I thought I’d bring you along for a tour of the top garden borders, whilst I undertake some garden jobs like deadheading, tying-in, staking and clearance. There are so many beautiful roses and plants in June that it’s hard to choose the view I enjoy the most!
I will only ever recommend products that I use regularly and believe to be good value.

Your garden is so beautiful. The roses are doing well in my garden too Annette. We have lots of the same ones.

Thanks so much Wendy - I'm about to film a 2nd tour because they just take my breath away and I don't want to miss it - it's such a good way to document the roses for me. 😁🌹

Hi Annette. Love all your gardens, looking fantastic. I have fairy roses that are similar to your first set of roses. I have moved them 4 times and they are always prolific. I have started cutting my spring bulbs back to a third when the tips die. It gets rid of the ugly dried leaves and my spring bulbs have looked great since trying this. Recommended by a US horticulturist.

Thanks so much Lisa - that's great advice on the bulb foliage and would be so much better than looking at all the mess for such a long time! I've not come across the Fairy rose before - it looks so cute 😊

Your garden is just so beautiful! BTW: I can never see any weeds, I’m always distracted by the abundance of blooms. Nice to see little cosmo, 🥰such a gorgeous cat.

Thank you so much Elle 😊 I have a great fear of showing the reality of the garden mess but sometimes I just have to get on with it or else I wouldn’t ever film anything 😂 Cosmo is so funny. He just wants to play all the time!

Don’t know if cutting the tendrils off sweet peas gives bigger blooms but by doing so the stems are certainly straighter and better for the vase as they don’t get distorted by the tendrils dragging them downward. Would love to have the time to devote to growing sweet peas by the layering method used by show growers. Hey sometimes you just gotta step back and enjoy what you are able to achieve. What a treat to see your beautiful roses. 😻

Hi Annette, as always it's fun to come and hear the happy intro into your video. I don't know if removing the tendrils from the sweet peas will get you more flowers, though it may just help divert the plants energy to growing more generally. I suppose you have to weight up the time factor and see if the results are worth the time you put in. I doubt you'll get much gain though, but I could be wrong. You always show so much it's hard to remember it all, but one thing I have noticed is that you love pink, and I bet you didn't know that haha. Thanks again. XX

😂 yes. I do like pink! But especially when combined with blues and purples and also limey green and white. Actually I like all the colours. Except maybe bright red. Or bright yellow - although even that looks great on daffodils! I do seems to lean towards the antique shades and pastels. It’s so hard to stick to one color palette though!

I have cut 3 bouquets of sweet peas so far this year, gorgeous long stems- really pleased with them. I have never taken tendrils off and my trellis is always smothered in flowers. I have read that it saves the plants energy and puts the energy into bloom production if the tendrils are removed. I bought Jacque Cartier last year. I am waiting for it to bloom. Can't wait. We are going to try and visit David Austen Rose garden this yer, also Peter Beale's 2 acre rose garden would be lovely too- there's always next year if we can't make it. Our car needs something doing to it, but tej dealers can't do it until about 6 week and the warning sign says the car will be impossible to start in 550 miles time :-( Did you save the seed from your gorgeous 'special' aquilegia? I can't wait to see what the seeds produce. Hopefully some more Cotto Verde blooms! Great video Annette- so enjoyable to watch. Happy gardening 🙂 x

Hi Be, thanks for your feedback re the tendrils. Gosh, The rose garden visits would be a dream come true for me - I really must put them on my list for next year. I have saved seed from the Aquilegia and I have some little seedlings that desperately need potting up - thanks for the reminder! 😁

Wow Annette..you sure have great luck with Nigella..me, not so much…. I do love your little ‘yellow’ meadow in the background. Also, did you start the veronicastrum (culvers root) from seed? I just love that!
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi 2 месяца назад
Thank you. Yes, there is no end to the self-seeded nigella in my garden! Richard has now mown the 'yellow meadow' because we are about to start prepping that area for a new border but it was lovely to see for a while. I've tried to grow Veronicastrum from seed but these particular ones were purchased as plug plants a while ago. I do love Veronicastrum for the structure and height and because it looks good through the winter months too.

Hi Annette, your garden is looking lovely, I to have some roses that tend to droop, could you tell me where you got you plant stakes from and what size are they. Well done keep up the good work
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi 2 месяца назад
Hi Tony, I've had these stakes for so long that I can't remember where I got them from but they are very similar to these amzn.to/3ROmGEh and I have them in various sizes ranging from 45cm to 1m. They are NOT super strong but they work for the purposes that I use them and I like the they can blend in so easily.

Your garden is beautiful. I have a question. My roses are in their first year and the first blooms were large. Now, the blooms are all small. Is this normal?
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi 2 месяца назад
Hi Vickie. I’m not sure what’s happened to make the blooms smaller. It may have something to do with the pruning style and/or food. They need an open vase shape when pruned and lots of food throughout the season, starting in spring. Perhaps the flowers are small because the plants have too many stems to support on too little food? It’s hard to say exactly what the reason is without seeing the plants but maybe this will give you an indication where to start. ☺️

Soooo I have a question. Aside from fake tubers on Am as on which is the dahlia that is the closest to blue you know of?
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi 2 месяца назад
Hi Adam, I've never found a blue dahlia. Only purple ones. I do have one called Blue Bayou but it's purple. Sorry I can't help...There are probably some blue China Asters that would bloom at about the same time...😊
@adamsmith6594
@adamsmith6594 2 месяца назад
No they lack the genetic make-up to have a true blue colour but I wondered if you knew of one that had a tinge of blue iridescence to it. We have one called Happy Days cherry red which is cherry red but it does initially have a purple sheen to the petals. Thank you for the aster tip. We did get some this year and now all the flower heads have gone over this week. Hope some more buds come up 😮 lol.

Hi Annette, your gardens are gorgeous. I get so much inspiration and information from your videos. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do to upload your videos. One question, what is the size of your drip tubing? is it half inch?
@cottoverdi

Thank you so much! We use drip tubing that is listed as: 14mm x 100m (30cm spacing 1.6 L/h) Hope this helps 😊

@@cottoverdiThank you so much again for answering my question Annette! I have been using 1/4” tubing with built in emitters every 6” and am not happy with it. Looking to change to a slightly bigger size.
