This was originally a book written by Michael Crichton. A major theme throughout many of his stories is the arrogance of humans in light of scientific creation, and the fact that we not only can't foresee all the ramifications of what we make, but we often don't even care to look because we are too consumed with making a profit. He was an excellent writer, among the many things he did, and any of his stories are worth a read.

The moment the brachiosaurus is revealed and the music swells is just cinematic magic. One of my all time favorite movies. Another great reaction! 🙌🏼

Jeff Goldblum is the perfect Malcolm. His delivery has always been one of my favorite styles and the lines given to his character in this movie are tight! 😎

It doesn't matter how often I've seen Jurassic Park, that scene in the maintenance bunker when the Raptor shows up behind Ellie will always get me with the jumpscare. Side notes: The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and everyday objects. The Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately known as Rexy, was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls), with lion & tiger sounds and alligator gurgles thrown in and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death). The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds. The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus chest roar and dolphin mating scream, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds. The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey brays, while the sneeze was a mix of a fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s). The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a female horse in heat. A good portion of this movie was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Whenever I hear Hammond ask "Who's hungry?", my first reaction every time is "Not after hearing the Raptors rip the cow apart." Lego released 30th anniversary sets in honor of Jurassic Park and the one I have is based on Dennis Nedry's encounter with the Dilophosaurus.

The man who plays Hammond is Richard Attenborough. The brother of our dear David.

Remember what he said about the container it can only keep the embryos at the right temperature for a limited time. Those particular samples don't factor into any of the other movies. You should definitely watch the rest of these and the Jurassic World movies. As long as you know going in nothing really tops this original movie. There are pretty cool parts in every movie at least.

"Doesnt look scary. Like a 6-foot-turkey." I had run-ins with swans. Birds are SCARY. Even -- especially -- if they are WAY smaller than 6 feet. At 6 feet they are absolutely TERRIFYING. (That's a running theme in the novel and the movie that modern city dwellers are losing their knowledge about nature and animals. Like the way how Nedry treats the Dilophosauri as if they were trained dogs.)

Girl Did you notice the Miss America moment with the T rex at the end? To me after T Rex killed those two mean dinosaurs and she was in the moment with her victory roar and the jurasic park banner falls down. it's almost like it stated. " here she is, the queen of Jurasic park, miss Dino American T rex. She just needed her tiara and roses

I read the book when it first came out back in the early 90's while on an archeological dig, camping and sleeping in tents. Perfect, LOL! The book got passed around the whole camp, everybody loved it. 🤓 When the movie came out, it was SO good! Great job, Kahla! This was a fun one to rewatch with you.

"You _are_ the food." I love it when a reactor makes that comment. Not many do. 😂 Kahla, I just discovered your channel and I love this reaction. As a long time dinosaur and Spielberg fan, I was thrilled when I learned he was making a movie of this book. I saw it at least a dozen times in the theaters, and I don't know how many times since then. In real life, velociraptors were only about the size of wild turkeys. The ones in this movie more closely resemble Deinonychus but, I guess, Spielberg decided Raptor sounded cooler. There is no evidence to the theory that T-rex can't see you if you don't move so, if you ever come across one, run! Dinosaurs would have a hard time in today's world. The air during the Cretaceous period contained about 50% more oxygen that in does now, and it would have been much warmer. That T-rex chasing the Jeep would have had to stop every few steps to catch her breath. Maybe that's why she eventually gave up and stopped chasing it. The second JP movie is good too, the third one, not so much, but it does complete the original trilogy. Definitely one of my all time favorites. Saw in the theater four times when it first came out. The reason Nedry did what he did was in the novel. Basically, Hammond screwed him over. After Nedry finished his contract, Hammond forced him to do more without paying him for it. The novel makes it clear that everything is Hammond's fault. He's the straight up villain. It's hard to blame the dinosaurs too much. They were just animals. I mean, the T-Rex behavior was territorial, not so much aggression.

Even though the film portrays the herbivore dinosaurs as non-threatening, like the brachiosaurus. That's far from the reality of nature. There's a good reason why people don't approach elephants, rhinos, and hippos in the wild. Many people have lost there lives or have been seriously injured from being trampled or attacked by large herbivores. Some can be extremely aggressive.

