@@theinimitablejora522 It’s an echo of Cloud’s conversation with Tifa in Kalm. Cloud learned from that experience to never doubt your closest friends. Then he went and shared that lesson with his troops. Beautiful game. 🥲
But he didn't share that lesson with his troops. They came to him and said they would escort him since they didn't know who the fugitive was. @@grapespace
The way Cloud makes a self-satisfied little smile when he knows he absolutely landed the Dolphin jumped is perfect. That and his self-satisfied chuckle when he confirms that everyone saw his sick stunt.
@@andrewrenshaw2741 I thought Hojo was gonna give him S cells. I still like what they did though, really just shows that all the robes were once high class SOLDIERs full of personality. Like Cloud.
I swear the NPCs have so much goddamn charm! I hope the 7th division becomes the crew of the Airship in the future. Because I don’t want them to die ;_;
You know this game is masterfully written when Square made me care and *cry* about 5 unnamed troopers who should by all accounts, be your enemy. I miss my boys ;_;
For sure. It got very dark for a second though with Cloud just in a instant willing to kill them. Which I think might be some foreshadowing. But who knows.
I love the bit at the end because I refused to let them die. Those guys were my homies. They trusted me over their own friends, and didn't know much about what was going on. Only "Keep my captain safe." The fact that they were so proud of getting the commend and stuff. It was a good time.
2:08:00 It's a much more important part than it seems. Cloud never reached a high level as a soldier... That's his gang, that's his guys, those are the guys he probably dealt with before going to Nibelheim... It was his childhood dream to be a soldier like Sephiroth...
@@MaxBraver555Have you played the original game, or do you know what Cloud’s arc is all about. If you don’t then I won’t spoil it for you but just know that classes of SOLDIER aren’t just titles, as SOLDIER members move up the ranks, they get injected with more JENOVA cells and are bathed in more mako which powers them up more Being a 1st is more than tactics, only the strongest people can become a first and handle it.
Yeah, that was unlucky, if only he'd talked to Red first and then everyone else. I don't want to backseat but I'm also noticing how he doesn't usually interact with characters multiple times to exhaust their conversations and it's driving me a bit nuts lol
He also missed the funny Cloud wiggles which you can get by walking to the front of the ship at the yoga group, had me laughing my ass off first time I saw it 🤣
I love it to. Like red and the way he rides Chocobos. They just embraced the silliness, and I'm so glad they did. Every scene with Red has put a smile on my face. Even small interactions. *MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW, END GAME* Like earlier in this video look at his reaction to children wanting to pet him etc. He's super stand offish. Compare that to his reaction at 2:14:03 (serious props to the animators and the quality of the char models etc etc). Indulging them, gently raising his paw when the one kid goes to grab it. Or a little later (watched the twitch VOD) Barrett asks who wants to have fun at the Gold Saucer and Red reluctantly raises his paw and says "me", then Yuffie actually pets him and calls him a good boy, and he reflexively smiles and enjoys it. My point is Red is to god damn cute. And I can't wait for Cosmo Canyon. Adding this later obv. but, I also wanted to add that Red is just such an easy to like char as well. Not just "cute". He's always supportive, concerned about his friends, like when Aerith notices her Holy Materia is empty and he suggests hanging out with Tiffa to "brighten her spirits" or of course at the very end him comforting Tiffa. They all hurt, but Red's "trial" scene just makes me look forward to the death of Hojo even more. Seeing a "cute animal" being tortured is obviously an easy way to tug at the heart strings, but again knowing just how good of a person Red is and seeing him tortured like that (and knowing that was just the first thing Hojo did to him) makes it hurt more than just "cute animal being hurt". At least to me. Makes me look forward to Hojo's death even more (on top of everything he did to Aerith and her mother etc etc no matter how he dies it will be too good for him). He has a line at Corel prison that stuck with me, when all the other party members are locked up he says something along the lines of "out of one cage and into another but at least this time I'm not alone".
@@nathanking5137I already know about it. Spoilers below! I assume you mean him using his "real" voice (which was hinted at in Costa del sol) and hiding how young he is from the party. I know his voice changes. It's the same voice actor to be clear. I've heard that the VA for Red has a natural voice that is closer to Red's "natural" or young voice. I only watched like 30 seconds from the Cosmo Canyon cutscene (where Red howls at his father). He is using his regular voice their, and I don't hate it. We will see how I like it after hearing it more though.
I came down here in the comment section looking for exactly this comment and I wasn't dissapointed. How did he missed that obviously chest sitting there right in front of him 🤣
@@VideoStalker00Steamer curse I guess, wanting to keep the steam's pace and people's attention leads to horse blinders situation like this. Good thing he can at least buy it later.
