47 y.o. metalhead mom of two here... Been an ARMY (BTS fans) since 2016, not because they're KPOP but because they offered me healing for my soul. I don't even listen to other Korean group but these boys steal my heart.

Same! BTS offered me healing, it’s something I thought I would never listen to them… but I fell in love hard with their music, their lyrics, their choreographies and how funny they are! When I listened to them I finally felt happy, since 2019 I was deep into depression, in an abusive relationship and even at the psychiatric hospital due to a su.. attempt. Finally, listening to Epiphany by BTS was my breaking point into been more positive and happy! I love them! 💜

So here's the thing about BTS and the individual members... not really Kpop. BTS is pretty much its own genre and kpop, really, is more of an industry than a genre anyway. Often times, it seems like the Western music industry keeps labeling any artist from Korea as "Kpop" in order to kind of keep them in their place... JK's song "Seven" won "Best Kpop Song" at the BBMAs... it was sung in English, recorded in LA, written and produced by Americans, the MV was recorded in LA, and the feature was Latto... and American rapper; the only thing Korean about the song was the Country the singer was from... yet the song was nominated in "Best Kpop", not "Best Pop"... all of this to say... do not adhere to the labels placed on these artists by the West. BTS also gets dismissed as a "boy band" which one, is unfair to boy bands because they work their asses off and put out some of the most long-lasting bangers we ALL listen to, and most importantly, most of the elements that defined "boy bands" in the West, do NOT apply to BTS... BTS write/co-write the majority of their music, they produce/co-produce the majority of their music, they are ALL the Justin Timberlake of the group (yes, they are all that good) they sing, rap, dance, write, produce... and their mics are ALWAYS HOT... no lip-synching. They practice incredibly hard to be able to sing and rap live while dancing.

Kpop is not a genre, it's more like the industry. Jungkook or JK for short is from BTS, a 7 member group from South Korea. Although they started from hip hop, their discography is diverse. You definitely see dancing in kpop. It's how they express their music. Standing next to you is the title track for JK's solo album, Golden released last month. Since their hiatus announcement last year, BTS members has been working on their solo projects before enlisting to the military. As of 12/12/2023, all 7 members including JK are in the military to fulfill their mandatory military service for 18-21 months. Other songs by JK that have mv or performance video are Seven ft Latto, 3D ft Jack Harlow and Hate You. These are from his solo album. It's funny when you mentioned Usher because there's a performance video released recently of Standing next to you Usher remix. For BTS songs, try on kinetic manifesto or not today. Turn on the captions for subtitles. They actually have 3 english songs (dynamite, butter, permission to dance) released during the pandemic to cheer up people. So it's more on the happy poppy side 😊.

It’s so funny that you mentioned Usher because he actually did a remix to this song with Usher! He’s a phenomenal live performer (all of BTS are!) and his Tonight Show performance is incredible. BTS are extremely versatile, both as individuals and as a group. His fellow member V released a very jazzy album recently and performed on Tiny Desk; I really highly recommend checking out that performance (with subtitles). A much different voice than JK’s! If you’re into rap, I recommend checking out his fellow member Agust D’s song Haegeum or another member called RM who released a song called Wildflower. Subtitles are a must. Whatever you think BTS is, they’re not. Jungkook is the youngest and is 26. They’re all currently in the Korean military but have a ton of music they’ve released over the last 10 years. Their music has very sophisticated and meaningful lyrics and they’re all very talented songwriters, producers, and dancers. The vocalists are very skilled and so are the rappers.

Yeah, I’ve got to be honest, I’ve heard of BTS before and had a VERY preconceived concept of a modern boy band singing songs I couldn’t understand. This was NOT that at all! I’m not in to dance music at all and even good R&B is a tough sell for me, but this was good… and I mean… REAL good. I’ll be the first to admit I may not like every song from every member, but I’ll also admit that I’ve got some work to do in my studio as this definitely left me wanting more!

@@ReactionsThatRock something important to know about BTS is that they are an industry disruptor, rather than a product of the industry (like Netflix vs cable). They were outsiders/underdogs and have made socially conscious music that criticizes their government and society since their debut single. They are from an upstart label made by a music producer who left a large agency to start his own because he was frustrated by the lack of autonomy and respect given to artists. BTS and their label refuse to participate in shady industry practices in South Korea and the US. They’re just genuinely good people making genuinely good music in ethical ways.

