I had A Festiva. I traveled and put many miles on it . I kept the oil changed and serviced it myself and never had a single problem with it. They should still make cars the reliable.
I loved my festiva. Awesome gas milage. I wish I had another one. Only problem is finding tires that size. I really miss it. Its also fun to drive believe it or not.
I am old now...but my first new car was a 1990 Festiva...$7,000 out the door!...I drove it for five years, and over 90,000 miles-no trouble!...Then, I traded it in. As fate would have it, an uncle of mine, who I had not seen in several years, bought my Festiva off the used car lot! Over a million folks live in this area--what are the odds of that happening?...Anyway, he proceeded to drive that car for another 130,000 miles...until one day he passed out, hit a telephone pole, and trashed the car. He survived. That Festiva never got less than 42mpg when I owned it. Incredible durability for the money!...But nowadays, I would never own a small car!...Most cars now on the road, are larger SUVs and Trucks...I always worried about getting T-boned by another car, even back in the 1990s. No airbags in those Festivas, and the bodies were kinda flimsy. Over the years, whenever I start to brag about my Festiva, people like to correct me, saying that I actually owned a "Fiesta"!...lol. BTW, the Festiva was a car that used Mazda parts, was assembled in Korea, and then badged and sold as a "Ford" product!!! The dealer I bought the car from, tried real hard to "upsell" me into a Ford Escort...so glad I stuck with the Festiva. I have not seen one on the road here in the Seattle area, in maybe 10 years.
Clean it up and get it back to an everyday driver. That’s what reviving a vehicle is all about. I’m tired of seeing good old cars go to waste. Bring on the revival!
Back in the very early 90s my friend's mom had one of these. She drove it from Atlanta to Galveston, Texas. Drove it for 4 years while she was here for med school and then drove it back to Georgia the last time I saw it. We went everywhere and that thing. The back seat was small even when I was 12 years old but I don't think it ever broke down and I know she could fill it up for 10 bucks
my friends dad had one that he dogged the hell out of. the e brake quit working, the transmission was stuck in drive, it would go into neutral. so you started in neutral and had to park in a spot you could pull out of.
I enjoy how passionate and knowledgeable you are about these Festivas, because people look at me strangely for how passionate and knowledgeable I am about 82-94 Cavaliers. Rock on dude!
I remember those cars from back in the day! I was in high school when that car was new, so being an inexpensive new car, some of my classmates drove them. They are cute and quant from a nearly 35 year retrospective. I wish I had more good to say about them! I believe they were made for Ford by Kia, back in the dark days of Kia … before being bought by Hyundai. I would imagine that parts would fairly tough to find for them now. Most disappeared from the roads a long time ago. Please don’t drive cars down the road at 40 mph plus with no brakes! If someone or someone’s child just happened to step out into the road ahead of you, two lives could end that day!
Oh yes my buddy had one back in high school! We removed the air intake assembly and air filter, just leaving the metal bowl, lid and snorkel. Then we cut off the muffler! We ran the crap out of that little car and it was an absolute trooper! It never quit😂💪😎
Oh my god I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. I love these cars so kuch we had several when I was growing up. So fun foot to the floor everywhere just to go lol only quit driving it when the front main was leaking more than a quart to get to the nearest gas station. Couldn’t find an affordable way to fix it back then
Went with my dad to test drive one of these when they just came out. He also went and test drove a Subaru Justy. So what does end buying? A Yugo! It actually turned out to be a good car though never gave him any problems. I guess they made one that was ok lol.
Such great little cars. Well put together & designed. Shows that you don’t need a big-ass truck to get around! I miss my ‘89 that I had 26 years ago. Did great until I hit a deer 😢
This video has more views than all of your other videos combined. This is definitely a keeper. Next vid needs to be full exterior and interior cleaning and drivers seat replacement. Then third video, paint those wheels, do brake job, and replace tires. Then timing belt and full engine maintenance. I had a 1989 Festiva in bright red back in the 1990s. It was about 6 years old and had 148k miles on it when I bought it. Had no a/c so I had Ziebart put in a moonroof. Drove that beast all over the place. Was a great car and 45 mpg. The interior and exterior cleaning will be such a satisfying transformation.