My favorite quote from this movie: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with wether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." It's the modern version of Rabelais' quote: "Science without conscience is but the ruin of the soul." Also when I was in 1st year of biology in college, we have an assignment that was to analyze all scientific errors or impossibilities in Jurassic Park and explain why (or how to correct them if possible). There were a lot of mistakes. But it didn't alter my love for this movie at all.

Read the novel some time! Author Michael Crichton, who died 2000s, was a very interesting and amazingly accomplished guy. He started as an ER Physician from Harvard Med School, then wrote books in his spare time like The Andromeda Strain. That got him involved in Hollywood, and he wrote and directed the original Westworld, the first movie to use CGI (at least he claimed). Then directed about 7 more movies while pumping out bestselling novels into the 2000s - lots of them made into movies. Also wrote books on art and computers. If not obvious, he was known in his time for being incredibly intelligent. All that while being 6-foot-9 (just a curious fact 🤣).

"I wasn't expecting the T.Rex!" Neither were the filmmakers. A lot of the dinos were still animatronics -- that was the original plan to show them, the CGI was a bit of a spontaneous late addition -- and the T.Rex animatronic would not fit into the lobby set. So they originally wrote the end without it, much to Spielberg's chagrin. When they introduced the CGI, they had no restrictions and could show the T.Rex there, the way Spielberg wanted it to be from the beginning.

Excellent reaction; it's always fun and interesting to go back to a movie as an adult and catch things that might have slipped by when you were younger. I always forget that they mention the Lysine Contingency in the movie. It's a good idea, a genetic shock fence for potentially lethal animals, but the opening chapters of the novel prove that it DOES NOT WORK, which makes the situation even more unsettling.

I can't remember the old man's character's name who created this idea of bringing back dinosaurs, in a way he wanted to be a type of Walt Disney but with dinosaurs Things seem to be perfectly secure and would remain that way ( IF )Greed and Assholism didn't ruin it. And Nerdly paid the price for it by becoming lunch for the spitting peacock version of a dinosaur. Both sides don't take the risks seriously and in the end they both screw the other over. the possitive in not noticing the warninging signs and the greedy side not being smart like the others in knowing what a risk they're taking.

Was 1993 and it blew me away, when he turned her head to see the Brachiosaurus I was hooked. I wanted to be a palentoligist as a kid, funny enough I work in Film and TV, was fortunate to work on JP:WORLD.

One thing I love about the movie adaptation is that Hammond is not a villain. He is an incredibly naive, even foolish, idealist, that ultimately just wanted to create something awesome for people to enjoy (you kinda have to feel bad for him, really). In the book he is the creedy, manipulative and arrogant antagonist, which of course isn't bad, but I prefer the added layer of tragedy his movie version brings into the story.

I saw this 6 times in theaters as a kid with different people almost every time. That's how epic it was. When CGI was brand new and blended beautifully with practical effects. Not completely depended on as it is now. I will never forget feeling the steps of the T-Rex as the water ripples...now that's chaos. One of the greatest cinematic experiences ever!

Jurassic Park is my absolute favorite of the entire saga! I still have memories when I went a local movie theater, and it had famous scenes from movies framed on the wall. They had a framed shot of the scene of the T-Rex roaring as the Jurassic Park banner falls. 🦖🖤💛❤️

I always thought that if John Hammond and Dr. Henry Wu had put their egos in check and only re-created the herbivores, then there wouldn’t have been any concern about the carnivores having to be controlled.

They took Jeff Goldblum onboard, and basically just tell him to be himself. This is the Goldblumest role Jeff has ever done!

This is a great and classic movie! I was a little kid who was OBSESSED with dinosaurs, and I saw this movie in the theaters like 10 times, even though it scared the shit out of me!! 🤣

In the next movie, they mentioned that three people died during this incident, but it was actually four. They didn't count Dennis Nedry because apparently his remains were never found, so nobody knows what happened to him.

The iconic T-Rex scene, the T-Rex comes through the fence but later we see on the other side is a 50 ft cliff, making this an impossibly for it to come through at that location.

I remember the trip to Kenya I made with my mother when I was 5 yo. During the Safari, I saw next to no animals except a couple of Giraffes and an elephant from afar. Had I've been proposed to return there now, i'd say 'no thanks, it's a tourist trap and nothing else, I see the beasts much better in an animal documentary'

When she said that "They didn't need to bring back everyone", it is better explained in the novel but: It's not like DNA comes with a nametag. They spent millions on getting their hands on the DNA, on the computers that sequence it, and on the ostrich eggs. Every embryo that survived had to be raised to maturity for them to know just what the hell they'd brought back. And, on the Dylophosaurus account, it was literally impossible to know they were venomous, since any organ that might've produced that venom wouldn't have fossilized with the bones. I don't remember if in the book it was mentioned that it was because of the DNA splicing that made them venomous, but it is now part of the cultural zeitgeist.