@@VideoStalker00You know, I would almost say it was pretty excusable to miss that chest...had Max not gone to purchase items from the vending machine, which allowed the game's camera to zoom in/focus on both Cloud AND the clearly purple glow of the weapon chest directly behind him.
And it's actually a comment from Aerith of all people multiple times. She seems to be the top one to comment about how not all Shinra is bad if there's ever going to be such a discussion.
It’s a really good thematic choice, but it makes a lot of the gameplay feel kind of weird. We slaughter these guys with reckless abandon. I get that if they attack us it’s fine to fight back, but most of the time they’re just guarding a facility. They may have humanized them too much. The Dyne chapter especially. Where we’re trying to prove Barrett didn’t kill those ppl, but we slaughter the troopers looking for Dyne because he’s our buddy’s old friend? It’s a great scene, but idk. I have a storytelling pet peeve of when the heroes wipes out henchmen but spares the boss. Still, incredibly great Stuff with the seventh infantry in Junon.
@@Kanriel cloud's also had a few moments of standing up for shinra grunts, even back in rebirth. It's part of what makes that bit in the gongaga reactor later where he kills that one defeated trooper in cold blood especially unsettling, imo.
I'm considering that bar scene a shoutout from the dev team to everyone in their mid-30s like me who grew up playing the original, and who has, in recent years, been hit hard by the thinning-hair-and-going-bald stick. Thank you FF7R team - I feel seen.
Wow, that didnt even occur to me. How nice of them, if that is the case! I most definetly still don't have the blonde mane I had back in -97! Rocking a big beard now though! 💪
That has started for me the past two years ...didn't think I would care about hair until it started going away..oh well, I'll just shave it a off like my dad.
@@adhirg I honestly didn't know you could cure them when I played, but I did hit them with soothing breeze, I thought I was getting around some game mechanics doing so lol
This game does the impossible. By making you care about npcs, you would have otherwise killed. Never in my wildest dreams did i expect Square to outdo the original in every imaginal way.
@@Jammineyeonline yeah it helps so much that the original team in charge of the game is doing this. They know what they originally wanted to do but couldn't because of tech, and they're joined by some kids who grew up playing ff7. It's a perfect combination to create an amazing remake.
Important notes to add to that: 1) When the lines are almost completely overlapped and beyond it's ironically a "miss". 2) The window for getting a "great" is actually much more lenient than you'd think. //\\ \\// ^ Visual aid to give you an idea as to how lenient it is.
I dreaded trying to ace the performance and focusing on the lines had me go from scrub to 100k+ in about 20 minutes. Still frustrating AF for a twitch reflex gamer like I am and just had to calm down and be patient.
The way I did it was just by hitting the button when the frames of each diamond touch each other. At first I tried to always hit it when the diamonds overlapped because I thought that was how you got a "great". If you do that you actually end up missing the fast ones. Once I realized the window was far more forgiving early wise I just moved my timing earlier. Then I was golden.
The whole Junon part is just Incredible, and then they send you straight into the Shinra 8 sequence which is also Incredible. And then you end up at Costa Del Sol which is also amazing.... Love this game!
Why does Aerith and Tifa look so good in the Shinra uniform?! ❤😂😅 I honestly couldn't stop smiling during the Juno portion...was so good. Everything about it was delightful
@@catzblu999Actually Sora’s own personal backstory is rather simple, but it is the world and other extended character lore that is actually “convoluted”. Sora only a part of that by association.
I first played OG FF7 at the end of 2021, after Remake, and the sheer amount of joy and awe I have experienced playing Rebirth is absurd, I can only imagine what it must be like for those who played it in 1997. It’s almost hard to describe how a game can possibly get you near tears of joy from seeing a lab-rat-dog impersonate a soldier to enter a card game tournament on a cruise ship, but the vibes playing this are almost unlike anything I’ve felt. It’s like Elden Ring but with happiness instead of suffering
"a lab-rat-dog impersonate a soldier to enter a card game tournament on a cruise ship" And this is why I love that the Remake team has embraced the absurdity and took it to eleven. The series does have "fantasy" in its name and it's so cool to see light-hearted hilarious moments take center stage.
I love how the ladies in the bookstore talk excessively about their favorite books. Like its intended for you to be annoyed with how much dialogue they have... really adds a funny touch to the whole Junon experience making it feel more alive.
3:11:32 Seriously, this feels almost exactly like a time where me and my friends walked back to our cars/hotel room when we were traveling, already reminiscing about things that had just happened. It was really special to have that kind of cathartic feeling with the FF7 crew. It’s like Max said, this game just keeps on giving, in every way.
