JUNK MOTOR! No oil pressure! MAJOR REGRETS?! 

Contrary to popular belief, most of us don't like to see you suffer Dan! We like it when you SUCCEED! PEACE ✌️

In the last 12 years I've picked up as many LS engines, a couple 4.8's and the rest 5.3's. Anything under 150,000 and if it spins it wins. I always at least after a borescope inspection, pull the valve and cam covers. They all get a new Melling oil pump and pickup O ring, Cloyes timing set and the rockers pulled with a full inspection of the push rod ends and rocker cups. I have never pulled a set of rockers that didn't have at least 3-4 bad rockers and pushrod tips. I call them footballed, the pushrod stops spinning and the rocker cup and the pushrod tip wear and look like a football. New, lightweight pushrods are cheap, so are new rocker bodies, they get a full roller or bushing kit and sometimes a set of LS6 springs, every engine. $500 in parts and gaskets is cheap insurance. I prelube my engines with a Home Depot bucket with a $25 12vdc RV diaphragm water pump on top from Scamazon. I have a line and fitting that connects to the main gallery oil plug so you just turn on the pump, and spin the engine over with a ratchet until all the oil is pumped in and thru the system. Never had a bad one and I keep a couple around, at least one bone stock longblock and I will cam one with a Sloppy Stage 2 cam (Elgin 1840p) for the hot rodders good for over 425hp. Lately I've been running them off a carb, at least the last 4 with everything from a Holley 570 Truck Avenger or Edelbrock to the last 5.3 I did with a Q Jet. Frankly I can't tell the difference between that and fuel Injection after warm up but the carbs are way cheaper even after a manifold and MSD box and there is no jacking around with a high fuel pressure fuel system and my friends like them because they understand the carbs. Winner, Winner. BTW, thanks for the tip on the injectors.

I always preferred regular mechanical oil pressure gauges. On my idiot light cars, I used to put a tee in where the sender went so I could keep the idiot light and have a mechanical gauge as well. Lol, last one I did was about 35 years ago or so though, so things might have changed a lot! 🤣

Hey Dan, I recently purchased from Amazon a fairly inexpensive device known as a Godiag GT103 that makes checking and internal cleaning of fuel injectors real simple . It's also if a man is smart enough to figure it out a fantastic device for finding electrical shorts, and various electrical issues. I think you and lots of the followers would like having one of the Godiag models in your arsenal of tools.

Change the o ring on the oil pump, I’ve seen a ton go bad and drop oil pressure

I finally got my first 57, wanted one my whole life. After 7 months it's running, driving, stopping. I am however chasing a hesitation under load issue. My point is this hobby will kick you in the balls every chance it gets, and it is comforting to watch you suffer as well. Dan a little info for you. LS motors run a 210 degrees. Also you need a fan shroud. No shroud it will have issues. Also the oil sending unit they go bad. And Dan you have had a lot of wins.

Dan. I had a 2000 silverado with a 5.3L that had evap canister tsb. It would freeze the canister, and the charcoal would come apart and settle in the fuel rails. I had to clean the injectors AND the rails. They were full of shumtz! I hope those rails don't have crap in them....

Dan you need to go to princess auto and buy a tool cart to toss all your crap on instead of in the floor 😂

Good job D&D on my 5.3 the psi pegs 80 all the time but once in awhi 39:16 le it'll drop to 0 psi then jump back up to 80 psi warm cold 20w 60w no difference idle or 90 mph !!! Those psi sending units are notoriously problematic !!!😮 Flat black 👍 👍

I hope everything works out great! Every once in awhile you get an LS engine that wont cooperate no matter what you do! Sometimes they get it figured out and sometimes they don't. I hope you get it straightened out! 🤞😬

I was just reading about bad oil filters, maybe you got a plugged one. Don't rule it out, could happen. Great work Dan, your the man! Filter is cheap! and change or test the oil sensor.

Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.😮 Been there too.

Check with Brent -Halfass kustoms. Those LS senders are always trouble . He saves the old ones and welds on a regular fitting for a mechanical gauge. My sons Tahoe has had 2 go bad. Oil pump pickup o-rings are troublesome too.

Dan, a guy I work with cleans all his injectors from his junkyard engines in an ultrasonic bath. I’m not sure what liquid he puts in it though. I’ve used Mr. Clean full strength to clean parts and also used Simple Green. The Simple Green, I found leaves a film on parts though.

From my view it looked like you were shooting the injector at the battery post you were tapping the wire on.. Was waiting for flame thrower mode lol... Congrats on the new place btw.. Home 2👍👍

Maybe you should give up on the soulless (as you called them) LS motors and use a good old Chevy small block with a carb. I'm old.

LS motor OEM part oil pressure sending units are known to fail.

Dan, I have run into this many times. The screen under the oil pressure sensor gets dirty and then the sensor cannot read the pressure correctly. I usually put 1/2 a quarter of granny fluid in the pul run it for a few minutes and then change the oil.

Depending on what your Holley system is expecting for oil pressure it may be reacting to somewhat normal 6.0 LS pressure. The 6.0 in my Chevy Express van always ran what I would call low. Between 25 to 40/45. Looking this up online I found it reported to be normal for this engine. But yes it could also easily be the oil pump or o-ring at the pump pickup.

Hey Dan i would want to check fuel pressure on that... And as far as oil pressure goes lift up the oil pressure switch and check the screen

The key for me is to find a running rusted out donor. That way you know roughly what to expect after the surgery.

Dan just screw a mechanical oil pressure gauge into it and see what the actual pressure is. No guessing is required then. Great job figuring the injectors out!

If it has no oil pressure it will sound like a loud sewing machine. Did you prime the oil pump after changing the pan and pickup tube? It’s easy just funnel oil into the plug below the alternator at the front corner of the block, roll the motor over a couple times by hand then start it

If you're selling it, put the small block in it with a carb.... Let it goooo...... :)

Before condemning the engine, change the oil pressure sender (6.0 usually has no screen under it). But the oil pickup o-ring is a known failure point, and you've got an engine with unknown history. Yeah, its work to drop the pan, but so is pulling the engine.

Sound was great today, both ears all the way. Dan could have held the injector test closer to his microphone.

The way u loosened the oil filter and cranked the motor to check oil pump is what a novice will appreciate.