Way back when... I snagged me a Ford Aspire... which is basically this car. Snagged her for $100... all I had to do MECHANICALLY was put brakes on her and tires. One HELL of a deal... nevermind the fact that I had to clean the hell out of the inside due to the fact the previous owner hauled handscaping around in it and the red paint on the outside was so faded it was pink. BUT... for what the previous owner used it for I can't fault 'em for that. 5 speed. No power ANYTHING (including steering)... but I couldn't argue with damned near 50MPG. I legit MISS that car... I fondly call it the "Dink Mobile"... but for in town driving it did what it needed to do.
My mom had a Mazda 121 1989 i think, and thats the exact same thing really. and she drove that every where for 17 years with almost no issues. i have allot of memories in the back of one of those.
Reminds me of my old Metro, loved those tiny little economy cars from back then they were just the most fun you could have for the price! Hope to see this one revived to somewhat less moldy status lol
The Metro was the lightest car on the road back then...and the 3cyl engine models could get over 50mpg on the freeway. But they also lead in the "death trap" category--more deaths per accident than any other car. I laugh at the newer "Smart Car" models!..Seating only for two, and the mpg is not anywhere near 50+mpg...then again, they are claimed to be a "safe" small car.
My dad was obsessed with these cars. I thought he was crazy when i was younger. Now, as an adult, i get it. He gave me his first one (1990) to move to Florida with. It had 360k miles on it, original engine and transmission. Still got 40+ miles to the gallon. Amazing cars.
I always liked the look of these cars especially in darker colors. I saw a guy spin the front tires pulling out of a tire store. He really got on it. I can’t remember these are the ones built by Daewoo for Ford or the Fiestas.
Here from the fb group brother this video is badass 😎 we need more people to put out content on fixing and working on festivas it’s so hard to find videos to help you out if you’re trying to work on it yourself to gain knowledge.
Man, my first car was a 90 Feista and it was a great car. A/C, 5 speed, and 38 mpg and 12” wheels. I bought it for $800 because they thought the motor was “knocking” and gonna blow up. It was a collapsed lifter and I pulled it off and apart, primed it and put it back together. It stopped clacking 30 seconds after cranking it up. 👍
I watched a video yesterday of a guy making fun of 8 track’s during his revival. Today cassette’s and in 5 years will be CD’s! 💿 Kids of his age will be laughing at how they could only put 12 songs on a delicate shiny disc, drop it on the gravel once and it’s toast! When Now they can put thousands of songs on a micro SD card, have it categorized too!
I owned a 1993 FESTIVA like 12 years ago that I bought for $500 . the main issue I had was finding tires for it . they are size 12 , very hard to find. I loved that car, very roomy . I was getting 52-54 MPG. kept it for a year then sold it for $800 . I miss my little "ZAPATO" ( shoe ) that's how I named it.
We used to pick up my friends festiva and carry it off and hide it from him . One person on each wheel well. You can also put a small dugout in the steering wheel in the center
I really wish i could find a rust free 88 or 89 LX 5 speed (with no sunroof) and gray interior. My mother had a red 88 LX 5 speed (got T-boned in 92 or 93). Loved that little car, learned to drive in it. Most of them you can find anymore are absolute rust.
@@crewcabdart I don't use Facebook anymore so Facebook marketplace is out of the question for me. I would have to stick to searching on Google or somewhere else.
B series motors are well made!! B3-B6-B6T- BP!!! My current 1989 BF chassis 2 door hatchback Mazda 323 has 380k the gearbox is made from glass 😂 4 speed life
I drove several of the Festivas in the past and there great cars. There Kia cars made for Ford. I even saw the Kia version down in Costa Rica back in 2001!
