If your Tera pump fails to start, read this before blowing your fuse!!! (and after checking out your batteries…) After being stored for about 6 months, I put fresh batteries in my Tera pump TRFA01 to find out that it failed to run. I thought the electronics and/or the motor had died, even though it had been used only twice! I refrained myself from smashing it up against the wall… Then I told myself that if it was such a bad product, there must be some saying about it on the web… I looked and found out that many people have had the same issue. But it appears that you can easily bring it back to life by simply wiggling the blue, rotating part at the bottom of the pump (I mean no disrespect but the pump is actually the cylinder that gets inserted into the fluid, not the thingy holding the batteries ;-P). I don’t know if the gasoline is eating at these cheap plastic parts and causing them to seize together, or if wiggling it allows to reset a sensor or something; but as soon as I touched that silly blue part, the pump came back to life and has been operating just fine ever since. I suspect This will have to be redone after each storage. Especially seasonal/longer term storage. To be noted that I remove the pump from the canister before storing it, as recommended in the manual. I wonder if letting it sit in the gasoline would make matters worse or the contrary… Hoping it helps, and that you don’t have to buy a bucket of glue to put it back together ;-)

I’ve had that pump for a few years and it works great. I never take it off the can and have never had any leaks or problems. Only time it doesn’t work really well is when it’s 20 below 0 and you have the can on the ground and are filling something high above. Also when you have that little bit of fuel left in the hose I just tip the can back a little bit and it drains back into the can.

This is actually VERY timely and good info. My Dad (87 years old) was out in the barn trying to fill the generator and dumped gasoline all over the place almost causing a fire (He was doing it while it was running.) This looks like the perfect solution. I had to go there yesterday and sort out why it wasn't running very well. As soon as it got hot it it would stop.. He thought it was a clogged filter because he was trying to use a sponge to clean up around the fill area, that disintegrated and some fell into the tank. Long story longer, It was a spark plug the plug would stop working when it got hot.

I've had this exact fuel pump for 3+ years. It works great with my mod. I leave it installed in a gas can full-time and have never had problems. And even with the supply gas can (and pump) higher than the filler spout... it still shuts-off proper and doesn't create a siphon. I found the 4 small batteries didn't last long and the pump will just stop working. I bought a dual D-size battery holder... and wired this into the pump (where small batteries go) and duct-taped it to the top of the battery compartment. With 2 D-size batteries, this pump runs forever. I finally had to change the batteries after over a year. Great for filling jetskis and boat... with no spilling. Would buy again. Cheers!

awesome Cheez - I'd second the suggestions - if you could keep it connected to the supply can and a bit longer hose - I'd buy one to fill my lawn tractor where holding those 5 US Gallon cans at an awkward height is a pain. I'm a bit luckier than some where I have good old fashion nozzles that don't have the safety no tip/spill stuff on them (and when I go to fill them up at the station I've had offers to buy them ;-) )
@MotoCheez

@youtuuba

Scotty in Ohio, you CAN leave this pump in the 'can' all the time, the instructions say so. MotoCheez just said he did not do so because he thought it would spill when he moved the attached gas can. For a relatively stationary setup, especially for storage, you don't need to remove this pump from the fuel can.

I use one of those clear hoses with the marble in it at the end. It is a syphon hose they sell them on E-bay, Amazon, Harbor Freight, and many other auto parts stores around the world. they are typically less than $10 all you do is put the metal end with the marble in it and shake it fuel comes up the hose and will not back flow into what ever it is you are pulling the fuel from. It also affords you the ability to actually pull gas from a vehicle not just from a can.
@youtuuba
@youtuuba Год назад
Duck Man, you are describing a self-priming siphon hose. It is not really comparable to this product being reviewed, and since it works by siphoning, it cannot transfer fuel upwards.

Price point is a stinger compared to the hard piped inlet version, it would definitely be worth it if it would get all the way down to the bottom of a vehicle's gas tank. But then again the corrugations would get stuck on the vehicle's flapper thing. I do like that it doesnt require the use of big ole D or C batteries like the hard piped version, those batteries are expensive to replace, esp if you only use the thing once a blue moon... {{My 73 grand am starts ok, it being carbureted has her tendencies on cold start up, but I also still think the float or mech. pump is letting fuel leave the supply line as she sits.
