off the expired blooms, personally. I think it looks better and keeps things neat. I don't really get the rust on my Cannas, but I do on other things, like snake plants. It is annoying!
@wesleyhackney

Great job reviewing your garden. Bananas are just so awesome and tropical looking. I want to know how long you think the perennial hibiscus will bloom is it possible to keep them going all summer ?
@shawn35jac
@shawn35jac Месяц назад
Hi Nicole, your garden just keeps getting more and more beautiful by the day. I love it. I have a question. Do you get Japanese beetles eating your cannas and hibiscus? They are here in Georgia already. How do you deal with them?
@mycarolinagarden
@mycarolinagarden Месяц назад
Thank you very much, I appreciate this! Yes, I definitely do get Japanese Beetles, and it's frustrating because they can do a lot of damage quickly. I spray with insecticide for them. I haven't found a more tame method (like Dawn dish soap and water like I use on aphids) is as effective.
@shawn35jac
@shawn35jac Месяц назад
Ok thank you. I did spray some insecticide but unfortunately the damage has already been done on my cannas. I’ve been wanting to buy some summerific hibiscus but I haven’t yet because I’m afraid the beetles to devour them.
@mycarolinagarden
@mycarolinagarden Месяц назад
@@shawn35jac Oh man 😞 My bigger problem on my Cannas are the worms/catepillars. It's sad, we work hard to have beautiful things and the bugs ruin them.
