Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa are high priests of the game, both ideologues who are synonymous with high energy, high pressing styles which now, with Leeds winning promotion, will finally clash. But what are the differences in the football they preach and where do the contrasts occur?

Hari Bhandari because they move it quick from the centre. From central Defense and midfield. Also they cut inside from wide positions a lot. This is how they stretch teams and why some teams lose shape against them.

You forget, Liverpool play quite compact and exploit open spaces. When teams play 3 back/5 back, they use a more attacking Henderson or Chamberlain to penetrate through the middle , and weaken the oppositions defensive solidity. This happened many times last season.

Bielsa is one of the best underrated managers of all time... Coming from a United fan. Bielsa changed Chilean football and built the base of of their "golden generation". He takes challenges and that's why he isn't that recognized. Took Bilbao who only uses local players, O. Marseille in one their worst years and promoted leeds after 16 years. Playing attractive and pressing football. Knows how to neutralize teams and apply a winning mentality to his players. A genius.

Great comment. Just wanted to add for whoever didn't know: He actually did win I think 2 leagues with Newell's in Argentina (his home team) and made it to a Libertadores final with them. (Also won one league with Velez). He also won gold in the olympics with Argentina in Athens. And now Championship with Leeds 👏
@AlexxxxxSaysHi
@AlexxxxxSaysHi 3 года назад
Makes sense, when he came to leeds he said he would improve their current team rather than bringing in a lot of new talent which obviously suited the new owner. But considering leeds form before his arrival to now, you've got to wonder how many potentially legendary football players were lost because the manager wanted to solve problems through the transfer market rather than their implementation of tactics.

If both teams try to counter press there'd be a lot of goals. Gegenpressing is high risk high reward tactic, because if you fail you expose space, if you succeed you have a good attack. I think it's more got to do with lijnders who's more extrovert and talkative towards the players making the players like him more than buvac, this became problematic because it undermined buvac's authority and influence hence creating an "internal competition" between those two. Bielsa still no result for me = not yet success in my mind, i am still recognize zidane as greatest manager over pep guardiola, jurgen klopp, ancelotti, bielsa, & jose mourinho, can bielsa win 3 champions league? No others men can do it now only zidane ! That prove that i mean !! Talk bielsa when he can achieve premier league title, Then if you complain zidane only fortune cause manage real madrid? So if in my mind, the difficult team to manage is top club, cause "there is ego superstar" than zidane can manage it, but bielsa in argentina? Can't, so where is great from bielsa? I still not find it 🤔😄 The open system is the worst in my knowledge of football manager, cause is easier to attacked from flank, from combinative pass like unbeaten wenger, from counter like parked buss jose mourinho 😉 so it's why bielsa always lose cause TOO OPEN IN DEFENCE Always lose ya lose, you can't complain with lose... it's bad man when you lose you complain not evaluate it !!!

Great video as always! I think the final point shows the biggest difference between the two: Klopp is flexible, willing to adapt & always eager to learn from his peers; Bielsa is notoriously stubborn & rigid with his tactics, often to the point of alienating his players & staff. Of course, both men have a clear and concrete footballing philosophy, and have spent a long time refining it, but I feel like Bielsa isn't as willing to evolve as Klopp, in recent years at least. I AM a Liverpool supporter, though, so I'm obviously a bit biased ;)
@LeoDragon34

Bielsa has never stayed anywhere long enough to create a dynasty, and his methods have always worked, to a certain extent anyway, with the teams he’s coached, so why would he change? For Leeds’ fans he’s our saviour already so if he leaves it‘s very unlikely to be because of the fans. It’ll be interesting to see whether he adapts or leaves if his system doesn’t bring the success he expects. My guess is he’d leave rather than adapt, but who knows? He’s the ultimate enigma.
@md.golammusabbirjoy9469
@md.golammusabbirjoy9469 4 года назад
Nah you are absolutely right. It costed him many times tbh. When he was Argentina coach, his side was one of the greatest team in their history, yet they failed miserably because of Bielsa's stubbornness. Almost same thing happened in Bilbao too. He lost two finals with them. The reason he did wonder with Leeds because low tier teams don't need flexibility. If you have a good structure, you can do far better than the others. But in top football, it doesn't apply. Including good structure, you will need a lot more things to compete in the top level. Some of the other prime examples of this are Sarri and Raneiri. They can do wonder with low or mid table clubs, but can't do the same thing with top clubs.
@carlx8409
@carlx8409 4 года назад
@@md.golammusabbirjoy9469 His Argentina side has still the highest win percentage in the history of the national team, I wouldn't judge his work solely for one or two games, they just lost to England in the world cup and many other teams progressed through the first knockout round with the same amount of points. Same applies to Bilbao: the fact that they reached those cup finals with a pretty average team bossing Manchester United at Old Trafford in the process is quite an achievement - after all, they lost to Pep Guardiola's Barcelona and a strong Atlético Madrid with Falcao on fire. His style of football demands so much from his players that he needs them to firmly believe in his idea, hence why he thinks that a 'plan B' is to get 'plan A' to work. What he believes is that, if he doesn't trust in his idea, he won't be able to transmit his commitment and desire to his players. Call it being stubborn if you like.

