Quick demo of the new native sound engine that is available exclusively for Jupiter-X/Xm in O.S. 3.0 update. In this video I'm playing some of the factory scenes that I created exclusively for this amazing instrument.
Built on the classic JUPITER heritage, vintage analog sound has been modernized with new capabilities and creative options.
4 Oscillators with new waveforms, 2 LFOs, 5 Envelopes, Double XMod and Sync options, etc...
A new iArpeggio is introduced, with new patterns and PROBABILITY styles.
O.S. 3.0 also doubles internal memory for user scenes and tones!
Download it for free, following the links below:

I bought my first Roland synth, an SH-1000 in 1982. Since that time I’ve owned the JP8, JP6, Juno 106, JX-8P, Super JX & JD-800. I bought the JPX last year & upon updating to 3.0 two days ago I feel it’s most value of any synth for the price on the market today. I also added the JD-800 expansion so for $2500 total cost I now have access to 7 timeless synths. It’s truly a remarkable instrument!

Nice demo! I got my Xm just a month ago and still on the fence, if I'm going to keep it or not. Did a few sound recreations from sounds I had on my JP08 and while I enjoy the extra polyphony of Xm, I managed to get a rawer sound out of the JP08. Now I kow what I'll be testing tonight! @GreenHoleSun
@GreenHoleSun 4 месяца назад
@@shadowbanned5164 I have never played the hydrasynth. As far as I know it all come to what you need. The hydrasynt is a standalone synth, powerful but limited to 8 note polyphony (if I am not mistaken). It's the right choice if you need a synth to shape sound from scratch. On the other hand the jupiter xm is a synth with different engines, it is more powerful in terms of polyphony and it is multitimbral in different tracks. It has an intelligent arpeggiator and a kind of sequencer: it is aimed to inspire musical ideas on the go which you can then transfer to a DAW and develop in a proper song. Actually it is a very powerful machine, even if I think most people did not fully understand and appreciate his uniqueness...

@@GreenHoleSun At the end of the day I dont need either synth lol it drives the wife mad when I keep adding synths to the pile I can midi chain 10 synths for one hugely stacked sound already...None of them are Rolands and Roland does have a certain sound other synths dont have...Leaning towards the XM just for the classic sounds alone lol
@GreenHoleSun
@GreenHoleSun 4 месяца назад
@@shadowbanned5164 then the xm is the right choice, I suppose. You have different engines from Roland iconic models, but also an engine of its own and many different possibilities: you can stay on the surface and play only the predefined patches with the basic controllers or you can go deeper and build your sounds and musical ideas from scratch. Personally I was intrigued by the idea of all-in-one device which is still portable and don't need any other gear (not even the speakers, since the ones that are built in are quite useable).

I am always fascinated hearing this biased nonsense. I saw them being developed. The differences are minimal at best in application. You people spend all your time moping around playing this, 'it's better than yours' ego in the western world. How almost stereotypical. RnD had numerous units benched at the time. You won't find Sys8 performing in front of nearly 20 thousand people live, as JP-X just did. So give it a rest. It's more than close. To the point the older tech will be scrapped entirely in favor of Zen-C.

Excellent demonstration of the new patch. First place I come to when there's something new from Roland! Quick question, with regards to the new SuperNatural Acoustic Pianos on the Fantom 0 series. Do you know, or had any issue with the keyboard struggling to process what note to hold on after what I assume is the" Voice Reserve "? Came across this issue with holding the damper pedal, which after 64 notes, with one zone active, the piano fails to play the last notes and sustain them, which creates a strange sound on its own. A bit hard to describe. Haven't tested it on the older Fantom 7 which I have as I have to buy the expansions.... any ideas or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

This is the instructions/slotion I received from Roland: To be able to keep your own sounds and scenes, you need to back them up before and there is several steps in this process - System Backup - Export Tones to USB for having your own tones - Export Scenes to USB for having your own scenes - Update firmware as you already did - Factory Reset User settings and this will make the new settings to go into operation but it will aslo kill your own settings, so that's where your own back-up of Tones and Scenes are important - Import old Scenes and Tones from your back-up

I have just updated to OS ver.3.0. I am affraid that the update file is buggy. The update process went correct and the display shows OS 3.0. I got the new tones (around 126 Jupiter X new tones), but the new scenes starting from scene 17.1. up to 32.16 are empty (Initialized scenes). No new scenes. Furthermore when I program a new scene and want to write I get "jumping" random letters in the window under the writing process. The scene is written correct in the memory. Next on some scenes using function for display of FX values showes sometimes random (not correct) values. I also experienced missing pages (strangely they show up when i go either forth or back in the pages. I made a request to Roland to explain what is going on.

