@@dlfunn I think it's a realistic ending for them. Ellie wanted kids and Dr. Grant didn't, and the shared trauma from Jurassic Park was probably too much for both of them.

@@HolyShitItsHim1 yes, in fact, at the end of JP1 when Alan is sleeping with the two children on his shoulders while Ellie looks at them, through the window it is seen that some storks are flying, that was a subliminal message about that they were going to have children. In JP3, when changing the director of the film, things were done that did not go hand in hand with the plot, even Mark and his work were something convenient for the end.

Mark was broad minded and liberal so he wanted the ex love birds to hv some quality time together. Ellie wasn't the type to cheat on her husband and start an extra marital affair and nor was Alan the type to break a happy family and resume an affair with his ex, he graciously accepted his ex' happily married life, calling Mark a "Great guy". And their dream to unite finally comes true after 21 years.

Having kids is a completely different matter than tolerating them. Here Grant seems comfortable with Ellie's kids but it's pretty obvious he doesn't want any of his own.

I am a member of Quora and read a lot about dinosaurs. A top writer and contributor named Joshua Walters said in an answer that in real life, herbivorous dinosaurs could've been very aggressive, given that they had to fight predators. It's like a rhino, hippo or elephant.

I remember watching the movie with my brother, and when Alan and Charlie were playing with dinosaur toys and then Ellie appears with the baby, we looked at each other and smiled, the whole situation was very sweet... but then Mark just arrived, and we only looked at each other with bewilderment and sadness, i mean Mark seems to be a great guy, but Alan and Ellie were our ship, they looked so close and adorable in JP1

In order for those you love to live their best life, you have to understand that you can't force someone to stay. He couldn't provide her children which is something she wanted and hoped Grant would want in part 1. Maybe they could've adopted, but he knew deep down he couldn't provide her the kind of life she wanted and decided to make the hard decision to let her go. Is it what he wanted? Probably not, but he loved her enough to have her move on. You will understand this in time if you haven't experienced life enough. We all make these decisions at some point.

It's simple. This story of them breaking up is reality. The "happily ever after", that's the fiction. The truth is that women absolutely have no problem choosing the wrong guy, the dispassionate, dull, and paper-pushing guy, instead of the intellectual, deep, and spirited guy, because the paper-pusher equals security. Even in the first JP they very clearly say how difficult it was to come across money to fund their work. Ultimately, the filmmakers chose to make it a more real story of the man who loved her and finally came around to how she wanted to change him to be, and it still wasn't enough for her. It sucked for we fans, but it is a more real storyline. More believable by me.

It happens all the time in life and movies, not sure why people say it's strange. Rachel Dawes seemed to have been perfect for Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins but she chose Harvey Dent in Dark Knight.

The whole first movie establishes his dislike and slow realization that he wanted kids throughout the movie. There’s a small line in the movie about Lex and Timmy’s mom getting a divorce, making their attachment to Grant in the beginning, and Lex’s panic statement of “he left us” have more meaning. So when Grant says to her “But that’s not what I’m gonna do.” and him waking up with the kids at the end, pretty much giving Ellie a look that he’s ready.....it’s like they haven’t even watched the damn first movie. I get the movie wants to establish that they broke up, but c’mon. I don’t buy it.

The second novel added another level to their relationship in the first book that we just didn’t see. It says they used to be together at the time of Jurassic Park. So actually they were involved in the movie and in the book. There’s also a fan theory that they tried to have kids but found out they were unable to have kids together.

You're probably mixing up the dinner scene with Grant and Ellie and the first time Billy blows into the resonating chamber at the dig site.

I really didn't think their chemistry was all that great. He was a miserable old codger that didn't like kids (yes he looked after Lex and Tim, but I think anyone with any semblance of humanity wouldn't leave them behind) and she was a pretty, kind, friendly woman who wanted a family. I'd say "who are they kidding?" if they stayed together. They wanted different things

@@rogergarrison4271 He actually DID want kids at the end of the movie. He didn't say it out loud but it was very heavily implied in the scene where they're flying away to safety in the helicopter. He didn't like kids at the beginning but after meeting Lex and Tim and bonding with them, changed all that.

@@skylerslack12 I always took that " I'm the last of my kind" line to mean he considers himself one of the last true paleontologists in a world where dinosaurs are now living again. I never considered it to mean he was infertile. I think Alan still loves Ellie and while he warmed up to children more in the original I think he realized that having kids and being a 24/7 parent isn't his thing so he let Ellie go so she could have the children she wanted but always remained in touch with her.

There were cut scenes from the original movie that they were in a romantic relationship. Look up pics for it. It wasn't until recently that I found out there were a few clueless fans who thought they weren't in a romantic relationship. Why else would Alan get irked by Ian hitting on Ellie? In the book it's very clear they aren't in a romantic relationship, but in the movie it's more than implied. At the very end of the movie Alan is bonding with children and that's another clue that they are in a romantic relationship.

Exactly If they somehow end up being together in Jurassic world dominion I won't be that bothered by it. But I'm also not taking their breakup so hard: Alan Grant wanted to keep the life of science and discoveries rather than settle down and Ellie wanted a family. In the end of the first film, so I believe, Dr grant indeed grow to fond kids more after his experience with Tim and lex. But it didn't necessarily scream "I want also"