To be honest, JK and BTS are overly influences by all music Jk has talked about his influences of Michael Jackson, Usher etc. BTS started out as a hip hop group but evolve into musical geniuses'. RM who is the groups leader use to have the members listen to all different types of music. It lead to them trying all different sounds, styles. One of my favorite things is watching videos of JK riffing at the microphone. Even though they were broke; The other cool thing that they did is; They spent several weeks in LA learning the Genesis of Hip Hop with some hip hop producers, like Coolio. They made their first record in a garage in LA. Anyway, they are really interesting.

Thank you so much for giving Jungkook a watch. He is truly an incredible artist. Kpop is not a genre of music. It is an entire music industry based out of Seoul Korea. Under Kpop is hip hop, rock, r&b, and of course, what we would consider pop music. Yes, a lot of artists dance, but that comes as part of the training if they come up through a Kpop agency, and also because in Korea, the music industry is tied to the television industry, meaning artists perform live a lot more than western artists. Dance is good for ratings. If you are looking for harder Kpop, I have two recommendations. AgustD - Daechwita. AgustD is in the same group as Jungkook, but he has a completely different approach to music, being more hip hop inspired. He is one of the main producers in BTS and one of the best rappers in Asia. The Rose - Back to Me. The Rose is an indie rock band who is rapidly growing in popularity. Their vocals and musicality are incredible. Neither of these recs are dancy.

With their award tally creeping towards 900, with their official fandom at 40+ million (and it is thought unoffical is 90+ million), there is obviously something special about this group. And if you look at current (good) BTS reactors, they are from all over. They are pop, R&B, hip hop, rap, and yes, rock fans who ALL love BTS. BTS have always skirted around the edges of the Kpop scene. They never really fitted in there or in conventional Korean pop or hip hop, so they really were seen as an oddity ans as underdogs so were always underestimated. They are the epitome of the underdog story. I do give other male Korean idol groups a listen when they release new music (I don't listen to girl groups) and there are a few good tracks out there but none can seem to match BTS musicality and lyricism and, more importantly, the thoughts, feelings and sentiments behind the tracks. And NO ONE appreciates their fans like BTS. Good luck!💜

As others may tell you, BTS have over 300 tracks to their discography. With a hip-hop base in their roots, they have a lot of different blends of genres in their music. A 50+yo fan here who loves a lot of different music, including rock, but I happen to enjoy and appreciate BTS more than any other artists, in large part because of the depth of detail they put into everything they do and their hard work. I do enjoy the dance too soooo LOL. They do have some very pop songs, most of which were put out during the pandemic to help during a dark time, but some from before and after. I've been here for all the "boy bands" since the 70's and can say that none of them since then match what you'll get in BTS. No disrespect to boy bands or other groups who are out there, the depth and breadth for Jung Kook and BTS as a group or as solo artists are just unparalleled. Anyway, appreciate your honesty. If you check out more, awesome. If not, understand. If you don't like pop though, you might want to ask for some guidance to steer toward edgier or harder tracks. One of the other members (j-hope) has a solo track out called "MORE" which has rap and hip hop and rock elements. Maybe that would be a good one to try? Enjoy.

Nice reaction, thank you for trying it out. Btw, this is not K-pop. This is just pop (really closer to Motown funk reminiscent of MJ) sung by a Korean man. Because he is Korean and comes from the k-pop industry, the US music industry wants to tag it as k-pop like they've done with his other songs, so he won't complete with western artist because frankly, he is bigger than a lot of them. Also, BTS as a whole, the boy group that Jung Kook belongs to also doesn't really do k-pop music although they are from the kpop industry. They are nothing like Backstreet or Nsync or the rest of kpop. What you were expecting from traditional kpop is probably what you would find from most other groups in that industry. Some ppl like it, some don't.

But hopefully what you’ve seen from the individual work is their individuality and talent, and be blown away at how they’ve managed to negotiate 10 years of rap, ballads, edm, and bangers together. 62 yo baby army here, partial to The Cure, Bowie, Neil Young…and now BTS.