Bro I am 6'6" and could fit me, three other guys, my 26" ten speed behind the back seat, (with the wheels off) and towing a 1959 runabout. (welded a hitch right to the bumper) slide the cover off and cut a hole for the mount slide thru the cover on then put the ball on. great car all galvanized they won't rust. kick panels treated to prevent rock chips got 47 miles to the gallon their mazda engines built in Korea, they stopped making them because you couldn't kill them, only reason i don't still have mine is i crashed it by accident would make a good daily driver
Had 2 coworkers buy Festivas new in the late 90's. The only option they got was A/C. No radio. I put one in for them. Think they were only like $7k out the door. Pretty sure they got their money out of them. One fella drove his for like 10 years.
@@crewcabdart At the time, I don't think so. A/C is a must in Texas, no radio, 5 speed manual, 12 inch tires. It was around 97-98 when they bought them. Amazingly the speaker location was pre wired, the doors probably were as well, but they didn't want to chop up the doors to install them. To the best of my memory, I believe the back speakers were 5x7, and they were both happy with having something to listen to over the road noise!
I had a 89 Festiva when I lived in swansboro NC it was leaking everything from everywhere lol i couldn't go faster than 30mph going over the bridge to topsail beach it was a smoke show lol only thing that worked was the AC lol
The Fiesta was 10 years earlier, and was made in England mostly, then imported to the USA. Some parts were German. I was an OK car, but not nearly as basic/reliable as the Festiva Was, later on.
Im very surprised it has power mirrors. This was definitely the top-of-the-line Festiva for 1989- MSRP for the 1989 base model was $5,900, this LX was $7,500- roughly $15,000-$19,000 in today’s dollars. And it still has manual windows- but I guess you don’t have to reach far, lol.
Wasn't the Ford Aspire the next generation of Festiva?...I think they used the same engine/transmission. for some reason, people did not take well to the Aspire.

Had my '93 Festy from 1996 to 2016 ...70K to 270 K most reliable car I had ever owned ... tho don't miss the lack of (any) options ..my '02 Taurus Wagon is a Lux car in comparison...
I've always wanted one of these, i still look but man are they expensive for a running driving rig. That interior is looks exactly like my old Mazda 323.
@@crewcabdart I looked after watching your video and the cheapest I found close to me was 800 and it looked like a tree fell on it and had been rolled 33 times. A Nice one is 2200 no joke.
My first thought was.... Ofc, add alot of power, but then , no traction. So my next thought was, tank tracks. Festiva tank. Could be fun, for me though not you.
@@crewcabdart ive seen it done at least a few times. Theres some random kits made for random applications. Even amazon has some universal kits for $250 but i think you would need 3-4? Of those for it to be worthwhile. So $1000+ additional to hook them together but it could work. Imagine that festiva with tank tracks lol.
Be careful when pulling e brakes on cars you're not familiar with. They like to stick if they don't get used often, especially if they've been sitting for a while. Neat little car, just needs some TLC.
Excellent vehicles. Made by Mitsubishi. Just don’t get in a head on accident. One of two things will happen: You’ll either flip the other party or the engine will come through the firewall and kill you instantly. Normally the latter. Unless they were corrected in the years going forward
@@curbozerboomer1773 Wasn’t that the aspire that was made by Kia? I’m talking the early festivas when I said Mitsubishi. I could have sworn that the 82 I wanted was Mitsubishi made could have been Mazda all I know is it was Japanese lol But that was back in ‘98 a lot has happened since than so freaked if I remember.
Install a new battery. Check for drain using a DVOM. Take the plugs out and pour Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders to remove rust. Let it sit. Crank the engine around to remove the Marvel Mystery Oil with the plugs out. Pour gas down the carburetor. Put Gumout in the tank. See if the choke is closed.
There was a little strange lookin man driving one of these in my town up until a little while ago. It was like showroom condition. Not sure what happened to it. Possibly wrote it off hitting a chipmunk