Why did they bring them [that species] back? They had no control over what species they bring back. They just found some DNA, they could figure out what fragments belong together, but they didn't know what species the full DNA would make.

I always thought it was dumb that they act like opening unlocked doors is some sort of crazy smart thing for an animal to be able to do. Tons of animals do that just fine. I'd say that not being able to figure it out is a sign of abnormal stupidity in an animal.

The glass from the sun roof collapsing and pinning the kids was an accident, but Spielberg kept it in because it added to the fear and tension.

Nedry didn't open the gates/turn off the fences to cover his tracks. The park is so poorly designed that he HAD to turn them off so he could drive the Jeep TO the east dock to deliver the embryos. That's why he doesn't bother with the raptor pen. Everything was done for the plan only, including disabling the door locks in the visitor center and shutting down the closed circuit cameras in the lab. Great reaction however.

The parents took my bro & me to the drive-in to see this one when it came out.

This movie needs to be high on your rewatch list if you ever get a nice surround sound setup. It was demo material for decades after it came out and the first movie I watched when i got my setup.

At the time of this movie, the popular idea of dinos was that they were incredibly stupid and sluggish. They were depicted as dragging their tails in the mud (because at the time it was thought they were limited to swamps). Some dinos were thought to have had a second brain near their tail (they didn't). So the book and movie went out of the way by over compensating them, as extremely fast and extremely smart. A T-rex could only run about 15 mph due to shifting of its weight from leg to leg. Scientists don't think raptors could figure out how to open doors. The special effects in this movie simply blew people away when it came out. Up until then, dinos were represented in movies with jerky stop-action clay animations (as per the original 1933 King Kong) or filming a Gila Monster up close from the low angle, then projecting it behind the actors blown up in size. (Or for some dino-type monsters, a man in a rubber lizard suit, aka the first Godzilla.)

In the end, the real friend was the T-Rex we made along the way.

I'm glad you like JP :) It's my favorite movie! If you haven't already watched it, I recommend JW's Camp Cretaceous series (which, despite being more for kids, feels much more like a proper continuation of JP than the JW movies). Also, if you wanna learn about real dinos (which technically include birds), I highly recommend Darren Naish's "Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved" (the best adult intro to the whole story of dinos) & "Dinopedia: A Brief Compendium of Dinosaur Lore" (the best adult guide to dinos & their cultural impact since the 1970s).

The only reason those kids were at that Park was because their parents were getting a divorce like the lawyer said in the beginning of the movie that's why the kids are with their grandfather's island.

The goat was the appetizer and Gennaro was the main course.

Old joke : I can buy the part about mosquito DNA making all this possible, but I will not believe that a T Rex could digest a lawyer.

9:58 scenes like this, the seriousness is what was sorely lacking in JW. JW treated this new generation of movie goers like they were stupid and only wanted to see dino go boom.

I don't agree with everything Malcom or Sattler say, but I understand where they're coming from. Nature is not some sentient thing that selected dinosaurs for extinction (unless you think the Earth is a sentient being that can call meteors to itself to wipe out life). But it is extremely reckless to bring these creatures back without a lot of study, especially into a situation that doesn't have multiple failsafe backups for the tour (the creatures resurrected are from many different eras in Earth's history, not just the ones that were destroyed by a meteor hitting the Earth in the Late Cretaceous. The Jurassic period is long before both the Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex were, which were both from the Cretaceous period). The electric fences and tour vehicles should have had dedicated backup generators, and the pens themselves should have had additional barriers, such as elevation differences, to prevent the dinosaurs from being able to threaten the tourists in the event of a total electrical breakdown (I know, the T Rex pen is not exactly portrayed in a way that makes logical sense, but the massive drop we see for the car absolutely makes sense from a tour show standpoint since it would prevent the T Rex from reaching the electric fence at all, let alone during a power failure. But the drama of having a T Rex tear its' way through the fence to threaten the tourists, and then making it a huge drop for the car, makes sense for the movie).

btw, Timmy could have handed Ellie a shotgun instead of stressing over what his sister was doing on a computer.