It really does keep on giving and giving. I find myself so many times with a silly grin and tears of pure joy and nostalgia running down my face. NO game has ever done that to me before. I am so damn grateful Square didnt fuck this up.
@@jerrytruckn It’s not some masterclass moment in writing and game design, but it’s a nice enough moment that it’s worth mentioning. They could have just faded to black at some point but instead had some nice music kick in and the characters to have a moment.
I was starting to get freaking upset and worried that Red XIII was not going to show up in the uniform and then he popped out of nowhere I was so fucking excited 😆😆😆 they did it it was greatness in motion and in Red's Grace with his dance moves.
Years and yeeeears ago I remember people saying the remake would never have the spirit of the original. They'd never have the guts to put goofy shit like Honeybee Inn,Hell house and Red/Barret in Shinra uniforms in the game ... and here we are. They did it
No joke man. I'm near the end of the game, and I'm pretty sure at least 10 of my in-game hours so far have been slowly trodding along on the overworld just listening to all the music goodness in each area. There was even a SIDE QUEST later on in the game, that had two orchestral versions of songs heard NOWHERE else in the game, and they were effing beautiful too. I can't believe how good the music is in this game, it feels like you are listening to a jam session being performed by some of the best musicians in the world...just for you. The seemless overworld to battle themes in each region, and it seems like they have instruments just layer on and off depending on the area of each region you are in. It's just nuts that they went this hard and I love it so much.
The readability of those rhythm QTE minigames is awful in both remake and rebirth. I love them visually but mechanically they're not intuitive at all XD
@@liquidportnoyNah they’re easy as hell. The camera always gives you the info you need at the moment you need it. It’s the anticipation that makes Max fuck up. You just have to trust they’re not gonna block the prompt at the proper time.
@@liquidportnoy Skill issue. I got almost perfect marks on my first try with the hardest setup, just look at the button and when the things around it closes on it. It's meant to be hectic to add difficulty.
@@spiraljumper74 exactly this, the only issue is the player not trusting the game to give him the right timing. When you let the game go through its pace and wait for the obvious moment, you never miss an input
Roche's Voice Actor hits a home run every time he's on screen. And wish they had outfit changes like in 15. Tifa could absolutely rock Lightning's look.
Fun fact... the Shinra choir and brass band music in the background was performed by high school students who placed first in their respective national contests in Japan. And the baldies bar song is performed by the localization team. My uncle who works at Square Enix told me so, trust me (not really but it's from a close enough source)
When tf is part 3 planned for?! I just want to know how long I have to wait 😭 gotta least find that one out if it’s gonna be hijacked for a ps6 title or at the end of ps5 life cycle
@@dawsonslone Long bet would be another 4 years, but there's hope that 3 years or very small chance at 2 years because so much of the world was already made in Rebirth and I don't think there's a whole lot to really need to tweak for combat. So in theory it'll be easier for them to complete Reunion than it was to do Rebirth, but if it's still 4 whole years I'll deal with it because this development team has earned my respect and I'll wait as long as I need to for them to finish this well.
@@Kanrielmaybe it’s because i’m a kingdom hearts fan and used to waiting a million years for a numbered game kh3/probably kh4 im surprised they made this game in 4 years it’s really impressive to me
The fact that you could see the condor from the flight deck just shows how it's all the same open world! Even up in Junon! The fact we are getting 4k 30fps is a miracle!
The more I've thought about the visuals. I'm glad Square didn't bother trying to shoehorn in thigs like RT features etc. Just traditional rendering techniques. Probably helps quite a bit being able to use all of the power for traditional rendering techniques/tricks (like SSR instead of RT reflections). Probably how we can get such large open areas. Plus the time of day being "baked" (other than when you leave a "zone" and come back later sometimes I think). Point being it's not real time, so they can bake things like global illumination etc. Also to anyone that reads this (not saying you), this is NOT UE 5. It's a customized version of the version of UE 4 Remake ran on.
I fuckin’ love how your parade team would comment in unison when you came out of a store. Parade Sergeant: *Damn fine folio you’ve got there Captain!* Parade Team: *CAPTAIN’S FOLIOS ARE SICK AS FUCK, SIR!*
I didnt realise that first squad max talked to on the highwand landing pad was doing the PS1 version of the junon parade. i jus assumed i couldnt walk over to them
This game is a miracle. I get emotional on every turn. I haven't felt like this playing a game in decades. Thank you, Square, for listening to us.. at least mostly.
