What I especially love about the Raptors in this game, is that Robert Bakker says the one on Jurassic Park is Utahraptor. And that's actually a reference to an ironic twist when you think about it. Spielberg made the Velociraptors bigger than they actually were in real life to make them more dangerous and menacing. However, shortly after the film came out, a discovery was made of a Raptor/Dromeosaur species that WAS as big as the Raptors in Jurassic Park (in fact it was even BIGGER). That species was Utahraptor. After it was discovered, author Michael Crichton said that if he had known Utahraptor existed before he started writing Jurassic Park, he WOULD have made Utahraptor the villain of the story.
"...he would have..." I doubt it. Nothing stopped Michael Chrichton from writing imaginative things about the other creatures in the novel. He saw a name he thought was catchy, and he went with it. Props to him. If scientists started to call the Tyrannosaurus Rex the Texas Rex, for the same reason, then he may have a point.
In the jurassic park Lost World game on sega saturn, they just made it a deinonychyus , which is what was really in the movies. Always bugged me as a kid, knowing raptors were much smaller

Christmas 1993, the day I got my Sega CD (still have it) and this, my first Sega CD game. I was blown away by the "future" of game technology, and I have nothing but great memories of this game.
You had the second model, the top loader model, then? You may have heard this already, but if not, make sure to only use the right power adapter for it or you'll blow a fuse, at minimum. The fuses are cheaply bought and are easy enough to replace, but it's a bother.
Something that may not be obvious if you skipped straight to the comments or weren't paying close attention to the timer during the video: you DO have 12 hours in which to beat the game, and that's in real time, but every time you have a transition scene from area to area, I believe you automatically lose 5 or 10 minutes based on the kind of transition scene you get and the implied length of the time you'd spend getting to the area in question. If you've ever taken a look at how the stairs work in the Die Hard NES game, it's a lot like that (minus a good ol' first-person foot power mechanic). In other words, wander aimlessly and you will surely fail in your quest (and a lot quicker than you'd think 12 hours would afford).
A point-and-ciick? I love this genre of games for sure, but I never imagined this is what the Sega CD got! IIRC there was a version that was on the... Amiga I think, that was a top-down exploration adventure game with a bit of action sprinkled in here and there. _Jurassic Park_ is one of the most diverse franchises when it comes to games that I can think of.
@@Dorian_Scott The Amiga gameplay is basically the same thing as the NES and especially the SNES versions, but with enhanced visuals and a lovely soundtrack by Dean Evans. And Dr. Grant doesn't have a hat on, for some reason. Played the Genesis version quite a bit myself, rented from Blockbuster.
Was my first Sega CD game I got. Was so absolutely stoked the day I got it. I always loved it even through all the stressful situations. Still today, wish you could disable the timer. Didn't give you enough time to just wander and enjoy the games beauty.
The music, video atmosphere and sounds absolutely blew me away when I played this game. I admit now I was way too young to fully appreciate the game, never beat it and I really regret selling my Sega CD system
Someone needs to make a youtube compilation of death sounds from this game, they were both horrific and hilarious at the same time, nothing like any other game I played.
Just imagine if we could just get a GOOD open world (1:1 scale with real life) Jurassic Park game, maybe being able to explore multiple islands. Semi-survival in that guns and ammo aren't TOO plentiful.
I would be into that. Doesnt need a story . Just exploring different places and terrains with a thick atmossphere , find a safe shelter or abadoned ruins of the park to know its stories & dangers , survive dinosaur-attacks and finding a way to get out of the island without being on pressure. But tbh there should be many weapons and the ammo should be enough to fight back some encounters. Even be able to kill a T-rex if you are good at the gameplay .
Love this game. Still have it. The raptors were so hard. I did beat the game but it was quite a challenge. I just wish they would rerelease it for current consoles.
Me too. They did just release the "Jurassic Park Collection" but this was one of two titles that were left out, the other being the Master System/Game Gear version.

