Why there are no Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads in the junkyard. Tig welding & Bridgeport mill machining engine cases for a new life. #hd #billylane #madeforthis #northerntool #nte
I'm an old guy and all you hear now a day's is about how all the skilled craftsmen are gone and nobody cares. You really put that myth to bed. Thanks, I really enjoyed that!
@@BillyLaneChoppers Your are the one who got me to go to school Graduated Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Late/Early model Harley Davidson Honda Universal Technical institute Automotive technology 2 I know it's not enough it takes years of experience and wrenching plenty of people will say negative things about MMI I also planning on going to college for Mechanical engineering and specializing in Automotive I want to thank you for the inspiration to learn and get the basic foundation to start with appreciated all the chopper build you did on TV really did go to school because of you and Indian Larry
I've been watching this guy for years, from biker build offs to content like this.. as a mechanic and a novice machinist, all I can say is max respect for Billy and for this job.. fixing something is one thing, but this is next level. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
@BillyLaneChoppers you're welcome sir. You payed me a large compliment by replying. I appreciate that. Keep building the coolest bikes out there ma . 👍👍👍
Billy you are definitely the Doctor Frankenstein of the motorcycle world brother. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see what you show us next unbelievable. You take care and stay safe my brother.
Amazing work Billy! Your idea on keeping the castings bolted together really paid off! Every welder knows how hard it is to work on cast metals! I really hope the next generation takes heed to all your knowledge and your skills! Great job!!!
I am a complete noob to machining, but man to see you explain the process and the tooling. I would have thought that was a total loss. What is this planet going to do when there are no more men left to do this kind of heavy lifting.... great work!
Who is gonna fill their Boots..if we are smart enough to ask it…speaking only for myself…It’s time to connect the dots of what I’ve been shown…and start mentoring what I know..to a Kid….there is a hunger out there for Skill set Knowledge….unfortunately it’s post 30 and pre 17…..The TikTokr will pay severely for a skill set they mock…or..rely on Socialist Marxist Gov to get it for free…🤷♂️FJB
Can't you leave your damn politics out of this. I watch this channel to learn and leave all the bullshit behind just like when I'm riding. My father was an aerospace machinist (Rocket Research) and watching Billy helps me understand what his life was like. @@user-se5zz3yj9c

@@horseshoemountainprojects8144 turns out I’m pretty dang lucky, for all that good advice, those hard to find words of wisdom, hold up here in my mind, and just when I lost my way, or I’ve got too many choices, I hear voices, I hear voices.. May WE be a voice of TRADES and SKILLS that give many help, service, and in return live a life where every sense was enabled, LOVED and CUSSED, satisfaction of getting a job done and a living to be Thankful for👊🇺🇸👊
Billy these videos are a window into your world and its like watching a master at work. Your knowledge and talent is seemingly endless and I for one am incredibly thankful to you for sharing your skills knowledge and artistry.
Man, if I hadn't seen that with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it! Those cases were junk! And you fixed that huge window in them, brought them back to life!!!
Great video! Concise explanations before the actual operation, no blah blah talk like some other other you-tubers. To bad there aren’t too many others that can do this type of work.
Man Billy, we have missed you on TV sharing your knowledge of motorcycles and how they work. Wish they would put you back on TV, until then thanks and God bless you my friend!!!!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together Billy! What an amazing process from a true craftsman. I can’t even imagine how much time you have in this repair, but that old knuckle being back together for another generation or two to appreciate is priceless!
Practical skills never die, you can tap coarse emory sand paper stippling on fresh weld to get close to factory or rough diamond dremel tip. Thanks for taking the time to film,
I remember watching Billy in biker build off yearssss back. Glad to see he’s still putting in work with the metal. always such a cool dude and amazing work 💪💪
Amazed by your work. I just saw you Jessie, and Paul Senior are going to do a show together. I look forward to becoming a member. If I had to summarize your philosophies, it would be this- The three of y’all are tasked with building a bracket. Billy jumps in the dumpster, finds a piece of metal and says I can make this work, massages the metal and does so. Jessie says I will forge it from scratch and does so. Paul Senior says let me call XXXXXX company. He owes us a favor. We will get him to build the bracket. And he does so. In the 321. Remember your shop on US-1. Thanks for doing us proud! 👍
Bro your really the man , I don’t know anyone who would consider doing that so confidently. I think it’s just awesome to see someone just in and is not scared to just go for it! Your a master craftsman for sure!
That’s one excellent repair, great video, I was always told cases were never repairable, you’ve definately proved everyone wrong. Gotta find right person. !!!
