Deep Tagalog is such a classy language. The "common" Filipino language is almost always mixed with English but speaking in pure Tagalog/Filipino without the swears? Fucking velvet for the ears. Also, its weird how English is widely taught and the Filipino language takes a backseat because it can easily just be learned naturally through the environment. Shit I use words I don't know the meaning to in Filipino sometimes and I frequently just code-switch so I get what red barney says.

At this point, speakers of purely tagalog, the really deep tagalog words, are a rarity in this day and age. Especially when even if tagalog is your first language, if the people you're talking to aren't originally tagalog (like people from the province who just moved to Manila), your knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar would be very limited. It really takes effort to learn it and MAINTAIN it.

I used to even read books in Tagalog and I kid you not, it gives the vibes of something sophisticated and firm. I dont understand deep Tagalog though (just a little), so I read it in English but it still gives that sophisticated firm pride vibe. I'm not good at words, but like genuinely it's good. I like those types of books, and I kinda wished I didn't have the internet until I was much much older. being exposed early on with this content, made me easily forget words and my pride in my country. sometimes I wished I was born into something cooler, like Japan and Korea or China or even America but we're all cool in our own ways. some appreciate more but it doesn't mean you should appreciate yours less.

It's really rare to see someone who can speak Filipino continuously without adding any foreign words or phrases. This actually happened because of the clash between the so-called "socioeconomic status" which affects the 'class' of an individual. It's really sad to see that many people see that being able to speak foreign language is a sign of having a higher class, but for me, speaking in your native language without stopping and adding foreign words/phrases is actually great since a lot people are having trouble with that. It's important to take note the real principle of one of the multiple intelligence which was studied by Howard Gardener which is the "Linguistic" intelligence.

Agreed. My dialect is hiligaynon and as an ilonggo i find it much more difficult to speak and understand tagalog. I take pride in a lot of our cultures, although it's quite ironic that I do so despite my lack of fluency with our own national language. I read Noli Me Tangere once, and despite my difficulty with understanding the book i still found the way that it was written absolutely beautiful.

Some of the tagalog words are derived from spanish, because Philippines was colonized by Spain many years ago. But hey, a lot of filipinos speak taglish, they combine tagalog and english when speaking.

Old Tagalog is hard as fug. Spanish also hits pretty hard when you curse out people and their families and their families' families. Bonus points when the modern city dwelling Filipino can't understand either. Even more bonus points because these words are from a city dwelling Ilocano stuck in Tagalog lands 🤣

Much respect to those that can speak in pure deep Tagalog Its something unfortunately not used in many profession's, unless you're a writer or language teacher/professor maybe? So there isn't much incentive to teach it and learn it, as proven by how everyone has their own spelling even for non deep common words and how often "i" and "e" gets swapped Everything is in English, from legal documents, laws, textbooks of most professions....so those that can speak full Tagalog are rare

I can agree with him. Nowadays Filipino or Tagalog being spoken by Filipinos nowadays have a mix of English and Tagalog. Hell even in dubbed foreign shows they do this. It is rare to hear deep Filipino words being used today. Older dubbed animes in Tagalog did use some words you would rarely use. I'm not saying this not just for Filipinos but in countries as well. It is nice to use and even preserve our languages.

As much as I hate myself as a Filipino, Jurard isn't wrong when he says that speaking (and cursing) in Tagalog is cool. You can confuse the absolute shit out of others by forming a fast-paced, yet still coherent enough chain of swears in one sentence. Granted, in my opinion, it's not as colorful the way I would do analogies and curse in English, but I know many who do it with such creativity that I sometimes have to keep up and not get left behind. However, old timey Tagalog is on a whole other level of speech. I may hate some parts of my native heritage, but I fucking respect and love the older language and the sentences you could form with them. It's elegant, well constructed and just a string of pleasing noises for the ears.

Bakit naman hindi kanais-nais ang pagiging Filipino para sayo? Masakit isipin bilang isang alagad ng sining sa bansang ito sa tuwing may kabayan na nagsasabing hindi nila gusto ang pinagmulan nila habang ipinaglalaban namin ang kultura at bansa.

Jose Rizal bagged and tagged German Oyakodon. Jose Protacio Mercado y Alonso Realondo, our Filipino national hero, was an absolute rizzler. Dude was poor af, went to a foreign country and rizzed up women like it was nothing. Keep in mind, this is official history. We have their correspondences as official Filipino treasures. Being a playah is part and parcel of our national identity.

Deep Tagalog is annoying to learn and I despised my Filipino classes because of that. I’m Fluent in it (pretty much a requirement, I was born and raised in the Philippines). But I somehow picked up English much faster and better than it, and hence began the backwards situation of high grades in EN, barely passing in Filipino.
