Sir you covered just about everything here. The answer I required was about halfway through the video, but I watched till the end anyway. I do that with all your videos. There's always a nugget in there. In UK money it's £82.86, ( as of today 4/9/22 ) that's a bargain sir. I got "Electronics for dummies" by Wiley after watching a load of your videos. I'm hooked now. And yes I miss the 70's too. Thank you sir.

0.01µHz(0.00000001Hz) is great resolution and we didnt see it on video.Can you please show us this resolution steps on for example 10kH frequency?I would like to see how tuning looks like on signal generator screen.And is this resolution available for example on 1MHz output too?

Could we get 4 channels of output with same trigger with 2 of these function generators? Is there an easier way to get 4 channels without a mortgage?

Yes. They accept an external trigger.

Thanks for the great video. I've subscribed. I do have a question, though. If I wanted an output signal of 455KHz with 30% modulation at 400Hz, can this thing do that? I do a lot of tube radio work and alignments often require modulated, AM signals. Can this do that? How would you set it up? I've looked at the instructions and there's no real guidance there. Thanks again for the great video.

I'm down with panel mounting everything, but I'd prefer it all in a nice brushed nickel enclosure with some nice anodized aluminum highlights. As for that short BNC cable, yet another benefit of panel mounting 🤣

I like the compact design of that panel function generator but yeah, a keypad would make it much easier to work with than scrolling all the time. I remember not only television and audio in one wooden console, but a mini bar and fake fireplace with the lightbulb inside the rolling orange barrel. Back when some cars had eight track players in them.

Damn Paul, you sound like me - I miss the 70's and early 80's so much, what a different era we had so much fun no such thing as school shootings and the rock music legends were GREAT-! I dont know what happened to music but its all degenerated to just soulless, thumping distorted bass with no imagination and a serious lack of the great songwriters and players we used to enjoy. Fortunately I still have all my old albums and Harmon Kardon turntable with its 2 pound platter to go with my CD player, both now seemingly out of date but I could care less.

Thanks for the video. I have one of the older generators that you had trouble with in that presentation. Aside from it's own frequency counter mode being somewhat deaf it is a nice little instrument but with limitations. However, it does have a UI that takes some getting used to and the signal generator doesn't have a sync out . It looks like your new one doesn't either? - which is a shame. (can you comment on that?). The UI looks much better on the new unit. Your sine wave looked a lot cleaner than the old sig-gen I have at high output - and they both share the feature of an external 5v power supply. There are other Chinese function generators out there with internal switched mode power supplies that present some nasty voltages on the output. You could conceivably feed your new instrument with DC from a battery for the cleanest of output - but also give portability. Great feature. For the hobby end of the market we have some good choices nowadays. If you think what a hobby heathkit signal generator cost back in the day (comparatively) we are rather spoiled by what we can get now for so little. One final comment. The random noise output feature is often glossed over in reviews such as this - yet a good noise source can be used for RF filter testing. Simple noise generators can be built of course - but they often fall off in output severely over frequency. With the FFT function in your (rather nice) Micsig you could have perhaps shown that output over the frequency spectrum that hobbyists and radio hams commonly play in?
@learnelectronics
@learnelectronics 5 лет назад
Tony, you have some great points. You are right about the lack of a sync input. That is a shame too. I'm not very experienced in the RF side of things. I always avoided it at work and have only really started to get into it since last year. There will be more videos on this unit.
@InteraliaTony
@InteraliaTony 5 лет назад
@@learnelectronics I was surprised that Banggood were charging so little extra for the 40MHz and 60MHz units. It seems silly to contemplate the 15MHz unit. The better models more than cover a "constructing radio ham's" HF requirements. Dave over at EEVBlog shows how to sweep a filter to produce a bode plot and his function generator has an output that triggers his scope [ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMH2hGvqhlE.html] This was what prompted me to ask you that question. But no matter, your review generator is still good value. At a recent visit to Rigol they thrust a Micsig scope into my hands and it was almost love at first sight. I might have weakened there and then if I didn't already have two good 'scopes.

If you are worried about sensitivity and ripple on the signal, buy a $300 Rigol or Siglent or a $900 Keysight. This is stuff is just fine for the home hobbyist.

Worried about the newbies not knowing the importance of a clean signal. I got my HP 3300A function generator for $60 it used to be not working two hours of work searching for the bad capacitors in the power supply it’s a beautiful function function generator. I got my HP 3312a for $85 not functioning it was just a power switch. My HP 8640B Signal generator $160 Nonoperating I fixed it power supply capacitor’s and one broken BNC connector terminal. I’m just learning as a hobbyist for fun. Cannot afford the new expensive digital equipment. Love the classic look of the old analog equipment for a fraction of the price if you’re willing to do a little work to fix them and you end up with lab grade equipment top-notch still to this day.
