I think I'd actually cry if I saw someone carefully restore my childhood DS lite like you did here. The amount of respect and care you show for it is just beautiful.

As a DS lite lover myself this is absolutely incredible to see, not replacing the shell to keep it authentic is great. I feel like some of the wear on these systems gives them a personality so I prefer to keep some imperfections if the device still functions fine. Love the channel, keep it up.

I like that you genuinely said "this unit works, inside is perfect, it's only dirty": sometimes videos say that the console is faulty and they just replace the battery and clean and call it a restoration, while i appreciate the effort on replacing buttons, soldering, doing electronics reparations, so you being authentic and realistic about this cleaning is the most hearthwarming thing.

Someone kid was so happy to get that DS when it was new, it's clearly served them well and although they have abandoned it in its time of need, it's nice to see someone else taking care of it and giving it a second life

LOVE seeing something old and battered ACTUALLY be revamped and cleaned up as opposed to simply swapped out or gutted for parts

I love the idea of maintaining patina on older handhelds. It's something that's been popular with a segment of the vintage car restoration community for a while now. I think it's rad! You can see the age and the love the unit received. It's also why I always love shopping for used books, with their worn covers and creased binding. Excellent video, man.

Honestly years ago the Restoration Videos are why I fell in love with this channel. There is Just something satisfying about restoration videos. I also can't believe that DS was actually the White DS Lite 2k23

I got my start cleaning/repairing video game stuff with DS Lites. I think they're a beautiful console and probably one of the best Nintendo has ever designed. Great job with this restoration. It's all about giving overlooked items a second chance - always a satisfying feeling.

You showed that well-loved DS a lot of love yourself. I can't imagine putting that much work into it and not wanting to use it all the time.

Ive never watched any videos like this, but i really enjoy the way you enjoy that someone has made great memories with this Nintendo DS. And this motivates me to open up my Nintendo and clean it. And also repair the first one i got as a kid, which i broke... sadly.

Great job! The DSL was such a great system and the game library is amazing too. It makes me happy to see another one saved from the landfill. With an EZflash you can even play GB and GBC games on it.

I really like this video as you still relatively kept its soul. I see so many other restorations that make it soulless, make it look like it’s brand new and never been used, I feel like tiny imperfections just make the console so much nicer as it shows memories were made and fun was had. This doesn’t just look like a brand new console it looks like a used console that someone cherished and cleaned regularly

I love all video game consoles, and I love that you view it as another life. Someone made so many memories with that & finally decided to let it go. Always fun to watch someone breathe new life into an old device, when I was younger, had myself a black ds lite but haven't played it in years. I wish I could find it again and play all the games I used to play.

I started buying lots of used handhelds from Japan a few years ago and pull one out to fix/restore when I'm bored or need a pick me up. Can I send my DS to you to get refurbished? I was basically scammed on EBay. They sent me a dirty DS and the thing stopped working 2 months later

Beautiful restoration! I tried swapping out the shell and ended up breaking some things, gave up and now it just sits in a drawer mocking me. Modding a GBC and GBA SP are so easy in comparison but the DS Lite was a nightmare for me.

sometimes i delay watching your videos a couple of days until i need something nice and gentle to watch.

I somehow wandered into console restoration videos from furniture restoration ones, and I gotta say I really love and appreciate your take on this. My fav furniture videos were ones where they didn’t just paint over the flaws, but rather spent time and effort cleaning and repairing the original piece. While often this resulted in the piece not looking 100% new, that wasn't the point. The point was to give the piece a new lease on life for future generations to enjoy, while not losing all if it's wonderful history. I'd say you succeeded here!

