As much as I enjoyed MJ's dance and choreography - and I did, believe me-it has to be said that everything he did was a copy of others previous to him. The Moonwalk was Bill Baileys in '55 (it's on RU-vid) and was originally called the ' backslide'. Jeffrey Daniel from Shalamar was the first to do it on UK TV on Totp in - I think - '82 or' 83. In fact MJ invited Daniel to go to the States and help him perfect it. That was in '80 but MJ didn't perform it until 1983 (as part of him wanting to incorporate street-dance into his choreography). And let's not forget the inimitable & ground-breaking Nicholas Brothers who REALLY paved the way for what we, decades later, were made to sit up and go w...t..f..?! at, lol. Again, I am certainly not taking anything away from MJ. He had the benefit of instant global attention which helped enormously and his choreography of, which I believe HE arranged personally for not only himself but the backing dancers too. One of my favourite performances was in the Smooth Criminal video (the one with the 'lean'). That was a masterpiece.! All of it, not only his dancing. However, I can't help but point out that although MJ was amazing, he certainly wasn't *that* precise in his technique and execution. In the years leading up to his death, the effects of the cornucopia of painkilling medication (almost all of it was addiction-related and unnecessary. I'm not sneering at MJ here, btw. I was addicted to dihydrocodeine for many years and that was bad enough. But the amount of drugs MJ was imbibing on a daily basis was always going to end in an early demise. Especially given how devastatingly strong and addictive the painkilling medications in the US are compared to here in the UK) had by then a deleterious effect on his body, especially the ligaments and tendons so fundamental to how he performed. I hope you don't mind me commenting on your post - which I enjoyed - and trust that you accept my reply in the context within which it was sent; with respect. 😊

@@gallente4TW you're partially wrong here. I think it's wrong to say MJ copied all of his moves. MJ was influenced by a lot of dancers but always made the moves his own. MJ worked with a lot of dancers some of whom I've met like Bruno Falcon aka Poppin Taco, Boogaloo Shrimp, Cooley Jaxson, Casper Candidate, a few of the electric boogaloo members and of course Jeffery Daniel. The aforementioned worked with Michael mostly on choreography as Michael was a fan of Poppin, waving, animation, gliding and boogaloo. He incorporated some of these MOVES into his OWN style . This is what every dancer to this day does (I know this as I dance a bit and am heavily into the poppin community). Mj of course had always been a great dancer way before he even met a lot of the dancers I mentioned. We have all seen him dance as a child and I found it amazing how he was able to pick up people's moves even though this was an era of black and white TV and no vhs to watch playback. Completely the opposite to the ease of access of dance material dancers can access today. By the time he was in his 20s he was too famous to hang out with a lot of the street dancers and pick up moves so he brought the best street dancers to him to enhance his already unique style. Can you imagine the level MJ would have got to if he was just a dancer and didn't have so many distractions?? It's a bit lazy to say MJ copied everyone by picking one or two moves out of his vast arsenal of moves. All you need to do is watch videos of those guys and watch MJ and you'll see their styles as a whole are completely different. Also to top it off they all learnt from each other (they meaning Taco, Shrimp, Daniel, Cooley electric boogaloos etc) but we can't call that copying in the dance world we call that exchanging the most important thing was to make it your own which they and MJ always did. PLEASE watch interviews with Poppin taco who I think was the most influential to MJ and the least fame hungry compared to the others. I had the pleasure of meeting him back in 2017. He worked with MJ from 83 to 97, was his personal dance coach, was in captain eo, smooth criminal, Ghost and was also in the dangerous and history tours. Taco is really humble and always keeps it 100 with MJ compared to the others who tend to exagerrate or lie about what they taught Michael. (Some of them). Check some of tacos interviews out on MJ .

This sound is retaking over the world. I say re because this sound already happened in the 70's and 80's. It is a remermergance of Disco and Funk sometimes called Nu Disco and Nu Funk or indie dance. I love it. The only issue I have with it is that the songwriters were way better in the 70's and 80's on the whole.
