@@SHREDTILLDEAD hard disagree my man. A kemper is not affordable at all, you can even get a used helix these days for way cheaper. Plus, a solid state amplifier and the kemper’s digital profiling are two completely different kinds of technology and not really comparable, and also some people just don’t like the sound of the kemper.

I like the lunchbox and mini amp craze. My current rig is 25 watt Mesa Transatlantic head and a Peavey Valveking 20 MH that I run at the same time with a Radial amp switcher. I dial the Mesa for more highs and mids and the peavey for lows and mids. I have no problem keeping up volume wise and the fullness of tone is hard to fully describe. I don't ever see myself going back to 60- 100 watt amps.

I grabbed one used for less than 200 and it got here tonight. So far I've only plugged it into a shitty 1x10 cab, and I even found settings to get that to sound great! I'm going to send it through my 1960a tomorrow!

Just got the Bogner Ecstasy Mini, I was a little disappointed at first, but after tweaking the controls... and using the Variac switch I got it sounding really good (and I'm a tone snob) 👍

These amps are a cool idea for certain uses. Grab one with a decent 1x12 cab for a killer beginners/intermediate amp. They are way better than what we had to start on back in the day. Or maybe the same set up for a living room/TV amp to noodle around on when relaxing. Or maybe something to use while traveling.

I have bought 5 amps in the last year. This one was on clearance at guitar center for 169.00 .. it is by far the best purchase I have made. I don't hear all the fizz I normally do on solid state amps. Use my boss sd1 with it and it is a beast!!

no hate here. just gonna voice an observation and what I suspect is behind the observation. these smaller form amps seem to have a more fizzy top end than their tube big Brothers. I don't think it has anything to do with the tone stack portion of the tiny amps tho. I have a feeling what I'm hearing is "solid state" these things aren't tube. I believe there is a solution though. if you just want to have different amp characteristics for different songs, maybe you're a recording guy, I would think to run out of the fx loop of a tiny solid state amp and into the fx loop of a tube amp it wouldn't be fizzy at all. I believe it would have the full big brother sound. I think these tiny amps could be a massive advantage in a studio situation. now like you have said, I've never played a real friedman but I do think I have fairly well trained ears. and I do think I have an understanding for the difference in sound from a solid state vs a tube amp. Kyle if you think I'm wrong, put me in my place. I'm all about learning stuff!!! Do you think you could do a video where you put some of these small amps through a tube power section? it may be rather eye opening if it goes the way I think it would. and if im wrong about what I think may happen, I think that would be valuable information.

I think its really important to tell the viewers that the cab is pushing the sound in their own direction.Thats my experience with three different 212 cabs. In my opinion the mini boutique amps are great for playing with high saturated sounds in small rooms and their fx loops working noiseless. Curious why you couldn't get a true low gain out of it. I have the BE-OD Deluxe and the bottom channel is a crazy good Plexi type. I wonder if there are internal trim pots you can access similar to the pedal version.

Even with the gain all the way down and my Jazzmastee volume on 2, mine is still pretty dirty. But in my opinion solid state amps only sound good with medium to high gain, so I'm okay with that. I have heard the Bogner and Soldano ones have better low gain sounds.

Dave Friedman has been openly admitting that the mini is voiced to a gain channel on the big BE. If you want clean you'd have to grab a single coil guitar and roll its volume way down. It's a single channel amp and its starts in DIRTY mode.

Fantastic demo, as always! I do think these are cool little amps, but the mini-head and low-wattage format does limit their usefulness. If they made these into little 1x10 combos, I’d be all over this. As it is, I’d rather get a Katana or a Catalyst and stick a BE-OD Deluxe up front and triple the usefulness for less than the cost of one of these and a decent 1x12 cab.

Sounds badass to me. I had a runt 50 combo i liked but sold. Sounded great but I just don't dig combos much. These mini heads are adorable and for the most part, sound pretty amazing. It's a win for musicians on a budget who want to get their foot in the door with a Friedman, Diezel etc.

I’m glad you mentioned that Friedman has rolled back mid range compared to a Marshall. That doesn’t come across in the majority of reviews on RU-vid. I found that out the hard way lol. I had the small box and the JJ and was like why don’t I like these?! I preferred the Marshall mid range on my JCM 2000. Thanks Kyle once again!

No way are the mids “rolled back”. Maybe tweaked differently but Dave’s amps start with a vintage plexi Marshall DNA. Anyway, they are totally “shape able” in the mids if desired. All IMO of course.😎👍🏼

FWIW I was shooting the BEOD out with the Tri AC I already had,m and a couple of other MIAB pedals. All ran into a clean YBA1 plexi type. The BEOD is ok in a vacuum but sounds like a "marshall flavored distortion pedal", not a high gain Marshall like a Friedman or Bogner etc. Tri AC won, and not just because I already owned it. And no, it isn't really going to sound like the BE100 drive channel. It's imho overpriced, I mean you could get a Katana, VK100, or any other number of "real" amps for 3 bills. If you LOVE Friedman it's not much more expensive than the pedal version. Or, get a Quilter 45 pedal amp + your choice of dozens of FET amp modelers by Tech 21, Joyo, Wampler, AMT, etc.

Personally, I am not really a fan of these tiny solid state less expensive amps. Might as well use a good amp modeler like a Helix, Fractal or Kemper to get same or better tones and more options.

I tried one of these amps, partly due to this video. It sounded like total crap. I don't think I'm too picky about amps and I like various solid state amps; I play through one in fact. This Friedman was straight up garbage. My friend Kat at Guitar Center warned me that all the ones they had in stock were returns. I played it for half an hour even though I knew right away that is wasn't right; of course I returned it. I wouldn't trust this or the Soldano mini amp either.

The brighter amps sound the same. The darker ones the same. I haven't seen any of these demos done with a smaller cab with lower wattage speakers. Are these useful for a band setting? No. Are they good for studio? Most definitely. Good bedroom or living room amps for sure.

I just found it way too wooly. I had the presence and treble dimed, bass and mids pulled all the way off, and it still sounded like the amp was wrapped in ten wool blankets. Maybe it was a dud, but fuck I was disappointed.

I own this one and the mini Diezel and absolutely love them they're great amps especially for the price point, I managed to get both of mine at the start of the year for £99 each. But these mini amps are great and I agree, that a lot of the hate due to it opening up "exclusive brands" to people who maybe cannot afford or have the environment for the big amps, ultimately it's classic guitar snob elitist gatekeeping

Did people show this much hate for Orange when they did the micro dark and micro terror amps? How about Joyo with their line of micro amps… People like bitching about stuff, that’s the bottom line. People wake up and look for things to be mad at . Think about it. 20yrs ago, you’d pay triple the cost of one of these mini’s for a solid state amp that sounded like complete ass. People expected Dave to make a BE100 for less than a grand when he said he was coming out with a low cost amp. When they found out they weren’t going to get that, they hated on him. Because he’s kind of the face for BAD, they hate on all of the mini amps. I could never understand the hate for Dave. The man helped me on several occasions in my job, going way above and beyond for someone he’d never met face to face. Seems like, at least to me, those that can’t afford or never played his amps hate them and those that can play his amps, love them.

Interesting, you got it sounding pretty good. In all the other videos the others sound fine (and the SLO sounds great), but the Friedman has sounded literally unusable. Ola’s videos are especially awful for some reason. Idk, you made it sound good!

Ola’s been using a Neumann mic for a while that definitely imparts a character that I’ve not been a fan of… it’s most noticeable on his in the room series, where it gets basically AB’d there against a bunch of other mics.