To have the new scenes after the os update there is nothin. To Have the new Scenes you have to make a Factory reset User data. This is my experience. For me the problem is the editor. After the upgrade the Jupiter-x Editor doesen't work. I reinstalled it but .... nothing. The editor start but when load the the new tones .... Lock... and doesen't go away.

Yeah, my Jupiter 80 was completely abandoned. I'd sell the darned thing if it didn't have such an amazing key action. Same with the Fantom G8 I have: they released 3 fairly useless ARX expansions and that was it. Both were expensive, high quality and well built boards, but Roland just lost interest. Heck, there are even screenshots of unreleased Fantom G8 features they just killed off... @@BenedettoSchiavone Ciao! I was hoping you could explain the internal work on FANTOM's tone generation and BMC architecture or create a blog post on your website. Two questions. 1) Are Roland still not using all the BMCs on FANTOM? 2) Is the 4GB of eMMC flash memory partitioned between the keyboard sampler and pad sampler? Or is it just for the keyboard sampler?
@BenedettoSchiavone
@BenedettoSchiavone 2 года назад
@@ablesam What is certain is that with only one BMC it is impossible to manage the 256 ZenCore voices + effects + EQ for 16 parts (the BMC stops at 5 parts, see JupiterX / XM, AX Edge, JunoX, ...): so I would say that the most plausible hypothesis is that 1 BMC is used by ZenCore / Models - one is used for VPiano (part1 only), 1 for additional effects and 1 for ToneWheels organ (part2 only). Impossible to say how much computing power is available for anything else. Regarding the 4 GByte of the flash eMMC, this contains the 2 GByte of the user Samples ZenoCore + EXZ, the multisamples ROM for Zencore (140 MByte) + the multisample of SuperNATURAL Acoustic (Strings, Sax, Bass, ...), the "spectra "of VPiano and surely there is still unused space. The sounds of the PAD Samples are stored in the SD card which is inside Fantom
@ablesam
@ablesam 2 года назад
@@BenedettoSchiavone This makes sense since the PADS only has a polyphony of 4 stereo (8 mono) notes. Must be because of the read/write speeds of the MicroSD. So it is possible to upgrade the MicroSD to allow for more PAD sample storage, if FANTOM will recognize anything more than 32GB. But polyphony will still relatively stay the same. This is confusing, as in the FA, even with these limitations, you could swap out the SD CARD and load your own custom samples up to 16GB (if I recall). Maybe Roland had a reason behind it, idk. This is so far the situation when it comes to storage. 2GB of the eMMC memory for custom samples. The rest is for Roland to add new Supernatural/Model Expansions. 2GB of MicroSD for the PAD samples. Replaceable if you take apart FANTOM and swap it out. 2GB of internal storage which is there on the SoM (ROM 7421). Got it. What is your opinion on Dexibell's approach to their instrument? They have both host functionality, tone generation and efx processing on a single SoC, instead of the traditional approach of having a chip for each function. And since they don't have a custom chip, but rather use from outside vendors, they can upgrade to newer hardware when it's available. This allows for a newer PCIe interface for flash memory and better DDR memory with newer products. Unlike Roland and Yamaha who have been using BMC and SWP70 for almost 6 years. And it is due for an upgrade. What do you think will be the future architecture of hardware instruments? An entire instrument based on an SoM/SoC? Or will we see the traditional host functionality and tone generation on two separate chips. Thanks for the reply!
@BenedettoSchiavone
@BenedettoSchiavone 2 года назад
@@ablesam Dexibell takes a very similar approach to Roland's. When the instrument is switched on, all the Dexibel and user SoundFont2 samples are loaded into RAM and the processor, an ARM CORTEX iMX6 - 2 GB Ram (in the new iMX8 models - 4 GB RAM) which processes the samples from the RAM with a very high polyphony. high (320 notes). Very different is the Waldorf Iridium approach, where the multisamples are not all loaded on power up, but are only loaded when the preset calls them. This obviously involves a slowdown because you have to wait for the download; the advantage lies in the fact that there is no capacity limit (in the new firmware the multisamples can fit on a miniSD). I believe the future should be where the samples are on a PCIEx M2 SSD that guarantees 2 GByte/s reading speed. In this case, by using a working RAM and possibly streaming from SSD, it is possible to obtain results comparable to the various Kontakt and UVI Workstation / Falcon