Yeah you just need to make it the most difficult so every routine is 3 star difficulty and you can make a few mistakes and still win you just can’t have too many
@@TmcJordan Ah. I see. I didn't realize changing your formation also changed your routine until I saw Max's playthrough. I also don't know how Max got so many security officers considering I only got two or three groups of them. I ended up spending over an hour trying to 100% the damn thing. It was all worth it given I didn't have to watch that damn pompadour win.
@@Alassandros fax I know it’s 2 trophy’s you can get one for finding all members of the squad together and another one for winning first place but bruh it feels so rewarding when they call your squads name for the first place win instead of him lmaoo makes you feel like you won as well😂
At least the weapon is not permanently lost. I believe its mentioned early on if you miss a weapon chest, the weapon becomes available in a weapon shop later.
I just finished this exact area too. I lost to Red at cards and you actually increase his mood meter for making him happy! It was sweet to lose to him as well.
I have been watching these playthroughs after getting to the end of the specific chapters just to sort of feel like I’m not alone in seeing how amazing the experience of this game is. It’s like being a kid again. I cannot believe Square was capable of writing and directing at this high a level, even after playing Remake.
I felt just like you did during those scenes! Let out those loud huffs of air, just living in the moments and enjoying such a beautiful story. Brings me back to when I first played it on the PS1 as an import, and had to translate all kinds of Japenese writing back in 97, and follow an online text walkthrough, to get past some of the harder moments. Love how they flushed out the world, characters and all the new music.
I didn't notice this until I got really too baked for my own good, but did you guys notice the Materia and Item shop across the way from the bar Rude goes into has it's old-school final fantasy layout? It has that old-school RPG layout of one giant desk with two merchants selling two separate inventories with item cases along the walls and two giant displays in the center? I love seeing that no matter how far technology advances, old school mapping rules never go out of style.
Man, whenever I see something even slightly purple in the environment, my eyes are drawn right to it in this game, more weapons? Yes please. While I was talking to Rufus the camera showed there was a chest in the back behind him and I was like "oh snap, I'm gonna be opening that in a couple minutes". Just differently wired brains I guess.
Another wholesome episode from Max really do love watching each and every episode of your playthrough fam it just shows how much you love and appreciate the game like all of us 😁 NGL because of Max playing FF7 Rebirth I started playing FF7 OG again haha I'm already headed for Gongaga and eventually Cosmo Canyon next like damn kinda crazy how much this game has that much influence lmao
You can hear the theme from that part in the OG for a sec at 3:02:54 though it's a bit hard to hear over the VA and what not and I don't have a clue what the track is called (on the Rebirth soundtrack).
I got to the Junon part where the March plays, and i've never felt such a powerful moment of pure kid excitement. As someone who went through collegiate music school, hearing a march that is very much meant to replicate a John Phillip Sousa "President's Own" march, and hearing it done so well brought a tear to my eye. I didn't want the segment to end. This is the first moment of the game where I went, "oh shit, they REALLY went all in."
That Red XIII scene at the end of the Queen's Blood tournament was awesome. Would have been a major highlight for me if they hadn't spoiled it in prerelease trailers but ah well.
Then you have learned nothing from square you never watch thier trailers except the reveal trailer, they got a habit of spoling big moments in thier trailers, kingdom hearts fans learned that the hard way. Many moments where in og ff7 but it is cool to see Them recreated, escpcially with how much personality the charercters got.
And that is exactly why I go on a "media blackout" as Max has called it when a game I'm interested in starts getting close to release. I somehow missed that trailer so it was a complete surprise to me.
I looked forward to this part of the game for SO LONG - it did not disappoint!! I loved every second of collecting my loyal troopers and leading them to a high scoring victory. I must have re-played the Junon city portion 3 or 4 times before moving on with the story
The band playing at 57:00 is specifically playing 'The Chase' track from the FFVII Jazz Album that came out in '97....The deep cut. It's on Spotify and I've been listening to it recently, so my ears perked up when I heard it!
2:24:22 damn i got a different line when i played it, red says "I want to speak to your manager" and i thought it was the funniest shit ever im suprised max didn't get it
3:11:50 when I got to this part of the game, I started tearing up. The combination of the soundtrack, and also just hanging out with the whole crew and seeing them bond like that was so beautiful. I really need the soundtrack to be officially released. The music that plays in this entire chapter is drop dead gorgeous
@colinnixon7739 the Rune Blade is the best magic weapon for Cloud in the whole game and teaches you disorder which is a free atb move since it replenishes a full atb when it connects...
When Remake came out I watched your whole playthru before finally being able to get a PS5 and play it myself last year. Now I've sold my PS5 due to the rising cost of living so here I am getting to experience Rebirth through you as well. 😂 Still a great experience getting to watch someone who cherishes the original as much as the majority of us who grew up with it. Keep it up Max!🤘