I guess that'll teach me to jump to conclusions. Well, did you know that you could activate the self-destruct sequence as soon as you start playing? This is another Easter egg that's triggered by chucking the first rock you get at the computer in the Visitor Center's main room.
As a kid I got to the final showdown like twice and died, rage quitted and that's all she wrote. Satisfying to see this fucker beaten in my old age of mid thirties.
Nostalgia! I remember this was one of the Sega CD games that we had. Since I loved point-and-click games having played Maniac Mansion, I found this game enjoyable. It also scared me. This was a good story concept, because humans cannot let the park go! When Jurassic Park: The Lost World came out, I was under the impression that Dr. Robert Burke was the same guy who taught us about the dinosaurs in the Sega CD game since they looked the same and had a similar profession.
This was vaguely mentioned in another in-depth video game magazine as it said something about putting a wrench into the switch of a sewer opening, or something.
The part where u have to honk the horn to get past the charging Triceratops before it kills you and the part where u have to tranq that Compy after he steals the Triceratops egg...me and my older bro were stuck on those parts forever back then
I can’t even count the number of hours I spent playing this as a teenager. As in, 12yo lol. The raptor cave at the end gave me nightmares lol. I can’t believe I finished this game before the internet lol.
I remember playing this as a kid and not knowing where I was supposed to go or what I was supposed to do to progress the game though I did know that I was supposed to collect eggs from the dinosaurs and place them in Dr. Woo's incubator, but that was about it. It did help a little after I found out about the location skip trick with controller two and that I had a best buddy back then to perform the trick so that I could warp back to the visitor center every time I nabbed an egg and I also remember our hearts beating out of our chests every time I survived a dinosaur attack. Unfortunately, the trick seemed to suddenly stop working at one point...just in time for me to get trampled by that angry Triceratops that smashed up the crashed Jeep. * sigh * Ah, such fond memories. My only gripes here are the music and style being a little on the lighthearted and cartoony side for this kind of game, and what was with that kooky music that plays every time you travel? And also, how did this guy move so fast between locations while on foot? Did he make a quick side trip to Back to the Future and borrow Marty's hoverboard on the way to Isla Nublar? I wish this had been included on the Jurassic Park Collection but those who are savvy enough can probably add it to the new SEGA Genesis 2 Mini since the internal memory apparently has room for SEGA CD games.
The mechanics of this game were very difficult for someone like me who tried to play this when I was 6 to 8 years old. Interesting to now have memories of all the spots I remember from the game but actually being able to make progress 😂
I remember wishing I could use the crowbar on the goddamn doors. I had a bunch of Sega CD games and this was the only one I considered playable. Until I got some polygon space shooter
thecowboy2 That's pure myth. T-Rex's eyesight was just as good as OUR eyesight. In fact, it was even BETTER. They could see us from at least a mile away. They could smell us from FIVE miles away.

I remember seeing this game on display at the Sears electronics department. I had played the NES game up until this point, but just wasn't a fan of the SNES/Genesis ones; even as a kid who was gradually being raised on adventure point'n'click games felt this would've also been better suited to the franchise at the time than what I had been playing. Sadly never got a Sega CD at the time, but would've been cool had I gotten ahold of it.
Did you know that you can get infinite exploding darts. Go inside the main building and go upstairs. Go to the third door. Use the tyrannosaurus CD on the card reader that's on the far right side of the door. Then use the triceratops key card on the card reader that's just left of the door, its the one you normally use to open it . Once inside Open the cabinet that has the gun and exploding darts, now you can collect as many darts as u need.

I remember this game but a friend got it, his grandma got it for him thinking he would get the better version of the game i had (Genesis version) and i told him this wasnt a true JP game at the time. His grandma was a jealous old hag.
I see this game in a Spanish channel in the top of worst games of Jurassic Park and this game is the only im like for the information of the dinosaurs.
I was in elementary school when I got this game. Did not get far at all. But I was happy to see the Dilophosaurus before they killed me. They were my favorite but the stun gun does nothing to hurt them. I remember being so scared when the Tyrannosaurus walked by. lol.
Though.....what’s the point of getting Dino Eggs in....any of the Jurassic Park Games? To try again on redoing The Park In Future Games? I wonder that’s how Jurassic World Came in? Movie or Game.

I love how the guy narrating has no really no idea what the dinasours ate and what they didn't eat. also all the dinos were not meat eaters they were veg eaters how do I know this God wouldn't create something that would eats its own unless mankind was corrupted. with sin and evil than and only then would they become meat eaters.
I agree. The atmospheric elements of this game were absolutely great. The actual puzzles were terrible for the most part. Unplayable without a guide or even a video walkthrough.

I was hardly a video game expert as a boy, especially with puzzle-intensive games, but I never had too much trouble with this one. Managed to complete it in a few days.
Game seems ok, but the music! Oh lord, the music is just the worst possible stock tunes I’ve heard in a while, not fitting in with Jurassic Park at all. The transisions especially, its like benny hill.
