Love your advice regarding using a humidifier. Painting bird houses outside while sitting on a blanket is so my style. A few years ago my son and I made some toad houses out of a milk cartons using sticks/twigs, pebbles/rocks and moss to decorate it. We even used pennies on one of them to create a copper roof. It was so relaxing and fun. By the way your hair looks so cute and healthy.

Planks over poles 🥂 I live in the high desert above LA, ambient humidity averages 20%. I built a 6'x4'x6' high greenhouse with a PVC pipe frame & shower curtains. Then I enclosed a few shelves in clear vinyl.... Heehee

I feel as though everyone does the monthly favorite videos but yours are always my favorite. you really include a variety of planty things. Everyone throws a random one in the video but it’s clearly just to diversify the conversation. compared to having multiple plant supplies and going fully in depth of use, price, where to get it, and everything.

I'm totally with you re: the wood plank vs moss pole dilemma!! Although I've found that I am able to keep small modular moss poles ("lazy poles") damp enough if I keep them in my plant cabinets, and they work great. For plants outside the cabinet though, dry wood it is!

1 tblsp of vinegar to a litter of water with some dish soap/ detergent is fantastic for pests and doesnt hurt the plant

Siiiiiiiiiiii, I too would really like to see your coco peat/coir propagation process from start to finish. Off of your other video where you mentioned and we chatted about this very same topic, I was able to successfully root a Pilea polybotrya (Raindrop) from leaf cuttings only in coco coir. Yay!! I'll be potting soon as I currently have mine in a DIY humidity dome set up. Gracias Becca!

I have been using cedar fence planks also. I too have been much more successful with the planks vs a moss pole. When my albo syngonium attached to the plank the very next leaf was twice as large as the previous 💚

I have a bunch of plants on little baby fence post planks now, and the only one that has actually attached aerial roots is my cebu blue 🥰 I’ve actually had to switch poles twice for that one because they grow so dang fast, and I’m finding that with chop/propping and adding them back in to the pot - the vines figure themselves out basically. Starting to overlap other vines as well as grow up the (skinny!🫢) sides of the plank now aka getting in formation wherever they fit in 😆 it’s quite amusing to observe *Also, re moss poles vs wood planks as support - Dave (Aroid District on RU-vid) just gave a good synopsis / explanation in one of his recent videos, I think the one that discusses Amazon products for houseplants - basically that the moss pole is better as a support if you’re looking to prop the plant, ie you’re giving the aerials a nice moist medium to root into (like continuously air layering the entire plant) VS using a piece of wood as a support to the plant, mimicking a tree 🌳, that “something to lean on” is giving the plant the feeling of security in knowing it has a firm surface to cling onto and stabilize it, leading to foliage maturation. I’m prob not explaining it well but the way he said it made complete sense lol

I wonder if the wood planks hold humidity in a different way than a moss pole does? Maybe the planks have a little bit more natural dampness than a dried moss pole. My moss pole is literal dried moss stuffed in a mesh tube, it doesn't seem like it pulls any humidity from the air in the way that a wood plank does. I am picturing how the wood planks of my hardwood floors kind of expand and contract with humidity, maybe that's what's going on with the plant planks.

I love you favorites videos! I am not sure if you have the same formulation of sevin I was using, but my spider mites would keep coming back. I did some research and it said sevin (or maybe the ingredient on the label?) is not for mites, in fact it can kill beneficial predators of mites and make them worse! It was a shocking discovery bc sevin has been my go to and my parents always used the dust in our garden growing up. Capt jacks was another temporary fix for me that didn’t really work too but I guess there’s many kinds of mites and mine don’t always have webs. I am using Azamax now and no more mites! Thank you for you consistently fab content and l love your sewing too!

As the leaves get more light and the variegation increases in the leaf, the variegation will also increase on the stem. If the stem still feels firm and healthy I wouldn't worry!

@mariabuschard1763
@mariabuschard1763 2 года назад
one of the things I noticed when I used tap water (I have hard water with a high mineral content) I found that a white dust got on everything in my home. this leads me to believe that the minerals in the water went into the air. kinda scared me. I have less dust now that I'm not running the humidifier, and I plan to get a filter pitcher for the winter
@emilymajeski
@emilymajeski 2 года назад
@@mariabuschard1763 You’re right!! The same thing happened when I ran mine and then one day my heat stopped working in February after I’d been running my humidifier the most. The repair man straight up asked me if I had a stand-alone humidifier and I said yes. He said that was it! He sees it all the time -that fine mineral dust builds up on some nozzle inside the heater and it crusts over and stops firing up. He told me to get rid of it altogether.
@RandomRob3000
@RandomRob3000 2 года назад
If it's an 'evaporative' humidifier that's fine, but if it's 'ultrasonic' it creates a super annoying white film/dust on everything in the room. I've since transitioned to use only evaporative humidifiers, so much easier and cleaner than the ultrasonics.