That’s why I keep coming back to them! I’m so used to the American boy band machine where the songs are all written by unnamed writers and the “boys” are basically hired singers/dancers. This is so much more and I’ve still barely cracked the surface. Seeing a group that does their own writing and choreography is really fresh. I can’t get enough!

I watch BTS reactions when people are sincere in their reaction. Even when they don’t like the song, people can say that in a way that isn’t disrespectful and I have no problem with that. People can’t like everything. Even I, as a long time army, will hear one of their new songs that at first I’m not sure about but within a week, I am singing it to no end and love it. 😂 I’ve never been a person completely into a group as I am with BTS. These guys are genuine, humble, charitable, kind, creative, and socially aware - their songs (and the meanings) resonate with people of all ages. I look forward to seeing what else you react to.

Thank you for your lovely reaction. The set and concept of this music video was inspired by the movie Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrmann (he personally commented and loved the video). Jungkook is the main vocalist of the group BTS. He use to rap in earlier BTS songs. This is the title track of his solo debut album "Golden". The dance here is homage to MJ. He also did a short mini concert on time square and only gave fans 30 minutes notice where he sang five of his songs from his album. You'll love it for sure. It's amazing! Thank you for giving BTS a try. One of the things that is so amazing about BTS is that no matter what type of song you are looking for, they have one to fit your taste. They are so versatile and broad in their creation and as you delve into the lyrics, there are many deep songs with important messages. Each member is unique in their tastes and musical talents. While western listeners often want the lyrics in English, hearing them sing in Korean is superior. They are Korean and we want to hear them in their language. Ask how many ARMYs have started learning Korean lol!

71 year old BTS Army here. Jungkook is the main vocalist for BTS. His label announced this track as a subtle homage to Michael Jackson. Just so you know, none of JK's solo releases have anything to do with Kpop other than JK is S. Korean. All of JK's solo releases including his just released album "Golden" are all in English. There are no S. Korean songwriters, producers, recording studios or MV shooting directors or locations, etc. He is blowing past Kpop and jumping head first into the American pop market. He is using American Grammy Award winning songwriters, producers, recording in the U.S. and filming at mostly U.S. locations such as Universal Studios in Hollywood. This one, however, is an abandoned power plant in Budapest, Hungary. The director is a very famous Ukrainian director who has directed for Harry Styles and many others. His self professed dream of being a giant pop star is clearly beginning in a big way! BTW, there are now at least 3 live performances. iHeart Radio, Jimmy Fallon Show, The Today Show, and there is a KILLER Official Choreo Version. He recently performed 5 songs at the TSX stage in Times Square, NYC. Only the third artist to ever been invited to perform there. You should react to the "Usher Remix Performance video" of this song that just dropped. It is ICONIC and a dream come true for JK. JK's solo achievements are the biggest of the group. ALL of BTS members are in the military now for 18 months as of Dec.12. JK's solo album "Golden" is up to 2 billion streams since Nov. 2. Thank you for your reaction! 💜

I'm a month late. Going to see what else you've done. Kind of intrigued by your potential journey. I'm sure they said but he is the youngest of BTS. He's doing his own thing which is unlike anything each of the others have done this past year as they put out their first solo albums before going into military. They've been 10 years together and all are unique in personality and musical taste, which has provided for versatility in style and spanning several genres of music which I suspect we haven't seen the last of yet. This is probably the most pop of the boys. If you like Rock, you will probably enjoy JHope's new album Jack In the Box with his song MORE and his song ARSON. The album is darker than his usual vibrant self yet still only promotes positivity and peace in the world. I don't call them KPOP at all. If you get into them you will see why. I'm form the 80's American Boy Band junk and had a closed mind going into them, especially when my first exposure to them was Dynamite and Butter (their two unintentionally biggest songs and my least two favorite songs). My background is Punk and I don't like POP at all. These guys started as HipHop but tried adding vocals and choreo of the KPOP world at a time when that wasn't really a thing and as a result they were shunned by both the HIP HOP and KPOP worlds. So they said screw it, we'll do what our own thing, which they did and now the KPOP world tries to use their format all the time. The difference being, BTS has been part of the creative process from the start. I'm sure others have all said this, but as this is my intro to you, I just wanted to throw out my two cents too. Anyway, if you choose to head down a BTS journey. I hope you share it with us. I think you will continue to be surprised. They are always changing it up. So if you hear something you don't like, you might go ahead and try another. OH... another you might like is Run BTS... you can watch their Dance Practice for that or check out their live performance in Busan! Might be a vibe you'd like. 💜