I am writing again as this may be of interest to other Jupiter users. I have programmed own scenes in the whole memory area (scene 1.1 to 16.6). That is where the new scenes will be placed when updated with os 3.0. My own scenes did not got owerwritten in the update process. I made of cource back up before. That is therefore I can not see any new scenes as the memory locations (new user area) 17.1 to 32.16 are empty and the new scens are placed in 1.1 to 16.6. Solution might be to make a factory reset (if this brings the new os 3.0 scenes up) and export my own scenes in memory locations 1.1 to 16.6 and import these to new locations scenes 17.1 to 32.16. I have asked Roland if this is the case. By the way the strange random issues described earlier still aprears periodically. It seems that the new scene collection in the update 3.0 is a blend of some original scenes from earlier updates and whole new os 3.0 scenes ( a bit of a mess in my opinion)- I thought that the update was organised that way that the new scenes will be written in the new memory area (17.1 - 32.16) when other memory locations were occupied. Just like an import process. This is the case for my Fantom.

How do you update this without losing expansions in a second hand Jupiter X? I guess it´s impossible. And I cannot install again the expansions because are not with my account but with the previous owner´s account :(
@MaximilianoSchneider
@MaximilianoSchneider 2 года назад
In theory the update shouldn't delete anything you have, but you need to DO A BACKUP BEFORE updating. After the 3.0 update you need to do a factory reset to have access to all the new scenes, but YOU NEED to do a FACTORY reset only for the USER DATA, not the system data or licenses, so everything you have should be there after the reset, but DO NOT DO a LICENSE factory reset, only reset the user data :) Don't forget to export your scenes and tones before the reset and after that, you can get those tones back. I didn't have to reinstall the JD-800 or the Vocal designer or my wave expansions after the user data factory reset. The only thing I had to import back were my tones and scenes.

@@MaximilianoSchneider Done. Not even necessary factory reset user data, just import new SVD scenes (in gearspace there´s a link just for the new sounds), made a backup, put the new SVD and import the new scenes wherever you want. And it´s AWESOME. This update is awesome.

And we still get the same sample based SuperSaw from the ZenCore Engine where Course Tune is nothing else than a mix knob for dialing in a second static more detuned sampled SuperSaw. When will we get the original SuperSaw Algorithm from the JP-8000 where we can really set the Detune and Mix amount? This sample based SuperSaw is the worst I have ever heard, especially on short plucky sounds.
@gattobus
@gattobus Год назад
ZenCore is not only sample based. There's also a modeled supersaw (not based on samples) where you can set the detune amount as you wish. If you don't like ZenCore but you prefer a more detailed VA emulation, there's also ACB on System8: here you can have a great sounding modeled supersaw on both oscillators as well as a supersquare and a supertriangle!
@danielcraighead6901
@danielcraighead6901 Год назад
@@gattobus Thanks for the hint! Could you tell me where I can find this modeled supersaw in the Jupiter Xm? Or do you mean just a plain Saw Wave with 7 Voice Unison Mode (which would not really be a Supersaw)? I have both the Jupiter Xm and the System 8, and yes the System 8 has a great Supersaw, but here I also have one issue: When you hold down the keys and listen to the Supersaw, there is always this repeatable Oscillator beating in it. It somehow sounds like if this is due to some kind of a oscillator phase lock. Is there an option in the System 8 that the Supersaw Oscillators can be set to run phase free to get rid of this rythmical pumping?
@gattobus
@gattobus Год назад
@@danielcraighead6901 In ZenCore, in Partial edit you can select various modes: PCM, VA and also a dedicated (modeled) Supersaw mode. In System8 make sure to select MOD to Manual, then adjust the Color knob as you like. Supersaw is not phase locked, in fact if you keep pressed the keys long enough you can hear clearly the beatings of the various saws overlap one over another and change over time.

It is quite useable for people willing to use it. All is needed is a bit of application to a non-standard workflow. On the other hand, if you prefer to stay on the surface, you can still enjoy it with the preloaded patches and use only the basic controllers and the i-arpeggiator without any menu diving...but you will miss the real power of this unit.
