JUNE TBR 🦋deciding what to read from my shelves! 

21:15 "books are just great and i just wanna read them all" that's literally me when i'm reading a book then stopping for a moment to look at my stack of books wanting to read and reread them all at the same time!!

I'm handing in an application for a job at my library later today and its been really stressing me out. I've never worked before and I tend to get overly anxious about everything😅 but this video came out right when I needed it!! your videos are so relaxing, thank you emma!

The messy shelves is a vibe

I don't know why but the bookcart in the corner cracks me up. Honestly the messy shelves are a whole vibe, and who needs organisation when you have vibes? 😂 And I did see Carolyns announcement! That's so exciting!

I read the Lord of the Rings once a year, it's less like reading, more a place to go. I agree with you about the cosiness of the first few chapters. Reading The Count of Monte Cristo right now thanks to your recommendation.

I'm loving The House of the Spirits. I'm not very far in but I think the writing is beautiful. It's so much like Gabriel Garcia Marquez, like when musicians are inspired by each other's style.

I love the way this tbr is filmed. It feels like a vlog.❤❤

Emma I missed you!! I've been listening to Andy Serkis' narration of the LOTR audiobooks and they're so good and immersive! Also helps sm with getting through the trilogy :)

That "unto the breach!" reference was the best! My TBR is lengthy and unrealistic, haha. It includes Philoctetes, Jason and the Golden Fleece, The Two Noble Kinsmen, Emma, Giovanni’s Room, Moominpappa at Sea, A Girl’s Story (done), Fima, Kitchen Princess Ombnibus 3, Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, and maaaaaaybe Poor Things (only because it's so hard to get a hold of at my library). I've added that Rilke book to my general TBR! Sounds so good.

I'm having the best time reading LOTR with y'all! Can't wait for the live show! If you're looking for GREAT audiobooks, I cannot reccomend the Andy Serkis LOTR audiobooks enough! Andy Serkis is the voice of Gollum/Smeagol in the movies ( i believe he Mo-capped them, as well) and he does an incredible job of bringing the writing off the page. Also if you're a fan of the movies, he does like insanely incredible impressions of the actors it's actually kind of freaky, I literally thought Ian McKellan was voicing Gandalf for a minute before I double checked!

I absolutely LOVE Isabel Allende, especially house of the spirits. It is such an amazing story told so vividly. If you like it, I would highly recommend Ines of my Soul by Allende. Both of these were books I read for class in uni (history student with a focus on latin america) and they permanently changed my brain chemistry.

Never clicked so fast. Always makes me so happy to see you posted. 💛 I'm almost exactly as far along with LotR as you haha, still loving my re-read. I'm looking forward to what you'll have to say about the rest of it, greatly enjoyed your Fellowship vlog.

Just finished reading Return of the King an hour ago! Loved the series so so much! Fellowship is by far my favorite part, but the ending of the series was so bittersweet. My TBR for June is The Wind in the Willows, the Honey Witch, and Firefly Lane, I want alllll the summer vibes

I just read my first Rilke it was the notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge. I ate it up

i made my june tbr on the first days of the month, but i think i'm gonna switch it to a summer tbr because there are so many books i wanna read soon!! so i think looking at my tbr a bit more in the "medium run" could be nice for me 😊

i am absolutely adoring every second of lotr. i'm about 3/4 of the way through two towers and to my own surprise, i think i might actually prefer it over fellowship, if only for the fact that treebeard features in the book and we really get to see tolkien's love of nature shine through his character

My fav part of LOTR is Rivendell (ok ok and every moment with Aragorn).I love elves❤

4:49 i find it SOOOO unlikely you're not gonna like this, i came into this book completely blind not being a fan of magical realism at all and it still managed to be in my top 3 (maybe 2?) favorite books of 2023. It's a gift of a story, so potent!!! I'm super excited you're finally getting around to it

I started reading Allende this year and I'm on my 4th book by her at the moment, she is SO GOOD! And The House of the Spirits absolutely deserves the recognition, I do feel is very similar to 100 years of solitude, which is also one of my all time favorites! I hope y'all enjoy reading it, I literally read it last month🥹

I never knew I was a bibliophile until recently when I just bought a self help book called, The power of your subconscious mind. Then, I read The psychology of money, The art of being alone. Then, I ordered Atomic Habits, Ikigai, Mindset, Limitless. Then I went to read an autobiography from the owner of 'Nike' called 'Shoe dog.' Currently I have 8 books on my bookshelf. And, the moment they arrived I knew instantly that this journey is going to last forever. The smell of new books, removing their packaging, seeing their covers and fresh pages. The feeling is something else. It was like I had found my new love. And, then I started watching you and some other bibliophile youtubers. Now, I'm pretty certain that I'm ready for fantasy reads. I'm thinking of buying the 'six of crows' duology. I heard a lot about it. I would love it if you could suggest something good for starting my fantasy journey. Maybe a standalone fantasy would be better for me at first. And then dwelling into the duologies, trilogies, etc later. Thanks a lot for being here and providing the viewers like me who just came into this amazing book world with knowledge and insights. Love from India. 💞

Another great video! I'm currently reading the The Three-Body Problem series, and I'm really loving it. The first book is mind-blowing, the second book is addictive, and the third book is surprisingly heart-rending so far. I hope you read the rest of the books from the series because it's worth it. I LOVED House of the Spirits when I first read it, I usually find myself rereading it every year during summertime. Something about the South American setting in this book feels like summer to me. I hope you like it!!