@ReactionsThatRock there are some metal musicians/ reactors that react to K-pop. I myself don't get into much K-pop. There are a few songs or groups I like, but mostly BTS is what I listen to. They started off as hip-hop group back in 2013 when they debuted, so the older stuff is more grungy. Danger is a banger that was from 2014. They just released all solo albums while each member started their military service. The last 4 members just went into the military a week ago. They will all be together again as a group in June of 2025. Military is mandatory in South Korea. A couple of the members will be out next year in June and the end of 2024 because they started first. If you do listen to more, turn on the cc for the english subtitles because it will mostly be in Korean, but their lyrics are everything.

Jungkook (JK if you prefer) is the main vocalist in the group BTS. (3 rappers & 4 vocalists aged 26-31). This is from JK's debut solo album called Golden. It would be nice to watch you react to the performance video remix of this song featuring Usher. As a 66-year-old male ARMY (BTS fan) I think it's important for you to note that around 35 to 40% of the BTS fan base is male, about 80% of the BTS fan base is 20-60 years old. Similar stats would apply to K-pop music as well. Please understand that K-pop is not a genre but is an acronym for Korean popular music which includes many genres from rap/hip hop, pop, rock, R & B, ballad, latin pop to EDM, etc.

K-pop is not a musical genre - it is a music industry. Like Hollywood is not a genre (well.. hm.) but a film industry localized geographically. J-pop (Japan), K-pop (South Korea), C-pop (China), T-POP (Taiwan), Indi-Pop (India), P-pop (Philippines). 💜 Asian vocal groups are not called a bands because they don't usually have instruments on the stage like a Band would, so they are called idol groups. These idol groups can get huge there is Korean group NCT that has 23 members - and Japan there is J-pop girl idol group AKB48 that literally has more than 90 members. 💜 The song is a known homage for the late King of Pop. And the full choreo even more. 💜 Jungkook is solo artist here. This is from his first solo album. (There is youtube videos's of how to pronounce his name.

There is an Usher remix to this. There is a performance video for it. This is Jungkook's solo project, but he is from the Global Supergroup BTS. It's fine if you don't like the "Dancy" stuff. If it's not for you that's fine. Jungkook is a very versatile artist, and he's written over 22 songs in their 10 years of being a group. All of the group members released their solo projects, which were all different, seeing as their are 3 rappers, and 4 vocalists, with all different interests. But I will say, that Jungkook is an amazing performer and dancer, so most of his performances have dance choreography. You might want to check out a BTS Tiny Desk concert. @@ReactionsThatRock I find that Tiny Desk is a good way to see their personalities and the chemistry of the group. Not to mention their vocal talents and charisma are easy to see in a stripped down setting. The video I linked for you to watch was aired during the pandemic in 2020. BTS were devastated that their Map of the Soul Stadium concert that they had already prepared for and sold tickets to (sold out Global Stadium Tour) had been put on hold. And they ended up releasing an upbeat dance track to uplift their fans. It was their very first fully English song, and it went number #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was what their fans and the world needed at that moment. They also ended up releasing an album that same year, with songs about the pandemic and how they were feeling and dealing with it. It was my first experience of a comeback with BTS. The album (BE) basically helped me deal with my emotions and depression through the pandemic. I became a fan in 2020 around the time Dynamite was released. I had never really knew of BTS's existence before that. I'm glad I made the decision to click on their music video and watch it. Their second single that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 was Life Goes On, I highly recommend that song as a reaction. It's a song that talks about the pandemic, and their experience, and it's the first Korean language song to hit number 1 on the Hot 100. Subtitles are provided. By the way, I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY, and I have a very diverse range of music that I listen to, from Queen to Taylor Swift, to Pentatonix. I grew up listening to classic rock like Journey, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Def Leppard, and I play guitar. I'm a lover of music, and my husband I are both BTS ARMY. While I only stan BTS, please know that there are many talented boy and girl musical group members that work insanely hard and should be given credit where it is due. I get where you are coming from. Like me, it sounds like you will maybe re-think some of these prejudices. Hope to see more! You’ve gotten lots of good recommendations. Fake Love and ON kinetic manifesto film I think are up your alley 💜

Another GenX Metalhead here chiming in to say that my husband and I are both ARMY for life. You might be interested to watch boracity magazine's video "BTS are rock stars" where she, another metal head, does a deetp dive into why so many rock and metal fans are also ARMY.

