Roland Jupiter XM is my new obsession. Here’s me scrolling through a number of scenes and tones that I’ve put together over the last week. Heavily influenced by ff7 remake. I hardly touch the i arp but I love it.
one of the best deo out there...no techno arpeggio but great voicing playing and taste on how to play every sound category. The love for jazz can produce only big music. Thanks man, have a great day and music
Thanks for this! It's nice to hear someone who can actually play do his thing on this synth! I think I've got most of the sounds covered between all my synths, but I imagine it's just reallu fun and convenient to have them al in 1 box.
Exellent video , you just demonstrated why this synth is for producer / performer versus synth geek I went full zenology and legends stuff but i should have bougth this instead .... cpu hit can be an issue with sevral instances opened ...while the hw waranties 5 parts chilling !!
Thanks for the demo, sounds and playing are great. Lots of versatility! I'm trying to choose between a Jupiter X and a Prologue 16, really hard decision! This video is helping though. 👍🏼
Easy for me , having rhythmic component in the X (xm too small for me) and all the analogue modelling is much more interesting than basic analogue and a sampled 3rd wave.
kwaping I have both and use for different purposes. The prologue gives me the brassy Korg analog sounds and the Xm give me a very quick access to the Roland classic type synth sounds. I use them both, but I tend to use the Xm more. The LFO capability of the Korg is somewhat limiting compared to other analog synths. If I had to only choose one, it would be the Xm with added full size midi keyboard (the little keys are hard for me).
Holy crap man, that sounds amazing and you're such a good player. When you say you put those together, did you create the sounds from scratch or tweak presets? Also, did you save those in a certain order for use of reference by saving over presets? I'm about to pull the trigger on a Xm, but a little scared by the menu's UI. Your demo is really pushing me over the edge, but just wondering what you may have done that I won't know how to do! lol. Thanks and enjoy it!
Joseph Sacher I created the scenes mostly from tweaking presets. I don’t think you should be scared of the UI it is quite friendly and since the synth is battery powered and small you can have fun tweaking and designing sounds while sitting on the couch or in bed.
Great video Rob! I thought about buying this when I first heard the awesome sounds, but I just couldn't pull the trigger because of the size of those keys. I think you just conquered my fears.
I’m one of the few people on the internet that love this particular Keynes. I’ve played many keyboards with mini keys, the Korg microstation, keystep, reface cp. the Jupiter xm is highest quality mini keys keyboard I’ve played and it’s been a wonderful and useful tool for me. I have adapted to the mini keys and the limited range.
@@robnchris Seriously. I have listened to this video so many times already. I love your playing on it. It’s also my favorite demonstration on YT of the Xm. It’s actual musicianship and you make excellent use of the board’s engine. Not to mention using just 37 keys! Are these all “Scenes” you’ve created on the Xm? I’ve actually ordered one. It’s delayed and I can’t wait.
@@MosEisleySpacePort1138 you are way to kind! I still use my Jupiter xm regularly. Congrats on your purchase, it’s a powerful synth and there’s so much to discover inside it.
@@robnchris Just one more question. Sorry to bother. What are the two cables connected to the MacBook? One looks like USB; I’m assuming for MIDI. Is the other one a 3.5mm running into the headphone jack to record audio? Thanks in advance.
Lovely playing. Mind me asking which acoustic piano tone that is - I have the XM myself and haven’t found the pianos to be a strength, but that sounds great. Of course, your ability has more than a little to do with it.
Tried it out in store, it's very good. Man I am guitar player myself, but I'd love to learn a bit of keyboard as well, if I get to buy one one day... :P
Johan Wave it’s a game changer. I love it. For years I’ve gotten so much out of my reface cp and Korg Microstation. Due to the portability. This is like having the newest Roland tech+a library of their stuff in the most awesome portable form factor.
9:03 love your playing man! this tone is the sauce :) gotta get one of these portability is king, loving my yamaha CS reface. would be nice to have something that does samples to :) be well brotha
Those are some beautiful patches and some beautiful playing. I have the same keyboard and I'm inspired to get in and work on it. Are any of your patches for sale?
That was fun listening to. Subscribed. If only all the Jupiter xm Sounds would be present in the Fantom, too - I think the Juno/Jupiter/SH/JX models are missing. Because I would like to have a sequencer, songmode and all that Jupiter-xm sounds in one device... Why Roland, why have you crippled the Fantom? EDIT add: in the meantime, the ABM models (Juno, Jupiter, ..) are also available for the Fantom. But I am still undecided, good points made about the portability of the Jupiter Xm...
I feel you, I used to own the fantom but I was only using it for the functionality present inside the Jupiter xm. I like the mini keys and the portability of it so for me the Jupiter xm is the perfect device from that platform and not the fantom.
Fantom i think allows for all SRX boards to be loaded at once and supernatural sounds, and i think the sequencer is the difference. Well see what they add in the future :0
@@yeoldmedic7572 I am still waiting for the ABM models for the Fantom. Maybe xm and MPC One is a better alternative for me, I am just trying the MPC as sequencer.
@@frankjuno8808 the xm has me super hyped honestly cause the speakers and battery powered . :0 its like a buskers dream synth , lounge around play are the park. Yeah i own a fantom 7, but i leave the sequencing to my macbook. I suppose i like the fantom for the nice keybed, wide range, collosal sound options, amd whatever the hell else they decide there gonna update it with.
kwaping I’m just using a sustain pedal in this video. But an expression pedal will come in to play only after I try and get as far with the on-board controllers as possible. The 2 sliders, 3 buttons and pitch end/ mod wheel.
No knock against synths, not sure y they are so expensive, this unit is like over 2 grand, it's amazing what you can do with an ipad, you can get equally quality great sounds from an ipad for apps that cost 60 dollars tops iam including virtual instruments as well with thousands of sounds, so you almost wonder why these synths are so costly, especially since music tech has advanced so much, you think these synths would be alot more affordable
That’s a great point, it’s definitely a luxury to have an instrument like this. Gotta find what works for you so that you have the right tools for the job. I’m always impressed when people find setups that are inexpensive and clever.
Fair point but I think the XM has never been 2000. that's the X not the XM. but yeah you have to really want the tactile experience to buy these types of synths. Also, the parts and R&D and build, etc arent as cheap as you'd think. there are loads of parts there on this device and connectivity. even if made in China the mark-up isn't what you think. so yeah there is a pretty good reason why they are the cost that they are set at.
sincerely i do not understand the comments. there are very very few sounds interEsting, the most other THOUSAND sound like an 80' SC88.. and this for 1450€..3 times the price of a Korg Wavestate wich has handless possibility and sound incredible better... if i was thinking to buy this, the video was VERY usefull to decide to do not spend money on XM. An hold JP50 sounds 10 times better. (expecially cause in italy the XM easy to find it for 700-750€, half price.. and this means people buy but realize immediatly what is it..IMHO)
