Please join me in this video of June Whitfield's Grave - Star of British Comedy.
June Whitfield was a gifted and talented British Comedy performer who unselfishly supported the comedians she worked alongside for seven decades - shining bright but never extinguishing anyone else's light and they loved her for it!
With a wonderfully wild streak buried deep within the screen image of the sensible housewife or mother - June Whitfield was the best in the business and worked with the best in the business!
June Whitfield was known for such iconic British comedies as The Glums, Absolutely Fabulous, Terry and June, four Carry-On films, Miss Marple, The Last of the Blonde Bombshells, and much more!
Among the stars June Whitfield worked closely with for many years were Frankie Howerd, Terry Scott, Arthur Askey, Benny Hill, Kenneth Williams, Julian Clarey, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Bob Monkhouse, Roy Hudd (who called her 'The Comic's Tart' much to June's amusement!) and Tony Hancock!
Please join me as we take flowers to June Whitfield's final resting place in the tranquil and lovely churchyard of All Hallows Church in the beautiful village of Tillington, Petworth, West Sussex.

My favourite line, delivered with exquisite timing and intonation: To Edina’s ‘inside me there’s a thin person trying to get out’, June’s reply, as she turned the pages of a magazine: ‘Just the one?’

These video's are great! I've always been a Carry-On fan and working in Theatre for a few months short of 40 years (not treading the boards), I have met many thousands of artists including the lovely Dora Bryan, Barbara Windsor, Kenneth Connor, Jack Douglas and his great actress wife Su and shortly before he died I met Ben Warrriss of Jewel and Warriss fame. I was only around 23 years old then and didn't realise who Ben Warriss was......He was just Ben to me and very unsteady on his legs, so I used to take him his cup of tea every day to his dressing room. A lovely man! It wasn't until we had a huge display in our Theatre (The Bristol Hippodrome) of all the stars that had performed over the years that I realised he was Jimmy Jewels partner. Thanks for your great videos! Dave.

@davesheppard8797
@davesheppard8797 Год назад
@BeautifulBadandBizarre No, I never met Diana Dors. I met Frank Sinatra and as I said previously many, many others and I still meet someone new every week. I first started in Feb 1984. My first show was the Pantomime "Cinderella" with Lionel Blair, Kenneth Connor, Dame Anna neagle and I think....Patrick Cargill. I recently met Sandra Dickinson again after 20 years and we had a nice chat. Anthony newley was a really nice man too. I had always wanted to meet Micky Rooney and I did a few years ago and we had a chat about Fred Astaire. I have always got on well with the Actors and actresses I have met, probably because I have never been star struck and treat them the same as I would anyone else, they are just people at the end of the day and they appreciate being treated like normal people. I am the Maintenance Manager at the Hippodrome so sometimes have to work in the dressing rooms while the cast are there. A few years ago Tommy steele, getting on now! Came in a musical show. On matinée afternoons he had to rest properly between shows and had a bed in his room. He had a lady with him who was looking after him and making sure he was OK and didn't over do things. I had to go to his Dressing room while he was resting to sort his radiator one day and his helper stopped me at the door and said that Tommy was resting. Tommy piped up "No, let him in we're old friends" which I thought was nice. Anyway, much love to you and thanks for the great videos. Dave xxx

I loved the Terry and June performances. They were so good together, but her role as repressed/emancipated wife to the randy Stanley Blunt in Carry On Abroad was purest British comedy magic. Actually, I thought she was stunning, too. I'm sure the younger actresses considered themselves more of a box office draw, but to me, even though I was a lad at the time, June was stunninglyn gorgeous and simply brilliant at her job. OH WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!! Now you are resurrecting many memories of my childhood here. I remember around circa 1954 or 1955, I was around 8 or 9 years old, before we had a telly, the family used to sit around the radio and eagerly await our weekly broadcast of THE GLUMS - "TAKE IT FROM HERE." I remember all those wonderful actors and actress Jimmy Edwards, Dick Bentley, June Whitfield and the musical numbers by Alma Cogan. June's oft quoted address to Ron (Dick Bentley) was Oh Ron, what are you doing there BELOVID (Beloved). That line used to have this then kid in stitches. She plated a wonderful "ETH". I was only thinking about June and Alma Cogan last night and the wonderful evenings the family spent around the radio. I was quite shattered when I learned Alma Cogan died many moons ago, but I lost track of June as by that time we had immigrated to Australia in 1961 and June was hardly mentioned although Jimmy Edwards did come out the Aus, some time in the1960s and Dick Bentley (An Australian) returned home. I had returned back to the UK in 1998 and when discussing the past with my late Uncle who by this time was living in Herts; he told me that Alma Cogan was buried in a cemetery in Herts. We had intended to visit her grave but never got around to it. I did however love June. She was a brilliant actress. Thank you June for helping me have a very happy and innocent childhood. God Rest your dear soul and may HIS Perpetual Light shine on you. R. I. P. June.