That's so awesome. I'm seeing that their push in to US mainstream has a very similar vibe to that of the early metal scene... grassroots, no radio support, a misunderstanding of the genre, etc. That video seems like one I really need to check out! Thanks!!!

@ReactionsThatRock Yes, they get mistreated a lot by the industry, at home in S Korea and in the US. They get a lot of ignorant and straight up racist interviews and interactions in the West, a lot of disrespect, and being snubbed for awards they 100% should have won as the most accomplished and deserving artists in the running. The Grammys (the Scammys to ARMY) have used them badly multiple times for ratings bait. They have dealt with massive, organized hate campaigns, even when they were just struggling to get their feet under them and still broke, partly because the Korean music industry, and the music mafia that ran it, could see how talented they were right out of the gate and were very threatened. Now it's the US industry that feels threatened. xCeleste has a video on some BTS harships, but it really just shows the tip of the iceberg. They continue to thrive despite all the concentrated efforts to crush them. What they have been through over the years is seriously insane. Yet they remain humble, kind, positive, loving and open, though they do have some scathing songs for the haters. The joke is on the industry now though. BTS built their company up from nothing into being bigger than the former three biggest lables in S Korea combined. They all own stock in their company also. The power structure of the music industry in S Korea is in serious flux as a result and the other biggest labels are imploding from the inside as illegal and shady practices are getting exposed now that their power chokehold is broken. CEOs and founders are being dragged into court. It's seriously "interesting times."

As you get into BTS you will find some of the things you thought you were expecting but they will also surprise you too about just how much they move away from that too. You will have to listen to quite a few of their songs to get a sense of what BTS sounds like. Enjoyed your reaction and hope you continue to delve into their stuff. Based on your commentary, do yourself a favour and do not watch Dynamite, butter or permission to dance early on - all lovely songs but will potential narrow your perception rather than give a true reflection of their diversity.

You can't put Jung Kook or any of BTS in the same sentence as some American boy band. Jung kook is part of the Biggest band on the Planet. All 7 members have their own solo work and all 7 member are now doing their 18months of military duty. They'll all be back June 2025 although Jin and will be back in June 2024 followed by J Hope in October 2024. Then the other 5 will be back in June 2025 for the grand union. It's going to be a blood bath to get tickets to their Stadium concert tours. Yes they sell out the biggest stadiums on the planet in less than an hour of tickets going on sale. Tickets are first offered to the fan base the General Public won't be able to get a ticket. I've seen them live at Wembley stadium with 60,000 other fans on their second night. This is only a very tiny taste of what they can do. They've been at it for over 10years now they debuted in 13 June 2013.

Your expectations for what K-pop is…is kinda like American boy bands from 25-30 years ago. BTS is something entirely new, entirely talented-7 guys who are really genuine musicians. Jungkook is one guy outta BTS. Since you like rock, can you do me a favor and react to “Back to Me” by The Rose? They’re a K-band, but the song is all English and it rocks.
@ReactionsThatRock
@ReactionsThatRock 6 месяцев назад
That was 100% my expectation. If we're being honest here, I blame the die hard fans of theirs that I know personally. They wear the cute BTS shirts, have BTS backpacks and air fresheners and they REALLY remind me of the NSYNC/Backstreet fans of years gone by. I'll definitely check out Back to Me. I can't promise it tomorrow, but it's on my list!
@xanthedanger8293
@xanthedanger8293 6 месяцев назад
@@ReactionsThatRock no worries if it take a lil while, I think you’ll like it. Looking forward to your reaction. Also, Woosung aka Sammy is one of two lead vocals, kind of the main dude, and he’s a Californian, and the whole band speaks English, just FYI (some a little more fluently than others). They’ve been around a while, and they do, in fact, play their instruments and sing live…there’s a lot of prejudice from Western media and common stereotypes that Asian music is all fake and fabricated, cookie cutter stuff. Gotta unlearn that. Music is universal.