I’ve learned more from your genius and superb craftsmanship than other builder! Thank you sir for sharing you knowledge and super talent! Your my hero dude !!!!!
My guy, you ain’t lying! I’ve never built a bike, (I would love to) but builders like lane are who inspired me to metal fab, and build custom cars. It’s been around seven years since my last build considering that life got in the way, but after stumbling across a 67 mercury Monterey two door I think it’s time to start getting back into the hobby.. I didn’t know I how much I missed it, until I laid eyes on this beauty in the backyard of a house I was working on and didn’t even think the lady would say yes when I offered to buy it, but fortunately she did, and it will be named after her. “Debb”
This is like watching a doctor operating on a patient with the utmost patience using the knowledge of a master that is only granted to one through time. Paging Dr. Lane. Awesome video dude, thanks.
Billy and Larry are on another level of skill and ingenuity that are an artform of vision that so rare!!! Godspeed Billy, RIP Larry, bikeriders of the highest level!!!!!
Brilliant stuff. So well narrated also. You always know when people really know what they’re talking about when you don’t get all the unnecessary bullshit. Nice one Billy 👌
Patience, Persistence and Perseverance truly does pay off. Beautiful job Bill. Lots of hours work but the end result I think is worth the effort. Me I really appreciate the ideal that if someone made it in the first place, it can be repaired. Period!
No words man. You are the real deal. Watching you do this stuff still blows me away, and I've been following ya since the build off day. Amazing talent.
I lost my dad 1 week ago. . . He was an mod engineer and watching your video brought back great memories of watching his work just like you. I have great respect for engineers . . .the time , effort and years of experience and knowledge is too overlooked for those who say "can you just do this " or " why is it taking so long" or "how much ? " beautiful work billy.
Billy you are one of the most talented individuals I have ever seen. I've never seen anyone attempt to do that let alone make it come out looking as if it never happened you have skills that are very rare.
That was a phenomenal displacement of a art , welding , and machines at work. After all these years it's obvious the love you have for bikes and what you do.. It's pretty amazing to get watch you work and explain every detail. I am not a machines . But pretty sure your the only one that could pull that off. God Bless man and keep up the good work
As an 19 year old I landed my first real job at Bethlehem steel company. After awhile of being brutalized into the trades I was assigned light duty work maintaining a stress relief machine way out in the giant machine shop where they machine ship propeller shafts. Using induction coils they would heat the screw end and relieve the stress and arc weld and fill the grooves . They would gantry the shafts to a huge lathe and turn the shaft down to smooth and re machine for prop placement. I loved to watch the blue coils peel off onto the floor as I smoked a joint. I love to watch you work the impossible as well. By the way, I’m 64 now.
nothing short of amazing! love the innovation and "never a job to big enough" attitude! you truly are talented and hardworking person Billy! too sad that this generation is loosing this.. keep on inspiring!.
Thank you Billy. I just started riding my trike in Dec 2023. In March of 2024 I got my leg infected due to diabetes. Got an amputation now on my leg and I'm in rehab for that currently. Watching your videos makes me feel like I'm riding again. Thank You so much my friend 💯
Great GREAT video showing a master class level of expertise. As much as watching you work is educational, your detailed explanation is profoundly enlightening. "This is a casting. And welding is just casting done without a mold."
Always loved your work. Shook your hand and spoke with you for a few minutes many years ago near Daytona. Its great to see you doing your thing again and sharing your knowledge. Godspeed, Brother.
10 seconds into the video and I already know why there isn't any of those in the junks anymore. The answer is (during my lifetime anyway) because there never was any and if their ever was I'm sure it sold for $$$$$. Used Harley's (and used parts) fall into the same category as Corvettes and Porsche's. Everyone thinks what they are selling is somehow more special than any other (sometimes it is) and they want way, way, way to much money for what they have. I seen a AMF sportster that was literally in box's with missing parts and it was like $5000.00. Insane. Love the channel Billy
Amazing work. Currently rebuilding my 99 Dyna after a close encounter with an 18-wheeler. Inspiring to watch a legend like Billy Lane take what is usually scrap and resurrect the legendary Harley-Davidson Knucklehead.
I've done heavy construction most of my life and nothing in shop impresses me more than a great welder it's such a fine art requires a keen eye and steady hand. Much respect beautiful work.
@BillyLaneChoppers And dude I was a teenager in the 90s I remember when I saw that chopper with the hub less rear tire it was just bad ass. The 90s was the best time to grow up today is just a shadow if that. Anyway be safe and again impressive work.
Wow! I had no idea if that was even repairable, but the way you did it was amazing. I'm not a machinist; just very interested in how it's done; I watch a lot of machine work videos where you can always learn something.