One of the books I wrote my undergrad thesis on was Elif Shafak's The Island of Missing Trees. She's an amazing writer! (And btw, I got an A+ on the thesis!)

So my TBR for June and July is The Handmaid's Tale, The Stranger, A Storm of Swords, I want to re read Hamnet, A Man Called Ove and whatever the July pick is for the world tour book club :) (I'm skipping June because House of The Spirits I read it in March this year and loved it)

i went to probably the biggest bookstore in the country for 2 days and bought so many books (including the night circus) and i have actually never been happier. i love books so fucking much.

I love Isabelle Allende's The House of the Spirits so much. I haven't read in a while but now I am definitely gonna do a reread. Lord of the Rings is my favorite book series of all time, glad that you are reading it. Love the part that plays in Rohan in the Two Towers and especially I love Eowyn, the daughter of King Theoden. She is such a strong woman and character.

Magnolia parks is my favorite series of all time!! It is not “fun” or “light” in any way though haha.. I found it incredibly emotional especially as the series progressed, go in to it with the intention of wanting something entertaining and a little bit ridiculous, yet very poetic and lyrically written!! Happy reading💕💕

I think The Two Towers was my favourite The Lord of the Rings book at the time when I read it. I just loved the parts with Treebeard.

I wish you still had a PO Box so I could send you a better copy of the latter. The one I sent in 2021 looked kind of unloved when you got it. I'm reading The House of the Spirits and slogging through the drifts of The Sorrow of Angels. 62% through. Seriously enough struggling already. LOL.

I own a lot of books from latin american authors bc of my family and I'm never inclined to pick them up but you're making me wanna read them! I already moved 100 years of solitude to my personal bookshelf to get to it and now I'll have to check my mom's Isabel Allende collection!

I had a hard time getting into fellowship of the ring. there just wasn't any connection there. Im halfway through two towers though and im really starting to love it!

I've just finished Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende, my 5th book by her. She is such a gifted storyteller. The House of the Spirits is so good! ♡

Hey, emma! i'm so glad that you are finally picking up Allende. But i may warn you... If you are looking for something like One Hundred Years of Solitude you might not find it in The House of The Spirits. It is actually a very reallistic and costumbrist novel. It is one of my favorite books of all time, parcially because it feels so latin american, the values and the problems in the story makes me feel like home, even if i am not chilean, i am Colombian. We study the history of ditactorships and how it has shaped us as a society and we can really see that in this book.

My husband is reading The Two Towers! I'm currently in the middle of 5 books: Wind and the Willows M is for Mama 100 Years of Solitude The Bible The Case for Christ and I'm so enjoying it, and I shouldn't add more right now, but I really want to.....😂 I agree the messy shelves have their own charm. ❤

Actually, I just finished The two towers and really enjoyed it. The beginning, though, was very slow for me, mainly because I really didn't like the fact that the fellowship got separated. It took me awhile to really start enjoying the book. By the end I was completely swooped of my feet.

Great list! I'm definitely due for a reread of The house of the spirits, and anything by García Márquez should be amazing! And every time I see Ten thousand stitches it makes me smile :)

I decided to read the hobbit before lord of the rings (mainly because I had the book longer) but I’m excited to get to lord of the rings after !! I’m also currently reading one hundred years of solitude. I’m taking it slow but I am enjoying it a lot

I'm not sure if "The House of Spirits" movie adaptation is any good, but Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons (reprising their "French Lieutenant's Woman" adaptation vibe?🤔) are in it, along with Antonio Banderas, Glenn Close, and Wynona Ryder! Could be a bust, though.🧡

The messy book piles are fun and visually interesting, but it would stress me out day to day. I need to get back to the LOTR. The Two Towers is my favorite movie, so we'll see how that goes. I am currently reading Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. It's slow and cozy.

I've been feeling like picking up Anita Brookner's Look at Me, about a librarian who gets drawn into the life of a dazzling couple. I just finished The Trees by Percival Everett, binged it. It was a page turner.

Yay, an Emma video! Always good to hear about what you're reading! BTW, "Fellowship of the Ring" is my favorite of the movie trilogy because I think they did the best job. When I first read it "The Two Towers" was my favorite book of the three. But they're all excellent. BTW, word of advice, READ THE APPENDIX. It's fascinating. I didn't read it til a few years ago, but so, so worth it!
