This is a 1985 Banjo Matthews super speedway chassis with a 1988 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe body. Tim Brewer made the comment that at that time, all of Juniors cars came from Banjo Matthews, but this car has a Hutcherson/Pagan front clip with rear steer. So at some point this chassis was reclipped.

Quite possibly the coolest and sexiest looking NASCAR stocker in history. When the Chevrolet guys showed up at Daytona in February of 86 with these new aerocoupes and Geoff Bodine went on to win the 500...the Ford and Pontiac and Olds and Buick guys just threw a tantrum. These were really fast and beautiful cars.

That would be 86 an they had a right to complain that car which is called aero coupe is nothing more than a aerodynamic band aid to help a piss poor designined car keep up with bill elliott.that car should have never been allowed on a race track period

@@brianbooher7318 What type of narcotic are you taking? I SAID 1986 chump...everyone knows it was the SS aerocoupe....and Bill France, Jr. allowed it conditional to docs corroborating it's being built.

@@frankcastle5294 well if they allowed that aerodynamic bandaid car to run then the great Chrysler wing cars should never been banned..that car was jus a band to cover up a piss pour design by Chevy engineers an should been either banned like the wing cars or in reality never should been allowed to start with

The Thunderbird was a two door sports *coupe,* illegal in a class for two door *SEDANS.* Ford was allowed to enter a Camaro sized car, against the GM sedans. Go cry somewhere else. The fact is, the Thunderbird is what was *illegal,* it's *Ford* that was allowed to *CHEAT.*

I wish my mother in law’86 Monte Carlo was an aero coupe , I would have kept it when she stopped driving. To my knowledge, not too many of the aero coupe’s were available in Canada . I still have the ‘73 Monte Carlo she had that the ‘86 replaced.

Jr was smart enough the writing was on the wall. He went back to Ford the next year.

When they were first making the ones the back glass like that. I had a buddy who's dad knew Jr Johnson, we went to his shop and they had a car a couple of feet off the floor on a flat piece of metal. The GM guys were there measuring it every where. My friends dad said something about Daytona not being that far away. Jr said he had a few in the paint building that one was for the GM guys. We were just out of HS and Jr said that the beer was free if we wanted some. We were going around anywhere in the shop checking out everything.