Got recommended this video today, my birthday, when I finally retired my over 7-year-old (I think) 2ds for a refurbished 3ds. I'm keeping my old 2ds to give to my boyfriend, and probably will use it for companion/trading games like Pokémon, but I appreciate watching you restore this extremely loved ds. I hope that one day my old 2ds will fall into hands like yours and be given new life ❤

The slight yellowing makes it so authentic wow

Back in 2019 I purchased a NEW 3DS XL off of FB Marketplace, even in those 3 years it was owned it was loved beyond belief, the screens are immaculate , but it genuinely looks like it was used to deflect a few knife lunges, pulled it back out of storage last week to finally homebrew it and I have fallen in love again, hence how I made it here, I had both a white and then a red DS as a kid and it's incredible to see you show such love to an old device like this, great video!

This is lovely, I have a black DS lite that I own since launch. It's not as dirty as this one because it's black, but i was used to the extreme and so many of my good memories come from this small device. I bought a almost brand new one for my collection, but I'll keep my og one forever

I recently grabbed a cheap jpn white ds lite with a broken hinge to refurb. I was orignally just gonna do a shell swap, but this showed up in my recommended the day that ds came in, and after seeing the final result I ended up deciding to also refurb the shell rather than fully reshell. I even had a first go at wet sanding and polishing the top plastic, and it now looks minty af, and looks and feels far better than any third party shell would

I think the yellowest part being the hinge is because it's the side that has the LEDs, which emit a little bit of heat directly in contact with the plastic. The heat makes the plastic yellow, kinda like our silicone phonecases nowadays, they're essentially yellow where we put our warm hands.

I really respect you for not replacing the shell, it's the first I see someone doing that and believe more people need to do it!

This just hits different. As a working adult now that has barely enough time for leisure, this really brings back memories of '04-'06 that grinds your days just playing Pokemon or Mario. I want those days back.

It's hard to believe my nintendo ds is now 19 years old, I took Super good care of it but finally the hinge broke for the top screen, I replaced the shell and then that same problem happened only 3 years later, I still use my ds to shiny hunt and trade so it foes my heart good to see these consoles so lovingly fixed and given new life

Its like the ds lite went from being in someone's garage collecting dust, to looking brand new out of the box. 😮 Pretty interesting video

white ds lite 2k 23! Great video I absolutely love the restoration videos they really make my jaw drop when you compare the start and finished product.

I ended up finding and restoring an old DS Lite a year or two ago. It was a bit battered, and the touchscreen was scratched and not working properly, but I was able to get a new bottom screen and digitiser, and it works brilliantly! Not bad for something I found in a tender centre for almost $15AU!

0:32 This is refreshing to hear, to be honest. When I was younger I lived in the countryside, couldn’t get a job (too rural) and didn’t even have consistent internet access. So my handhelds were all I really had, and they got BEAT UP (not unlike this one). It wasn’t for a lack of love for them, though, it was actually FROM a love for them and consistent (relentless) use. It’s nice to hear that acknowledged rather than defaulting to “Ughhhh, look what this person did to this console!”

Please do more videos like this. I just love it so much; I've watched it multible times. I like how much space you give everything. I don't ususlaly like ASMR because they cut so quick that any sound doesn't have a chance to resonate. But, you time everything so well that I feel like I am in a forest on a fall day with nothing but the trees making noise. I also love the voice over more than in front of the camera talking about whatever. If you made more like this I would make a playlist and watch it on repeat.

It's so much fun to watch these, and see a well-loved handheld (with Pokemon stickers!) receive a new lease on life.

This makes me want to bust out my childhood DS and make me appreciate it some more. But I'm glad to see videos like these, super low energy and gentile, but also combining hobby interests with recycling and upcycling.

Really nice job. I retrobrite'd the SD flap on my Wii several months ago as it had turned an off-shade of yellow. It went back to brilliant white and I was chuffed. - 4 weeks later, it returned to it's yellow colour.

I appreciate this video, because this is exactly what i like to do. Since i don't trust my repairing abilities, when i'm trying to get good deals on consoles (or other old tech, like iPods), i'm looking for filthy, but fully operational ones, disassemble to the last screw, clean them and reassemble. It's ultimate satisfaction.

I still have my Ds lite , It was my First console and its still working still It got some issues with the upper screen . So many hours and days passed with the DS so this restoration gives me so many Memories 😢
