(Please note: Despite the messages in the beginning of the video, this was ripped from the official VCD release, not the VHS. While the quality of VCDs are generally pretty low, I managed to upscale it, so it's about as HQ as possible)
Great documentary from a somewhat obscure VCD, titled "Junglism". A good glimpse into the mid 90's jungle scene with interviews from Lemon D, Dillinja, pirate radio DJ's, MC's, and more!

Same thing here. Not sure what exactly it was about jungle, but as soon as I heard a couple of tracks, I knew it was a special genre with a unique scene around it - I felt like I had to be a part of it somehow. I actually discovered jungle by accident lol, I was looking for 'Worlds On Fire' by The Prodigy, but clicked on their 1992 track 'Fire' instead. I loved how visceral and high-energy it was, and from there I learned all about breakbeat hardcore and 'rave culture'. Fast forward a couple of months and I stumbled across 'Bombscare' by 2 Bad Mice on Moving Shadow. After that, I just kept going for a couple of years... now I'm here!

@@crypticjungle thx for sharing ur journey & the best music documentary ever!!! I relate to your path. I have early memories of hearing Ragga as a kid in the 90's in Jamaica NYC Queens (a lot of Jamaica's live there & its a melting pot in a melting pot). There are some hazing memories of hearing some higher dimensional hip hop ragga at least a few times, that tapped my soul, from some speeding cars. And I hear that sound when visiting Euro as a kid, especially in the UK airport in between flights. So when I found the music in Highschool, it "peaked" my musical interest. Especially since this music contains every style of music I love, grew up to, & discovered (like Skinny Puppy). Now I've began to capture my love, for all this & beyond, in my own nutshell. Some "Cryptic Jungle" for THE Cryptic Jungle ;) Hope u enjoy the journey! www.mixcloud.com/GuntaDeva/g%C3%BCnta-d%E0%A5%90v%E4%B8%B9-x-a%E0%A5%90s-dan%E4%B8%B9-am%E0%A5%90nnory-sh%E0%A5%90ll-082819-live-001-remix/

@@tristate0mind Sorry for the late reply, but thank you! I'll check it out! I mostly developed an interest in music around high school too. Took a break from the channel for a while, but I've been working on some things... gonna expand 'Cryptic Jungle' from just a RU-vid channel to something bigger ;)

@@tristate0mind I'll share mine! Was a kid growing up in Oxford - my dad was a big record collector and almost every time he went out he would come back with 7" or 12" vinyls in bags. My dad is into 'big people' music, he was too old for jungle then ( and at 9 years old so was I, technically, this was 1994). in the bag this time was some records for me - and randomly they were Jungle Hits Vol 1 and Jungle Hits Volume 3! My cousins at that point had grown up in the dancehalls, deejaying, building sounds etc. They were mortified that I had been 'infected' with the jungle virus, which was gradually pulling more and more people into the clubs and out of the community spaces and halls. For me though, it was the first music scene that really blurred the lines between the UK and Jamaica - the two sides of my family - and even now, feels the closest thing to an authentic 'British culture' that I could connect with. Through jungle, the door was opened to just about every genre I could name, ragga, dub, hip-hop, house, rare groove, classical, jazz...The UK was definitely carrying the swing!

Nice glimpse of the jungle. Not much of a documentary perhaps, but lovely anyway.

@@crypticjungle Thought I'd seen all the old jungle bits, but now this! It's an interesting bit of footage, more like a visual/musical display rather than a documentary, weird but cool!

@@Brokout Yeah before I uploaded it, I realized it wasn't a full documentary, more like a 'showcase' with some full tracks in-between interviews. Didn't really know what to call it other than a 'documentary' so I guess it's ok lol. Probably gonna sample it at one point.

@@crypticjungle Any jungle footage from the golden era is hugely appreciated so thank you! It's weirdly one of the most undocumented musical genres out there, so little footage from many of the legendary raves that used to go every weekend