June Whitfield came from Streatham, like me, so I enjoyed reading her autobiography which tells of her early life. June acted at the Streatham Hill Theatre, subsequently a bingo hall. As you said, she was the unsung hero, unselfishly propping up countless comedians and actors during her long career. She was one of the few actresses who had the patience to deal with temperamental characters like Terry Scott and Frankie Howerd. When June was a young chorus girl, Noel Coward was comically rude about her 'enormous' forehead, which she loved of course. June always reminded me of my mother: sensible, pleasant and approachable but with a steely determination when required.

I have a June Whitfield story, when they were filming the episode where they went across to France from Dover they filmed the car going up Dover hill in Folkestone and I lived on the estate near the hill ,I was about 11 or 12 then and we heard there was something going on down by the roundabout so myself and younger sister went down there and while standing near a big coach parked nearby June Whitfield walked past towards the coach I could have touched her . I didn’t have the nerve to ask for an autograph so I told my sister to and she did and got one which she still has. I wish I had done as I loved Terry and June and she also being in many carry on films which I love too. R.I.P June and Terry ❤❤

Thank you for sharing. There are so many ‘June’ moments that were so funny. For me it was in Carry on Abroad when she was left behind at the Hotel. She fell under the spell of ‘Georgio’ (well who wouldn’t! the lovely Ray Brooks was a crush of mine) poor old Stanley unfortunately was a little out of practice lol. Such happy memories of times gone by. Look forward to more fascinating videos 😊🌹

Altho I'm a huge fan of the Carry on's generally, for me June probably stands out more in T&J, whatever June started in was iconic, she just had that knack. My friend & I were fortunate enough to go watch Ab Fab being recorded & as we were on our way out I spotted June just going into a door with a huge minder, I couldn't let that opportunity pass, so I virtually jumped on the poor woman & probably scared the life out of her, but she was so lovely & chatty and I remember how small she was & how her hand felt so tiny in mine, il never forget it. Thanks for the great video Shar, I had no idea she did a song with another of my idols, Frankie Howerd.

Omg!!!!!!! You met June!!!!!! I’m shocked - from everything I’ve heard and read she was a really warm, genuine sweet person - even Barbara Windsor said that 😂 also I’m sooooo envious you saw Ab Fab LIVE! Omg!!! Let’s talk about Frankie Howerd!!!! He was simply amazing I loved him to the moon and back - I’ll never forget when he did that sketch for those students dressed as a vicar… talking from the pulpit - then at the end turned around to walk off stage in the backless costume NAKED 🤣🤣🤭 June said he was very naughty and always getting into trouble but she said she loved him so much! ❤️ Terry and June was such a classic - when comedy was truly funny!

The series I remember most clearly is Happy Ever After (1974-1979) June was brilliant as usual. When Terry & June began shorty after Happy Ever After ended I used to wonder at the time why they changed the name of the series if it was basically the same show. I never really got to see much of Terry & June much as by 1979 I had just started my first job had and like most teens back then I had a busy social life.

Hello many great rolls but the one that comes to mind and one particular scene has to be carry on abroad where her and Kenneth Connor , Sid James and Joan Sims were sat round a table and Sid kept asking questions to which she replied I tried it once and didn't like it and Sid had the punchline when it the conversation got around to children " Just the one child I suppose" or something like those words.