So Bielsa plays: Back 3 against a front 2 i.e against a 4-4-2 Back 4 against a front 3 i.e against a 4-3-3 How does he play against an isolated lone striker? i.e against a 5-4-1? Back 4 I would guess? And push his fullbacks high? What about a 4-4-1-1?

It will be interesting, but considering Leeds’ new signings have only been training with the squad for one day (due to nationals) - Leeds are practically using last season’s squad (minus the integral centre-back Ben White), and it would take a perfect masterplan to get anything from this Liverpool side.

The entire success of liverpool can be credited to 5 players salah,mane,trent,van dijk,robertson these 5 have been outstanding day in day out and as long as they can perform klopp can continue to dominate the league with a backup of decent team supporting these 5. On the other hand other major teams had only 1 or 2 players that play at a similar level as these 5 do and injuries playing a major part in liverpool's success in last 2 seasons. With chelsea looking to increase quality of squad depth and guardiola hunting for centre backs it sure looks like this season will be a tight one, hope man united can join in too by making 2-3 quality signings.

So basically, Bielsa is like anti-Guardiola, which is build-up tiki-taka play from the front instead of the back? I'd love to see that, also the way he will retained his philosophy against the turnover teams, like Watford and Leicester

A lot of German managers and managers who worked in Germany at the top of the pressing tree. EPL's two biggest signings are German. Champions League winners are German. The international squad must be primed for a big trophy?

As a Leeds fan I hope I'm wrong but 4:35 is the reason why I expect us to struggle today. Long balls from the Liverpool defence will make the Bielsa press ineffective

Sampaoli, a disciple of Bielsa, played pressing like Bielsa on the field but with superiority on the attack in all teams he’s had success: La U, Chile and more recently Santos, last year.

No doubt bielsa is the best coach ever when it comes to true football philosophy. But the thing that matters at the end is quality of players. Liverpool is too strong and will win easily. But would be great attacking and pressing games

i don't think that "adapt" is better word to say what the video want to say. "adapt" means to better shape yourself to something. in this context, Bielsa could adapt his style to the players he have, to take the better performance of each one, or adapt to the adversarys. don't make sense he adapt to his own players, becouse he is with them since last season. and don't make much sense adapt to the adversarys becouse that he must do game per game. Klopp adapt to his own players when moved to liverpool. Bielsa is not moving to other club, so would not make much sense he adapt to someting, when what he is doing is working.

I think it's fair to note at this point that part of the reason Bielsa won't change his style is that it in itself is a marriage of 2 primary schools of Argentinian thought, and has a high degree of pragmatism beneath the ideological skin. Also, his opposition analysis being encyclopedic means there are always tweaks within the system to what he is doing.

2:45 wow Southampton and Leicester that high surprised me a little. But then again both have got great "new school" technical, progressive managers. Both underrated IMO. Hasenhüttl especially, Brendan does get praised at times. Hasenhüttl did really well to pick Southampton up and get them going again after the 9-0. Which ofc. was against Leicester. Both really modern managers. I really like them both. As a Boro fan I really wish we had a manager like that tbh. Wooders was the first manager of that type we've ever had, but sadly it didn't work out and now we've gone back to the Jurrasic period again with another dinosaur manager in Warnock. We should have got someone of the mold of a Rogers/Hasenhüttl a real forward thinking modern progressive manager. Really disappointed in our recruitment of managers over the years. I REALLY wanted Woodgate to do well. He spoke BRILLIANTLY about how he wanted to play etc. very open and direct in the way he talked. Very clear philosophy. I wished we could have held on better and given him a second season with some of his own signings.
